I wish to share... It has been twenty five years of many hidden image discoveries in Vincent Van Gogh's paintings and drawings. I removed the hummingbird feeder to a separate line. It was moving around to much and stressful for the little hummers. Lower and further away also. Oh, also. Ants were getting inside the hummingbird feeder. I installed a small ring size piece of fiberglass window screening over the inside feeder hole. The hummers have no problem sipping the nectar out.

December 22, 2014, I fill the cup to the top. I have to refill it every two days. The large woodpecker is no problem. I see it feeding at times.

The cage welded wire squares are 1-1/2'' by 1-1/2 ''. I want to repeat, large birds can not reach the sunflower seed chips in the cup because of where it is positioned. I do not fill the cup more then half. The woodpecker's tongue is not long enough to reach the seeds:) I feed the large birds and other creatures at times in an area a good distance away. We have wild turkeys visiting during the cold winter Months also. My front deck stays clean now, little birds don't make a mess.

I feed the larger birds and " other creatures " in an area about forty feet away. During the winter Months we have wild turkeys that come to visit, they like sunflower seed chips also. I put out a quality peanut butter spread often. At the small bird feeders on my deck their is no chaos , the little birds come and go. It's like their own feeding sanctuary.

Hummingbird Nectar Recipe Directions for making safe hummingbird food: Mix 1 part sugar with 4 parts water and bring to a boil to kill any bacteria or mold present. Cool and fill feeder. Extra sugar water may be stored in a refrigerator. Red dye should not be added.

Notice the feeders are in the shade. The seeds and nectar stay fresher longer. There is shade also from the nearby cedar tree. The best location would be underneath an overhang or porch away from large creatures:). So far their are three hummers feeding. No need for larger dispensers. The weather has been in the 80's. Twice a week I change the nectar and give the dispensers a good cleaning. I clean and replenish the sunflower seed cups weekly also. Filled halfway in a weeks time the seed cups are is just about empty.

The plastic cup is 4-1/16'' diameter by 3-3/16'' high. I'm going to try a 5'' diameter by 3'' high. Gives the birds a little more room to get around inside the cup. The bird cage enclosure is 9 - 1/2'' diameter by 8'' high. The aluminum piece that the cup is screwed to is 10'' long 1-1/2'' wide 1/8'' thickness.

I was told by a man in Oregon, that If the nectar is too cold when you take it out of the refrigerator it could " freeze the hummingbird's brain " momentarily . It causes them to hang upside down. Should let the nectar warm up a few minutes or so before placing the feeder outside.

I feed big birds and other creatures separately, treats. Mother Natures does the rest.

My dad used to fish along this jetty back in the late '50's to mid '60s. Our Summer house was in walking distance on Long Beach Lane. Those were the days.....
