How were you able to get a ride from the ground floor?! When I came (in 2017), only G was unlocked, so I had to go up to level 1 using the Gen2 and get a ride that way.

Not hydraulic, 2 speed AC, machine room door is beside the entrance on the top floor, those express short stroke buttons had the option of fitting a pin to lock them, mostly to use as excess load indicators in the COP but many were used as a PI

You don't often see the 5400EU's in NZ. The Plaza in Palmy is one of the only places in NZ to have 5400EU's even if they have these 3rd party indicators

Heh; never seen those buttons before lol! The typeface is very different to many similar buttons that I’ve seen before (*cough cough* Embassy Theatre), but considering the similarities between Dewhurst and Everbright, I can’t be sure if there’s any direct correlation or not… You can tell this used to be a very old building that got refurbished, and they’ve managed to preserve some of the original characteristics of the old elevators! This is also arguably the nicest Quest hotel in the city - from the lift design to the hallways, it’s almost like you’re in some 5-star JW Marriott or something lol!

That’s odd - you can hear brake releases & clunks from upstairs, akin to MRLs, but there’s clearly a machine room… Certainly gotta be an early example of a 300 P, though it would be interesting to know what the motor configuration is in there. Also, it’s very hard to tell because of the dim lighting inside (and the fact that this video’s max resolution is capped out at 360p for some reason), but those replaced inside buttons look like… *OTIS BR36A?!*

Ah; they were still in the middle of being done up when you came! Dunno why they bothered with the “Out of Service” sign in front of the rightmost car - pretty sure that’s been decommissioned for years, and it wasn’t even brought back to life when this most recent upgrade was fully completed!

Less than impressed by their choice of indicator here (especially as this used to be a Grand Mercure), but the yellow Dewhurst is lovely!

The chime & the indicator on 3 is completely dead!

You can see from the old panel just how high they probably mounted the old call buttons.... No wonder this needed an upgrade; it’s hardly accessibility-compliant!

…You mean to tell me the door was just left wide open when you visited?.... Lucky sod. Nice elevator all-round, even if just a bit slow (it is hydro, after all), and with a pretty decent view on the top floor too!
