Awesome Magna Flow Muffler VS Cheap Muffler

There is a saying that goes like this: I'm not rich enough to buy cheap junk. or another one that goes like this: do it right, do it once. When it comes to car parts it's best to spend a bit more and use quality parts. one of my costumers/friends recently bought his new project car that had a cheap muffler with bent piping, he asked me to install a nice muffler for him, he was happy with the re...

Didn't have time to clean it cause you just got it, but you've had enough time to paint the rear calipers? 😂😂
You gotta set your priorities straight mate 😉😂😂😂 No but what I meant was that on that day I didn't get time to clean it haha, still no excuse, should have been cleaned up.
HT paint as well, same colour as my TJ Sports.
I love me some 159. However, if you're gonna mention the smaller engines being unreliable, why not mention what the issues are. Any statement without argument can be dismissed without counter-argument.
What happened to the proper front vrx bumper?
How is holding up? How many miles/kms and what engine problems have you faced? Thank you
Nice 159 mate. Have you had any issues with the 2.4 diesel? And what are you averaging for fuel economy?
Looks great. i have a 2010 1750 Tbi Ti in black, got it in September 2022, your car will have the stronger F40 gearbox, my car has the weak M32 box, i have stick movement in 1st and 5th gears so a rebuild will be needed, hoping to do this myself without pulling the box out, apart from that the car is great, it has been re-mapped to 240bhp so goes really well, recently fitted Quadrofoglio wheels to it which look amazing.
I have the same spec one as yours I think (except with the 18" horseshoe alloys) and I love it... I have it in Rubino red (slightly darker)
It's cleaner under the bonnet.
this car has aged the best. it looks like it came out yesterday
I had have this car as TBI 200 CV, best car which i have ever
Turbo Benzina is the best engine on this model! Great cars honestly 😎
Love that car bella .I have the same car in the garage in Australia.
I'm in Asutralia too :)
Which model you have? (My apologies for the late reply 😊🙏🏻)
How do you find getting parts in Oz?
Do you still own it? Im looking to buy one, they got dirty cheep right now, found one 159 2.4 JTDM 20v Distinctive with 250k on the clock for 2.4k € .. should i go for it? I think over the time they will only go up with price since they are disappearing slowly..
My humble apologies for the late reply!😊🙏🏻 Yes I still have it. Here is what you need to look for, DPFs condition, EGR, if you buy a manual the clutch and DMS, the harmonic balancer, etc etc etc, I'd say you'll have less headache with a petrol variant even thou diesel engines are more reliable, they are hamstrung by emissions regulation.
just bought the same in black and i love it. 🙌
Good on you 👍, just make sure you put correct oil in it, once a week do a 30min highway driving to clean up the DPF. And see how EGR and those flaps are doing!!
@@mechanickitten ye im doin a 2h trip every 1-2 weeks so i think im golden haha
Amazing car. I prefer the wagon more but this platform ia just beautifull
Most beautiful wagon ever made
It's the sheild man, Bugatti uses a toilet seat.
Lol yes, same as ford Edsel 🤣💀
I've being dreaming for an Alfa 159 for 10 years and I've decided that it's time to buy one. Right now, I'm just waiting for a bright red 159 1.9 JTDM SW to appear and I'll buy it. I don't want any other color, only the bright red, in my opinion, it's the best color, I call it "the 4 door Ferrari"
They do one in off white and that is trully specatualr even more so if you get the red interior in it
In good nick for the age I have a 2002 rallyart vrx and goes verry well, very underrated cars
I have the 08 sportwagon because I need the rear space I've got to tell you what a fun car to drive I've had muscle cars super cars etc. I'm laughing at the torque the handling is amazing at high speeds. I accidently bought mine only looking at stationwagons. 1owner 140 kilometers absolutely pristine for 2800 euro. It wasn't until a few days later I realized what I bought being an American living in italy. This thing is a monster
Best looking production car ever. They could relaunch this platform and it wouldnt even need changing in its design it was so ahead of everything else for the time like al AR'S
Got my SW TI couple of months ago, it really is superb. As Jeremy Clarson said in his 2006 review, "The steering is more informative than the internet".

I looked at this model in 2008 , it was advertised as manual but was auto. Bought a mint 380 in 2012. No regrets.
They are astonishing cars, 380 is arguably a step forward compared to Magna, I own a 380 as well, amazing beast, wish they made it RWD!
@@mechanickitten I dont miss RWD. Wish it was 100kg lighter & had a 6 speed manual. But I'm happy .
Exhaust goes "MEEOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW" !!
Can i ask what is the fuel economy mate? Super good video btw really helpful :)
Haven't measured it yet but I believe I get around 7 to 8L per 100KMs Thank you very much for your supportive comment also
@@mechanickitten thats pretty good for a 2.4 engine, even though my 2009 1.4tdci fiesta has an average of 5L😂. You're welcome!
@@em22beats28 WoooW that's great man honestly, 5L is literally sniffing the fuel to get by and those little Ford's are quite zippy around town
İ have the Sportwagon 159 2.4 jtdm. Amazing car
Watching this video I was thinking 'dumb arse doesn't know he can open the boot by pressing the badge!' :)
The biggest weakness of the 2.4 jtdm is the antipollution system = DPF, EGR SWIRLFLAP. Sort this out and you get great power , good mileage and no DPF limp mode check engine issues!i have my 2.4 jtdm since 2013 and running on 129 000 + km.mine is a q tronic and this helps a lot
I’ve loved these cars since they were released. It’s stunning on every angle, what’s the mpg like

Oh Ciao my friend ❣️😊😊🙌🏻🙌🏻 I was in itally last year, which part of the awesome itally are you from??? You live in England??
I just bought an 03 diamante vrx any advice? Haven't been able to find any one else with one
Hi First of all Congratulations on your purchase (•‿•) 1. These cars are BULLET PROOF except for two things, Rocker cover gasket leak which although harmless can make a mess, and the Wave Spring failure inside the transmission, the latter can be harmful as a small piece of the spring can travel through the transmission pass through the filter get into the pump and brake the pump gears, but given the fact that your tranny is a four speed, it's highly unlikely. 2. To make sure the tranny works well, just change the fluid (if it's brown or black which means it's dirty) with either Mitsubishi genuine fluid or Castrol tranny fluid or which ever brand that's known to be good in United States, but generally speaking Mitsubishi fluids are cheap as they are. For engine oil just use any 10W40 or 15W40 or even 10W50 they all work. 3. If you wanna upgrade your car and make it faster or handle better I'd suggest these options, for handling use Low or Super Low front and just Low rear coil springs (here in Australia we have four main brands King, Dobinson's, Pedders and Lovels) but generally speaking any lowered spring will be better than stock, I wouldn't use Coilovers on these cars as you won't take it on the track. And change the shocks and bump stops too (specially at the front), Monroe, Koni and Sachs are great but Gabriel isn't bad as a cheaper option, if your car has low mileage and the shocks are OK, you can get away with just changing the springs for now. 4. Incredibly Important upgrade is the Front Brakes as it is a must on these cars imo, from the factory they came with single piston calipers and 276mm rotors, NOW this is the Smart part about these cars, get a set of Mitsubishi Gen 9 Galant front Callipers/Rotors/Lines/Bolts/Pads it's a Direct fit to Diamante front hub as long as you have wheels that are 16 inch or larger. BENEFITS of Galant brake setup: it has massive 300mm rotors and twin Piston Calipers and much bigger pads, you will be surprised as how much more effective your braking performance will become. 5. Perfoamance upgrades: here sky is the limit but lets say we are on a budget, First and foremost INSTALL a Transmission Cooler (after fluid change and if the tranny is good, cooler is kind of a preventive measure), Upgrade your exhaust system to 2.5 inch from stock 2.25, you can go to 2.75 or even 3 inches if you wish but won't make any extra power (you may need to flash the ecu after this so the car knows what's going on), DON'T install cheap junk pod air filters or cold air intake on an NA car it kills power. Instead install the upgraded K&N air filter made specifically for these although power gain will microscopic. Stock Muffler and Catconverter are very restrictive so opt for a high flow cat and a sports muffler. BEST Upgrade: 6G75 3.8 engine from Gen 9 Galant, this is the maximum bang for your buck upgrade, get a 6G75 engine, strip it to only the Block, Heads, Rocker covers, Swap everything else with what ever that was bolted to you stock Diamante 6G74 including the oil sump and pickup, bolt the engine up, turn the key, ENJOY (✷‿✷) PS: I have Comprehensive Videos on the steps above specially the engine swap which I will be posting soon. Good luck
@@mechanickitten Why not upgrade to some coilovers bro? My friend just upgraded his AWD Magna with some Race spec D2 coilovers & his lap times improved by roughly 3sec.
Hey I have the same car but having problems getting a place to service it. Do you have any recommendations? I live in Maribyrnong Victoria Australia.
Hi Victor What type of service your car needs?
@@mechanickitten thanks for getting back to me. I was hoping a general service but also check up and advice what kind of other services the car needs.
@@chiefouko for general service I'm happy to help :) our cars use 5W40 full synthetic, I used Penrith in mine and had good results, some suggest Selenia to be the best but frankly any good brand of oil should work just fine as long as it's the right type and grade, Ryco oil filter is fine too. For gearbox oil I used full Synthetic Penrith gear oil. I do service these cars for other people too.
@@chiefouko oh for automatic transmission fluid, I'd strongly suggest genuine Alfa Romeo fluid, their auto trans are sensitive to after market fluids (that's what I've heard)
did you remove the intake to clean it? you will have a great surprise. also egr delete is a most on this engine like no other!
Actually and surprisingly NO, thanks heaps for the suggestion 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I have heard of the EGR delete, is that something that can be done DIY you reckon?
@@mechanickitten hello mate, its quite easy to delete the egr. It took me about an hour or so. If you remove the two bolts holding the coolant tank on it makes things easier, you dont have to disconnect the tank it just means you can move it out of the way. You can either get a blanking plate but i think you might need a remap or you can get an engine light, the other option is to get a blanking plate with a couple of small holes in it, this apparently works without needing the map.
I have a black 2004 Diamante VR-X & am having trouble finding any info on it. Would love to pick your brain.
Yes definately, you are located in US yes??
@@mechanickitten yeah - us. Got it a few years back. Runs great. Bought it with 80k miles. Just cant seem to find out anything about this car. Have never seen one before!
@@mechanickitten mine has the same engine. Everything under the hood the the same. But mine is a FOUR speed automatic with the manual option.
@@nickwyatt5504 there are plenty of these cars in Australia, they were locally manufactured here in Adelaide and for Australian car industry they were very futuristic
@@nickwyatt5504 yes I believe yours has the F4A42 Transmission, good unit, the only issue all these transmission had was a component called the wave spring, sometimes specially when the fluid didn't get changed on time this spring would brake and a small piece of it would brake off, feel adventures, begin traveling throughout the transmission, work its way up the oil filter, get into the pump and brake the pump gears leading to total loss of drive, it also would go damaging the clutches, planetary set up etc etc, the solution to this is to replace that spring with an upgraded component called the wave ring, it's 3mm thick and will never break down. This fault fixed in the latest Galant which here in Aus it's called 380, the tranny in that car is Bullet Proof, I've yet to see one with a bad tranny.
Wanna see more content on the car!
Many thanks for your interest, I will definately post heaps of videos on this monster, issue I have is that there is too much video to edit LOL but I will post more 😊😊😊
Absolutely brilliant car man, I love it. Australia’s most underrated cars as you said. I have a TJ Magna with a 6g75 in it, and a stock KL Verada, I love them both. Just something that I noticed on your car though, the instrument cluster is from a J series Verada which means you won’t have the oil pressure & battery warning lights (in the J series those lights are in the centre of the dash, where your clock is) because it’s fitted to an L series car. I have the same issue with my L series car, it has J series cluster like yours (which I prefer). Do you know if there’s a way to add those warning lights to the centre like the J series cars but in an L series car? I know the upper dash wiring loom is different so thats the main issue. Sorry in advance for the complicated question
Hi my apologies for the very late reply, I'm new to You Tube and yet to learn more 😊 it's great to get to know fellow Magna Verada enthusiasts, I have 2 VRX Magnas and one costume KW Verada which I love As to your question, your absolutely right, I shall investigate this and get back to you, you can use KL/KW Verada cluster thou, I believe they are the same.
Mechanic Kitten that’s ok, yes there are many enthusiasts of the Magna/Verada. Yes definitely KL/KW are the same, or of course you could go TL/TW Magna cluster as well. You have a rare sunroof too, enjoy your new car!
How did you configure the the duel exhaust system and love it
Oh, I installed HM Headers (be mindful that my car is All Wheel Drive which is totally different to Front Wheel Drive variant in exhaust system) then from HM Headers used a 2.5 inch pipe to high flow cat then to a 70cm 2.5 inch hot dog and then to a 2.5 inch Y pipe, from Y pipe I used two 2.5 inch pipes (I configured, measured, cut and welded all by myself, it's just a matter of looking at it and feeling if it right or not, I used 0.8mm mild steel mig welding wire with argon gas) the hardest part is to fit the passenger side muffler, in the case of Maserati the mufflers were wide so I had to fabricate costume brackets and weld them onto the muffler and had to cut and fabricate the tips too cause as you can see it sits at an angle, it will be a lot easier and cheaper if you use MagnaFlow mufflers cause they are smaller, their way I'll be posting an entire episode on this job 😊
@@mechanickitten coolies have fun working on it
And Would like to see it in prison one day
That is super low for a stock suspension.
But surprisingly it never bottoms out, tyres never rub against the fenders, I purchased later model 2009 TI Suspension and installed it myself, I'll post that video later on, earlier models like mine were too high. The only issue with this setup is that the front bumper will be too low. Bare in mind that the 2.0 petrol TI springs and 2.4 diesel Tis are different in diameter, so if you use 2.4 Ti suspension it will sit higher
Too short in the video
Thanks for the feedback, your actually right, I'm at a learning stage so decided to make shorter videos for now, but I'll make more advanced content in the future, can't wait to see your work too :)
You still have the car

Awesome car; Very nice buy. Enjoy.
You make the good choise (:
Thanks 😊 stay away from the 2.2
Very good condition bro🤩, you going to upgrade it?
Thanks 😊 at some point a 3.8L 6G75 Conversion might be in order
Mechanic Kitten If you apply the Doctor John's camshafts & upgrade to 98 octane on the standard ECU which some Magna's came with from the factory, you'll get about 210kw at the flywheel without any roadworthy or depreciation issues. It's pretty much a factory upgrade on the 6G74 motor, Mitsi-Bits & SKR in SA has the stuff; contact them to get it. From their, just add a tyre sealant & inflator kit to reduce weight by about 30kg, might need to upgrade to some performance tyre's too just on the front 2 tyre's. This will give you the ultimate factory Magna. You can do this on the 6G75 motor which will reduce weight & give you alot more power, but it's not worth as much with the 6G75 motor bear in mind.
Mechanic Kitten If you like Mitsubishi Magna's/Diamante's/Verada's, definitely check out the Ralliart Magna bro. It was the fastest of them all & definitely has the most advanced factory sound system, nicest looking & the most comfortable seat's. Mitsubishi couldn't put it out their, but alot of them were making over 210kw NA instead of 180kw. But yeah, Mitsubishi didn't specify it because the 210kw build's weren't emission compliant. But they can do 13.5sec down the 1/4 mile in factory trim, I saw a Dyno readout for one & it was making 220kw & 402nm at the flywheel while weighing 1420kg. It's definitely on the 5 2001 pre-production model's, but it's not certain how many of them exist. But you can still do the upgrade with the 180kw version's. But not all Ralliart Magna's are the same bear in mind. Autospeed did a 1000km comparison test of one against the Subaru WRX STI & it killed it in a straight line while still being more fuel economical according to them.
Congratulations. I have a 2010 159 1759 TBI Ti. Red of course. Isn't is just a thing of beauty. Apart from a slight electrical power leak it's been very reliable in the 6 years I've owned it. By the way it's not a car, it's an Alfa Romeo.
