Swingless TAS in 51:50 - Spider-Man 2
Rerecords: 13776 (and yes it's damageless)
Swing count: 0 (obviously)
So, swingless - it's interesting. The overall skill ceiling is lower than it is with swinging, BUT the swingless tricks are much more difficult. It took a shorter amount of time to make this TAS than the any% for that reason. Rather than constantly looking for the optimal thing to swing on, you're just kind of, moving along the wall.
In typical Nate fashion, there are some mistakes in this TAS that cost probably around 10 seconds in total.
In chapter 3, there is some movement that could be improved just before reaching the date with Harry and MJ.
In chapter 7, I roll in the bugle, which probably loses a second (I did this because it was the only way I could get the bathroom spawn to work and didn't want to redo it; I wish I would have). Also in chapter 7, in the third prisoner round against Beck, one of the convicts gets glitched and doesn't enter the pit properly. At the end of the round, I yank him out and then bring him back in. This might not even lose any time (since I'm waiting for the other convicts to land in), but it looks sloppy regardless.
Although, I do use a new strategy for rounding up prisoners that saves a lot of time, since it prevents Beck from collecting anyone at all.
In chapter 8, I was only able to get the sniper to shoot the truck once, as opposed to twice in the any% TAS. This loses probably about a second.
In chapter 9, at about 25 minutes in flat, I go straight up on the pole swing. I probably didn't need to, losing a second or two.
In chapter 15, my method of defeating final Doc Ock was about 2 seconds slower than the any%.
There are some other bits of movement here and there that could probably be improved, too. But overall, I'm pretty happy with this TAS - saving a whopping 16 minutes over the current RTA record, and even beating the record that does use swings.
Though, there's one major problem you probably didn't notice. The game crashed. In chapter 15, the game crashes on the final hit of Doc Ock. The end cutscene just... doesn't play. Ever. I have absolutely no idea why this happened, and I couldn't reverse it without redoing a giant chunk of the TAS. So instead, I just spliced the end cutscene in. This means it probably won't be eligible to be posted to the TASVideos channel, so enjoy the Natetheman223 exclusive video.

Y'know, I've never actually seen this game completed deathless - let alone on the hardest difficulty. I'll admit it - I played this on Yuzu, a switch emulator... BUT, I consider it accurate enough that this experience isn't far off from what the game actually plays like (in fact, it might even be better on emulator). But oh my god, this is awful. The game can hardly handle 30 fps, and the input lag makes the game a chore if you're playing in a serious manner. Certain mixups become unreactable b...

40 thousand years of evolution and we barely even tapped the vastness of swingless speedrun potential.
This is more impressive than most runs because of the strength to not get distracted or hit while booba
This is one of the best, most classic games out there, and one which I will forever love and hold in a very-special place in my heart-I’m not saying this never happens anymore, but this comes from an era where games relied on a good story, interesting characters and environments, and making unique gameplay and imbibing the experience with personality and class, all with that early-2,000’s casual-flair and willingness to experiment and have fun with games. Not to mention, back then, sure, there were games with gore and cursing and inappropriateness every five seconds, but it wasn’t standard: for people who wanted it, it was out there, but there was a culture of decency and tradition tempered with enough adult-humor and casual-suggestion to still make it fun and never-a-dull-moment, whether subtly or overtly. It feels like, these days, games usually just rely on processing power, big explosions, and repeating objectives and randomization: this was the TLC-era of gaming, I truly believe, and I feel it will be remembered as the golden-age (at least, it will be by me). 😊🎉

Great run. Some really close moments, one in the museum where you did ground punches on the juggernaut while the other was charging had me gasping. Nice knife use too.
I heard the charge sound effect as I went in for the ground punches and assumed it was over, somehow he just bumped the wall before he hit me

You could also call this a "webless" any% TAS; once again, well done. Also, about that game-ending crash: Is that a Dolphin-specific one, which happened before, or simply the game itself thinking you didn't do something right?
Webless wouldn't work, as there's a bunch of things you do that still use webs (webzip, web ball, web yank, etc). Strangely, the crash isn't dolphin specific - I've completed the game multiple times normally on this version of dolphin, with no problems. It was just by pure chance or something I accidentally did that broke the end cutscene, and I still don't know what.
When those gen Zs upload videos of them claiming that they've "mastered" webswinging in Insomniac's Spider-Man 2, they should get their faces slammed with 8 extra large deep dish pizzas and then watch this video. This is the REAL mastered webswinging.
