What Feats should you use in the 2024 PHB?
The Dungeons and Dragons 2024 Players Handbook has been out for a week or so now - I've done a lot of reading and talked to a lot of my players. What Feats do I think are too good to heavily reconsider not taking? Check it out. I break it down into Origin Feats, General Feats and Epic Boons in this weeks video.

How to be a Dungeon Master | Tip & Tricks!
Musician is a cool feat, but it could have been way less tailored towards bards. Reflavouring is fine and all, but it still gives You like 3 instrument proficiencies that You may not want to be part of Your character. You can also pretend like You don’t have them, but it kind of ends up being a feelsbad thing. If it gave You a choice between persuasion proficiency and the instruments it would’ve been way better. It becomes even worse in the context of playing without custom backgrounds where its one of Your only 2 background choices for a classic paladin, but I would rather not play without custom ones.
The new Alert has already been making an impact in my games. It’s awesome. Technically it’s not as powerful as the old version, but I like that it scales over time now and the swap feature is great for teamwork.
RAW the new lucky should not allow you to spend it after seeing the result of your die roll you should have to use the point before you roll.
True, but Musician can. Maybe that’s why it’s rated higher. Lucky is worse now, but still pretty good.
@@DrenosNDragons rogues get to use it as a nice easy way to get advantage to enable sneak attack.
@@chrisramsay8795 Agreed. Rogues should be able to get sneak attack off every turn. But in the, hopefully rare, times they can’t, Lucky is a great insurance policy.

I appreciate it!!!
Eaaily the best videos I've seen on the new rules. Very well thought out, and your communication style is so clear. Great work.
I appreciate the kind words, Thanks for the watch!
Make sure to check out the photo post on my channel for two stat blocks from the book!
Cool review! Would have loved to see a specific example of a stat block or item so I can understand what you're referencing more clearly, and I can decide if I want to do more research
Thanks for the watch! Ask and you shall receive! Check out the latest photo post on my TH-cam page for two photo examples!
Can't say I agree with you about contested checks, to me they're literally the simplest thing in the rules. You both roll a d20, add a number, whoever is higher wins, incredibly simple lol. Great discussion on the changes overall 👍🏻
I realize that it’s just anecdotal evidence, but I’ve only had one player at my table in the last year Remember how to do a contested check. Thank you for the watch though my friend! I love a discussion where two people can disagree and still be civil 💙
Love the robe lol. Love this channel so far, keep up the good work. Looking forward to new videos!

This is incredible content youre making! You deserve far more attention friend!
Appreciate that! We will get there, this adventure started at level 1 🎉
Yes Healing word is best to wait. Crowd control can be critical
Web is one of my favorite crowd control spells right now. also sickening radiance
@@TheDungeonMastersTome I like hypnotic pattern
@@RIVERSRPGChannel solid spell and great support spell as well
I like what you said about being able to have damage and support options no matter what your “role” is. It’s all about teamwork, I don’t really see players as “support characters” the important thing is as a team having all your bases covered. Each character should have something they’re best at but should bring multiple things to the party. But as you eluded to already, don’t make healing your main thing.
If you make healing your main thing, it should be RP based. Healing as a main thing in combat will nearly always end in disappointment.
In the 2024 rules they made most of the healing spells more effective. I think they were trying to change healing only really effective on downed players, but it’s still the most effective way to heal. Although the new Bloodied condition is applied when you’re at half health. On its own there are no effects from it, but maybe when the new monster manual comes out there will be monster specific effects on bloodied targets. That could incentivize healing beyond just pick up a downed ally.
So excited for the monster manual. It comes out during my honeymoon

Are you looking forward to project Sigil? Why or Why not?
Am signed up for Beta and I'm looking forward to it. Because it seems like an interesting alternative based on some aspects of BG3, and I see the potential in it.
Its got me rethinking buying a resin 3d printer for minis - ill still probably buy one, but its got me thinking nonetheless

Bidet, this looks amazing, I wants to taste the precious Sandkhegs hide. We cant get it in the UK, so we have to just imagine through clips like these. Subbed, liked and comment for the algorithm. ♥
Appreciate you. I’m really sad you guys can’t get it over there in the UK.
That is genuinely terrifying. Because it saltwater, there’s no way for it to count is a poison so detect poison doesn’t work nor do any other detecting spells or canstrips.
I have a great detect poison for salt water. Its called taste buds.
@@lewiswood1693 sure. But unless the people in the city *know* what salt water is, they don’t know why it’s poisoned.
People wouldn't willingly drink salt water though. So while it is technically poisoned, it wont unalive anyone - until of course, they dehydrate.
that's why i started to hate pathfinder. They took "Fighter", a simple class and made it a headache. getting new feats basically every level sucks, especially because in for the longest time searching through them was a nightmare.
It really can be a lot!
Personally I like pathfinder a bit better because it makes playing weird and wacky ideas easier
I’d be super curious to hear about some of those ideas and see if I couldn’t make a D&D version of it. Join our discord community- I have a few here who absolutely love weird and wacky
While the books may say optional, I've never seen a DM who didn't do feats
Neither have I tbh! I have seen certain feats restricted though!
I haven’t played Pathfinder but it sounds a lot closer to D&D3.5 than 5e.
If i am remembering correctly i think that is around the time pathfinder came out? I might be wrong
Good tips. Great quality, except for the part with your player. Still good video though.
hahaha nice tryyyy he did fine :D
Good video
Glad you enjoyed
I really put my simulacrums to work this time. What is your favorite game day prep tip?
Best use of rope of climbing...one end tied to your carriage and point it down a long road and go night night
That is genius!
The new DnD playtests have changed this somewhat. Now you always get a feat, and increasing your ability scores has become a repeatable feat.
A little bit! I wish I had the new PHB. Just a few more weeks.
....isn't this functionally the same? The choice before was ability score or a feat and the choice now is ability score (via repeatable feat) or a different feat. am I missing something here?
@@DarkSonicSpear The difference is that feats are no longer an optional rule that the DM could choose to ignore. Now they are the default.
Alchemy Jug oil is usually for the vinegar to make salad dressing. Dm's choice if it burns. May be useful if confronted with bardic "word salad".
You eat the salad and your DM calls for a constitution saving throw!
Going to 5e making a character, give 5 secs. PF/3.5; is, hold on I need to cook (lvl pending), oh, what what books are allowed/banned? Atm, I'm rewriting a booking to stack on top of pathfinder, and homebrew/house rules. So, it's like PF1.5+Undaunted
great way to look at it
Ya that’s why I still play 3.5 and like it more than 5e
thats awesome!
Yeah, saving our druid like that with dimension door became one of my sorcerers signature moves
Love this!
I like the new surprise rule. Some DMs automatically grant initiative to monsters (for some reason) now that shouldn’t happen
good point
great vid, thx. A clear view of the core rules helps more than anything else rn
you are welcome!
Then everyone suffocates
nahhh! its magical smoke.
Plus if you buy pathfinder, you don't have to support wizards and hasbro. So that's a plus
Everyone is entitled the their opinion!
Ah i see your mistake thats the amulet of vigor.
Vigor? never heard of her
Cool item
indeed!
Recently made the jump from 5e to pf2e and am having a ton of fun with it. It helps that all kf the rules are available for free online and their remaster has made buying physical copies really easy as well
pf2e has a lot going for it! they really did a good job at taking the dnd system and making it feel unique enough to be difference but not so different that it isn't easy to transition into
How're you going about the character creation since the transitioning?
@@UzimaOyin my group primarily used d&d beyond for their characters so they made the jump straight to path builder and have been enjoying it.
@@jonathanbarker831 mmm that's great. So what theme do yiy enjoy most when creating your minis?
@@UzimaOyin I'm not super artistic so I have primarily been using pathfinder pawns after we made the switch lol!
Or just use everything online, which is free and can be put on a google doc
Sure - if you want to. But many people would rather have a drag and drop experience like using D&DB or Roll20.
@@TheDungeonMastersTome Many people would also rather not have to hundreds of dollars to play using content they want, it’s why playing online has become so popular
@@SoulofFinality While I don’t advocate for piracy, At the end of the day - as long as we all have fun and roll some dice, that’s all that matters.
Last I checked the adventure path subscription doesn't deliver pdfs to your door, they mail you a physical copy of the adventure.
ah yeah, I just say pdf as a catch all for any type of physical document that isn't a hard copy book. But you are right.
@@TheDungeonMastersTome PDFs are digital files, they're the opposite of a physical document.
