How to climb sketchy slabs from 1983 (Top 5 slab mistakes)
มุมมอง 40K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Thankyou for watching! Insta: @chrishallrocks
Well done, I know it's probably solid but in videos Scottish rock always looks so damp and fragile
@@mcclunky3093 thanks! definitely a lot of wet loose rock here but aye, this one is lovely and solid :)
Stretchy pants +10 agility
I guess he survived his free solo project. That's good to see.
Haha aye, life just got in the way of making videos sadly, moved away to Skye 🤙
First step is don’t wear those annoying pants. My gawd.
Sorry, didn't mean to make you feel inadequate, size doesn't matter don't worry buddy x
Any suggestions on taking lead falls on slab? Ie. techniques to come off the rock above your protection to help you minimize the possibility of cheese grading down the face?
Sure thing! lean backwards, Run backwards and pray ;) don't push yourself away unless there's a nasty ledge you need to avoid 🤙oh and wear a helmet!!
@@christopherdavidhall I'm 100% with you on praying and wearing a helmet. Not sure I'm tracking as far as leaning backwards. Seems like a good way to tip over and to land on the back of your head , no? Maybe there isn't a safe way to fall above your protection on a slab other than wearing a motor cycle suit. There is a place near when I live that is great slab climbing but has some really long run outs (8-9m). People climb it all the time and just "don't fall."
How do you lead fall on slab?
Always wear a helmet, look down, jump out if you're gonna hit a ledge, bend legs for impact and enjoy the ride 🤙
A really useful video. Thanks for posting. I hope you do more. According to UKC this is a serious place to climb..particularly the slabs having no protection. Your tip No2: is that related to the technique that it's better to step up on a smaller hold in linewith your body rather than a larger more tempting one far to the side?
Cheers Man! I'm actually taking a break from climbing atm to focus on other projects (not done much other than climb for yearsss), but I'm getting back to it soon! And aye it's an incredible place! Projecting on toprope is the norm here prior to most ascents 😁👌 More so, whatever foothold you use, have conviction in it and weight it with commitment, no re-adjusting, no bobbing the heel 👌 far out footholds are fine so long as you've got the tech to drop and rock onto it, then the legs to stand up ☺️ hope this helps
There is no way this video was shot in 83. Tapes just were not that good. As for the slab, yeah...good pointers until you are on lead. Then it is much sketchier!
Haha aye, I was trying to play the algorithm and piggy back off Magnus mitbo with that title 😅 I reckon it worked too yaknow, this has a fuckton of views for a first video! ❤️ Aye, this is just helping out with the movement, the balls are up to you!
That "Live Laugh Love" at the end had me cracking 😆
Hahaha cheers for watching to the end bro!! 😁😁
I have just finished 2 days of practicing goat feet thanks to this vid. We went to Fairy Cave Quarry yesterday and Avon Gorge today, both days set up a top-rope and then practiced drilling our shoe rubber down hard on little patches of friction. It feels amazing to crack this skill. Thank you!
Wow amazing!!! That's so amazing to hear!!Really appreciate your comment big time!!! 😁😁
so this is freshed-up idiot standup?
It’s The leggings for me !!!!!!! Love it ! 🌷
Thanks!!!! 😁😁
Nice leggings man! Just kidding, they're horrible
Well this was a rollercoaster 😅
This is so useful ! And that explains why I'm struggling with slabs. I'm saving this to my climbing playlist.
im late to this but i think its a great video! my only suggestion is, is that its mostly about footwork and yet we barely see your feet! im going to watch everything else you have now! great stuff!
slablove :D
i love this!
I want to leave a kind comment, but I can't it's slab:)
Sick slab stuff. But please use audio back ground cancelation.
Cheers man! I do not know what that is 😅
@@christopherdavidhall google how to remove background static from audio. Loads of tutorials for it. But it's not important. Just improved production quality.
Nice! Thanks, for me slab takes time to get used to. Kinda makes me feel uneasy at times 😅
Number 4 is an especially solid tip! Nice
which crag is this?!?
Armathwaite! 😁👌
Spends so much time talking about his feet, but you can't see them. They spend most of the film off the bottom of the screen
Yeah, sorry about that! Basically once you place a foot don't wiggle it about or Bob you heal up and down. Use that initial foot placement and commit to it 😁hope that helps ☺️ appreciate you for commenting ❤️👌
Its my first video so I'm still learning 😅
@@christopherdavidhall No prob's. It wasn't my intention to sound harsh, my apologies
Since on slabs it is all about feet, it would be nice if cameraman did not cut your feet all the time... Cant really see how to place tjem
Yeah, sorry about that! Basically once you place a foot don't wiggle it about or Bob you heal up and down. Use that initial foot placement and commit to it 😁hope that helps ☺️👌
Wow mate, for a first TH-cam video this is ace! Editing and presentation will come overtime. Subbed and can't wait for more content from you :D
Thankyou so much! Means a lot!! 😁
Love your discription lol!! You tell it the way it is. A spade is a spade. A refreshing change from all the other climbing videos ( which are all about numbers and bouldering,,,). Keep it up.
Nice video, but its a pitty that your feet are out of the frame most of the time when you actually talk about how important it is to use them properly. So I cannot see what that actually looks like.
Yeah, sorry about that! Basically once you place a foot don't wiggle it about or Bob you heal up and down. Use that initial foot placement and commit to it 😁hope that helps ☺️👌
Most important rule: Be sure to prance about in flaming gay lycra tights. All hard slab climbers swear by them. 😉
loved this vid!
Great video mate, love to see people getting out there in the Lake District. I’ll pass you on to the Outside Your Zone boys who are based there, they’re all about the adventure. Cheers
Cheers man!! 😁😁👌
Also I'd like to add the importance of reading. Read the small variations in the angle and texture of the rock, tiny pockets and small features. With time you'll start seeing the holds in slab =)
If you like giant slabs, come to Rio th-cam.com/video/GwtbMct4RAQ/w-d-xo.html
Good work, I like videos like this !
Thanks! Great advices !!
Solid video dude! I thought I was alone enjoying climbing slab, haha.
Cheers man!! Nah, we're a dying breed but we're out there 😁👌
Really doubting if it is number four, then finally saying number four and holding up 3 fingers is the best thing in this video to be honest
Hahaha I was hoping no-one would notice that 😬
@@christopherdavidhall Hahaha, still loved the video!
Where can I buy those pants!
Funkyfitness.co.uk. CHRISROCKS20 for a discount 😁👌
Yea, you are not getting me on that wall, overhang is where it's at. If I wanted to hit rock every time I fell, I would be a boulderer.
🐔🐔🐔😂
This was hilarious. Looking forward to more stuff like this! You have a great way of teaching and keeping things entertaining
Thanks so much!!! So glad you like it!!!
Kudos for tights also from 1983👍
Haha aye, I wouldn't be seen in anything else!!! 😁
Great video!! Most of TH-cam climbing videos are about how to climb steep things so nice to see one that appreciates a slab. I always find committing to smears on slabs hard so maybe a video on that. Always hard to go from hardcore edging where the foot holds are obvious to slab smearing where everything is a foot hold.
Thankyou so much!!! 😁 I'm sure that can be arranged! Cheers for the suggestion!!
you forgot nr.6: dont even do slabs
You aren't welcome here Stefan!!! 😠😅
Where is this filmed? The rock looks like Staffordshire grit, but I don't recognise the background.
It's armathawaite sandstone! Highly recommend it if you like a friction slab!
awesome video!
Thankyou!!!
Nice!
Thanks 😊
This is great! Thanks for the guidance.
🔥🔥🔥
❤️
Slabs'n'Tights for life mate!
Yesss! I shoulda included tights as a tip! Damn!
@@christopherdavidhall What brand are them there tights?
Nice one great inspiration to get on more slab
Cheers man!! Really appreciate you for commenting!! Do it! 😁👌
Great video, love slabs. What is the route at the end? Are you intending to lead it?
Thanks!!! 😁 It's called "lempet leap" (E7)! It's unprotected so I'm currently working up to go for the Solo 👌
