Building same any advice?
I just did this and was very happy with results. but after a few jobs I poked a tiny hole in my bag, leading me to Jerry rig in a 1/4 flare into the cap and hooking my AC vacuum pump to it. the bags take it, actually used the same bag around fifteen times so far
Nice work!
Nice Scout! Very cool that you are making it your own and doing the work yourself. Keep those IHC’s on the road!
Sorry if this is a novice question. I’ve never 3D printed anything. But could you use one of the carbon fiber or glass fiber reinforced filaments and print one without having to fiberglass over everything?
I’d love to know where you got that file
Scout 2
Please decode my scout, I'm lost
Hi! I just built my first foil, wood core with carbon fiber. My leading edges were just butted together like yours and eventually started to split apart. I ended up folding a 4" wide piece of carbon fiber over it with epoxy and peel ply. Didnt have to bag it. Then sanded the edges smooth after. You could use some lighter weight fiber glass. When I make my next foil I am going to wrap the edges for sure.
Now that you've had it a while...how much are you enjoying foiling? Thinking of getting one - not sure if I'll get board or not...
Soooo many videos online of how to do this properly... Surprised you got this wrong.
Sick video dude! Very interesting!
Where you vacuum plug is add a extra bit of cloth so it minamize dents😅
yooo I used to make surfboards professional for cannibal surf, have a over lap, instead of layer going off the surface, only do the top wrap the overlap to the bottom sand it then vac bag the bottom and do the same thing, creates more structure instead of cutting an area that gets high pressure the load goes to the other side not just the cut end, also if it flexes it could delay due to the cut surface, you did a great job and this comment is my opinion im not an engineer, j speaking fro my experience and what I've seen . cheers
Hi! Nice work! Would you mind sharing the 3D model of this bigger front wing?
The foil is 95% plastic 5% glass, needs to be the other way around... Try again! with more layers of glass, use some unidirectional fibre layers and plan your layup based on the stressed expected. Consider laying up fibres inside the printed parts to reduce sanding and finishing work.
And add a lot of carbon. Unidirectional high weight is not that expensive
Plez plez plez stay away from. SCAMAZON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do you not buy a fuselage? I only builds wimgs. The fuse and the mast are just a huge hassle.
Its An Asian carp
Thats Wolf River Harbor. Those boats are not abandoned. They are all privately owned by the family who operate the tour boats at the opposite end of the harbor. They also own the dock and land that the boats are mored to. You had a fun adventure but you also fully documented your crime of trespassing. 😂
You need more strength in key joints. Like the mast to the plate. I would suggest using cross biased carbon fiber with the epoxy on the whole build. Make sure your epoxy is compatible with the printed plastic substrate as well.
Oh no. Was gonna try building one but after seeing your videos on it, I'm not so sure anymore lol. Thanks for sharing!
Really enjoyed watching your series here, cause I was thinking about doing a similar thing. Good to know how hard it is to get this right. Very good effort, mate!
Well done for the try. It broke at the max moment point. No surprise there. More fiberglass and maybe some carbon?
Print files for the bigger one?
hey, I have the 3d models of famous brands. my weight is 90 kg. So 1600 to 2200 cm2 foils ideal for pumping, carving etc. I want to build one.
Do you still have those files?
Hey @mavisevda do you have those files or can you lead us to them? I’m looking to make the same wing as you
Cool job, and nice work. To help make the peel ply removal easier and to get a better finish, wax the peel ply first, then wet out the fiberglass on a sheet of plastic, squeegee out the excess, then apply to the foil. This will keep you from having too much resin in the glass which makes for a better finish, lighter weight, and easier peel ply removal. Also don't put the part directly under the vacuum port of the vacuum bag to avoid raised spots. Luck!
Can you make videos of it
cool project! Thanks for sharing. May I suggest you use some type of polypropylene sheeting next to the lay-up, followed by a breather fabric (paper towels) then the vacuum bag. Release will be easier. 😎👍
Quick question. Can you use paper towels instead of breather cloth?
@@mountainbikekids2764 yes. I use them every time but you'll need a layer between it and the resin, like polypropylene plastic .
0:05 wtf... it's a clone
C'était sur ! Il te faut des renforts en carbone a l'intérieur du mât !
Inside doesn't do.much. 15-20 layers of carbon on each side.
Really nice job!
use a hair dryer or heat gun to help you with the peel-ply
Nice work! a bit of unidirectional carbon tape, and high density epoxy filler would help you out a lot with structural integrity.
Good job on making the part. The precision of crosslinking profanity when things stick, can only be achieved through experience(s).
Easy peel huh.... ? 😅
cool build, will be interesting to follow😀 couldn't open the link to the mast base, it would have been cool to try to print
I’m interested in the wing from the first one, I have two mp select minis and a whole lotta epoxy and fiberglass left over from when I built a Clearwater foils kit with the 2300 and 1500 cm^2 wings, I am looking to build a high aspect wing that would come in many pieces that would fit on my 12x12x12cm work space.
Welcome to the bitch that getting peel ply off can be!!!
Really good vidéo !
Aahh still hoping to see the next one :D :D
Damn! Keep it up! Have you thought about making it electric?
Oh man this is exciting! So much handywork for this thing. I really hope it pays off! Looking forward to see if it truly works well in the water!
Hoping to test it out this weekend! video will be up soon
is it possible to share the STL? :)
I know there there are excellent grue manufactures branches in the market. But the question is. Will that hold?
Where the heck is my 3D-printer I Ieft on the side of the road? 😆
*promosm* 😋
Cool!
Looks great! I want to try a 3d printed one next too. You might end up needing a few more layers. I built a clearwater foil kit and ended up needing like 19 layers at the joint to the mast because it kept breaking. Nice job so far though. I will follow your videos.
Agreed. The next video will be a trial run and then I’ll go from there. Currently working on the 2nd 3D printed one that will be much better!
@@stonewall_kelsey4201 right on! If you want i can email you the clearwater glass layup layer instructions. Might be useful as a starting point for the future build. Cant wait to see the test run. samholmessailing@gmail.com
Well it's holding up better than tower 7...👏💯
Bro
Saw 3d printer at the thrift store the other day. I was not fast enough, and some else snagged it. I think some people are gifted these during Christmas, and are not interested and get rid of them
