I went to this. I've even still got the neon pink wrist-band ! I spent days in various states of consciousness 😂 My mate was also DJing there. I saw Nigel Kennedy as he lives up the road from me. Good times, but there weren't all that many people there, which was a shame because there was a lot going on there. I was into the rave scene in a big way, I didnt sleep for three days! I remember when I got home being absolutely wrecked and with a urinary tract infection to boot ! 😂

The U Star captain goofed by refusing a tow when he was 8 miles offshore because his shipping company would have had to pay for it. Since then the rules have been changed to allow the coastguard to order a tow regardless of whether the captains want one or not.

No! At the conclusion of the enquiry regarding the disaster, the final verdict was that no one was to blame. It was a combination of the terrible weather and mechanical failure on the Union Star. The master of the Union Star was completely exonerated.

Transporting myself back to 1970/71. I used to go everywhere with my dad and his company every holiday going along with a hell of a lot of weekends. Anyway My dad was working on a job at Conwy, decorating inside and out the 'Liverpool Arms'. ( 50 yards away from the Smallest House in Great Britain) I used to wander round the area I was at did my own thing but always back in time for the lift home. Anyhoo...The harbour at Conwy. I was awestruck of the whole thing. These boats coming in. Just 25 yards away from where my dads company was working and I just loved it. Anyway...I wrangled myself in helping out on the dock area with the boatsand loading up vans with fish and shellfish ....I loved it.13/14 years of age....in an era where kids were able to be kids.... I got 5 shillings - 15 shillings every Saturday or Sunday from the boats I helped out with I used to cycle just under 8 miles to get there on the weekend... rain or hail.(5 bob or 15 bob)( A HUGE amount of money) in maybe 2 bob from one boat. Half a crown from another..2 bob.. from another, shilling from someone else. Couldn't give a damn. I loved it. Money wasnt a 'thing' ..Also worked at Woolworths in Colwyn Bay after school each week day which was more cash!...But anyway I digress. Going back to the docks... i loved this place, it slowly started getting slower. Less ships going out especially into the Atlantic for cod as Europe started moving in due to EU crap and regulations. I think Conwy probably died a death with seeing itself as a fishing port by around 1978 or so. ( I was still living in the area but Uni changed stuff) Just as I was probably leaving the area. I'm just giving my experience of the fishing industry. it's a droplet in the ocean as to how and what ALL the captains of boats have had to go through regarding the sleepless nights of worry...through not catching and when you do, the prices are kaput, countless days away from home one bloody wave and you are probably fecked... all the variables.. yet...who actually gives a flying **** about fishermen? Your Government doesn't A Brexit lie... Fishermen are still knackered after all the promises.
