    Back in the 80s I walked into my local hi-fi store, armed with the contents of my first ever bank loan. I walked out a couple of hours later with a complete, component based hi-fi system. Got it home, set it up and it sounded phenomenal. I was the envy of all my friends. I knew nothing about cables, bit depth, acoustics Etc. I just knew it sounded superb. About 20 years ago, I discovered the internet. Then TH-cam. Then the TH-cam hi-fi community. I was drawn in. Bitten by the bug. Bedazzled by dubious claims. Striving for audio nirvana I upgraded my $3000 integrated amp to a $9000 preamp monoblocks combo. Upgraded my $1200 DAC to a $4000 DAC. Upgraded my $5000 pair of speakers for a $12000 pair of speakers. Didn’t upgrade my cables, I’m not that gullible! Did I achieve audio nirvana? Yes. But no more so than with my previous set up. Would I do it again? No. My old set up was good enough. The trouble is, you listen to the views of 10 experts, you likely get 11 opposing opinions. So, as a consumer/end user, whose opinion do you trust. Remember there is only one person you’re trying to please when building your hi-fi system, you! So, listen to others if you wish, but don’t take their word as gospel. Trust the best tool you have, your auditory system and save yourself $thousands. Most of all, enjoy the music.

    Production choices are why we're here. Things are over produced, quantized, auto-tuned, and pitch corrected. That's my barrier and it's a huge one. We've also become obsessed with subgenre purity with an over-emphasis on chops over song composition and arrangment and playing instruments to the song and not songs being driven by instrumental prowess -- which is just boring, contrived and usually sterile. We have metal with bass drums so fast it isn't human beings playing it but we pretend it is -- which is the definition of insanity. Why???? Purity of a self delusion? Also so much modern music is done by committee and that's not the same as a band hashing something out with other musicians and artists. It's so bad you have AI generating "90's sytle" music intentionally omitting pitch correction and auto tune to sound more "authentic" to the period but it can't quite reconcile it, so it's partly toe in and toe out in terms of "modern production techniques". That is bat s**t crazy! But here's the thing. AI songs doing 90's era prompts are BETTER tonally, arrangment wise and compositionally than similar music produced today.

    Aloha Nick, I hope you don’t mind me subbing your channel today? I’ve been a big fan of Leland’s even though I’ve met him many times in person. He always has some great stories to listen to, it’s like, dang, I wish I was there myself also. Leland and Maureen are perfect examples how they are just regular people with ordinary lives, doing normal things like washing the car, taking their dogs out for walks and yes, bagging poo like anyone else that owns great pets, which are just as important as any other family member, you just do all that you can for them. I hope that I can convince you to continue making these YT videos and if you ever get the pleasure to travel to the Honolulu area, I would love to give you a grand tour of this island and not just the touristy stuff either. I understand the idea that michael is saying here, he is saying basically wake up humanity and get artistic again! But your wrong to blame people listening to the greats. Listening to the greats is awesome. Trying to rip them off is not. If chris cornell didnt have the Beatles he wouldnt have made black hole sun. Case and point. The real problem stems out to the wider culture we are in. We are so afraid to be strange and different. Everyone has opted for safer routes in fear of not succeeding and has resulted in missing the point. I say listen to the beatles and zep more than ever, and if you try rip them off, means you havnt actually listened properly ....

    Very humble man, Leland Sklar, and one GD great bassist. I first noticed him with James Taylor, a live show in Boston, maybe 1988(?). Lee was dressed to the nines in a B&W outfit with spats on his feet. At some point in the show, JT points to Lee and says to the crowd, "Does he look great or what?!". And it was true, Lee was GQ City on that night.

    I’ve been refraining from comment for over 45 minutes now but as nice a guy as Niclas seems to be, I don’t think Jesse should have been burdened with so many tube amp 101 questions. There are so many basic tube amp theory vids on line that with an hour or so of preliminary research, the questions could have been so much more to what I thought was the point of this interview. Jesse’s philosophy, process, opinions on what matters. Overall I still enjoyed it. Jesse’s one cool guy.

    Thanks to Google here is the TH-cam version of the diagonal cord relay. th-cam.com/video/wGr0_kwXaKM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ctmnx5GjXTKFxaid Which looks pretty damn similar to what he's doing. Apparently it's about just warming up your fingers so you don't have to be musical that much unless you feel like it you could alter it a little. But that's it

    • @NinkSink
      @NinkSink 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not as easy as it looks. But you'll get the hang of it. Now doing it to a metronome that's a different story at my moment in time. But I don't doubt and maybe a couple of days I will be doing just fine for at least 85% of it. Maybe 75% is more realistic.

    • @NinkSink
      @NinkSink 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm doing this on a 7-string guitar. It's not bad it's a good exercise for your fingers for sure. Just like the spider thing is and a few other calisthenics for your fingers. Kind of like calisthenics for your body. When you first try it you flop horribly. But after not a very long time you'll start to master what you were flopping at. If you've never lifted weights before and you get on a bench press, more than likely you're going to be wobbling all over the place with a 45 lb bar and barely able to keep it up. In 2 weeks you'll be lifting that 45 lb bar up and down nice and steady. If you get on gymnastics rings after lifting weights for some time you will be severely humbled. And I mean severely humbled. Just try to do simple holding yourself up on your arms like you would on a tricep press but just holding up the top. Don't mind trying to go down. Just try to hold stable and you're going to wobble all over the place. But after some weeks suddenly you'll start to be able to do that. Think of these calisthenics in that sense.
