The Hunt For Red October
As the title suggests, I was on the Hunt for red October, launching at 5 am I headed down to Cambels cove, tide was pushing in and the weather was playing ball. 2 rods, 3 packets of turtle back worms and a few jig heads, In i went.
Drifting around off the seaplane jetty, I was sounding up heaps of fish, but only the small pinkies were playing ball, that was until I headed out a bit wider, then it happened.
Take a look and see.

October Snapper
มุมมอง 23628 วันที่ผ่านมา
With all this wind around lately, the mornings seem the best chance to get out for a flick to chase the mighty snapper of port phillip bay. Down to the local for a 6am launch had me onto the fish within a few casts. sounding up a lot of arches I new I would be in for a cracker day. I managed to hook into a few fish early, then I felt that tiny thump of a bigger specimen which didnt realise he w...

What not using my rods anymore mate
still using, just not on this trip
Nice bream tbh whats your pb tho
Thanks Mate, PB is 40.5cm, caught in about 2ft of water on the fitzroy river, AFL grand final day 2023
@ nice
Well that’s 5 minutes of a waste of time! Farking carp 🙈🙈
was a great fight on light gear though LOL!
hey mate, what section of the river was this in? some people say below the weir, others say above it. I've been trying but had no luck in either yet since I moved to Vic earlier in the year. This looks like a nice section of river to fish, easy spot for kayak launch would be a good bonus. Keen as for a summer of bass and always looking for new bits of local knowledge if you're ever keen on a flick!
hey mate, I fish both sections, both produce fish, Above the weir used to be an easy launch, but Its been filled in by local council as the bank was eroding. You can still launch at the river bend historical park, its a concrete platform, fairly shallow at that spot so you could get in and out of the river with ease. The other spot below the weir is off manorvale parade, stop on the bend when you get to the soccer field (look on google maps, you will see what i mean) follow the path to the right, its a bank side launch, but its shallow and you can get into the river then into you yak pretty easy. reach out on facebook or insta and i can give you some more area's to try
Good work kid! 🤙🏼
cheers big ears LOL
Enjoyed watching that, nice one 👍
Thanks for the visit
Nice going Steve, seems they are on around the bay in close right now
yeah sure are, hanging to get back out for another sesh
Awesome snapper mate, did you end up getting the size?👏🏼👏🏼. Was this Saturday passed by any chance?
Hey mate, Yeah the smaller was 40cm on the nose and the bigger was 50cm, nah it was sunday morning
@ that’s awesome mate. Perfect eating size 👏🏼. Bloody hell. Missed it by a day! Was there on Saturday and it was very very slow going!!! Only managed one 40cm snapper and that’s it haha
Good stuff.. love your video
Thanks mate, appreciate it
Apparently they love a suspending jerkbait, I caught a monster on the weekend using a pro-tech jerk.
I have a few of those pro-tech jerk baits too, might have to give them a crack
Well done Stevo
thanks frankee
Awesome vid mate 👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks Legend 👍
You forgot to peel off the rest of the Richmond sticker..🤣🤣
need to add more to it..
Isnt that a fishermans knot? Or an improved clinch or smtn like that.
also known as a locked blood knot
Some good size Barra
there was a few, weren't as big as the ones we caught a week earlier at brannigans and walkers creek, but was good to get a few after the morning sesh of none
@@Fishingwithsteveyea you will get that big one someday
Just a note. This isn't an impact crater, it's a volcanic maar.
regardless, still a cracker place to fish
Bloody love your video mate, just subscribed. Great idea fishing whilst sitting on a deck chair or milk crate, cheaper than a boat or a $300 charter!
yep, when the fishing is as hot as the tar on the road, its a great way to fish...
Splendid fishing trip Steve, looking forward to your next one
Glad you enjoyed it

bit late now... Such a great place to fish too. this was only my 2nd trip up there, probably be my last. Only reason we come up is we don't have to pay for accommodation.
