T-Rex Racing Handguard Install - Versys X300
Here's a video of the install of a set of T-Rex Racing handguards on my Versys X300 with a little bit of a review.
I just realized that it would be a good idea to list a more in-depth video I did showing the removal of said bar end weights.

Back roads ride

Filmed this a while back, never made it public because it's not much but some footage of a ride I took and didn't think it was terribly interesting. Just a short ride through some back roads set to some music.
Versys-X 300 Bar End Weight Removal
มุมมอง 8K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I had to remove the bar end weights on my Versys-X 300 in order to install some Barkbusters guards. Found a somewhat easy way to get it done, and decided to share it.
The ORIGINAL KAWASAKI HAND GUARD has Just one suport,...don't touch the extreme of han bar!!!!!!!!
The factory handguard isn't very well supported and not very protective of the controls in a drop.
If original hand guard doesn't touch the extreme of han bar, so you must not touch it because modify the balance if han bar and it's bar for hi velocity!!!!, so dont't touch it!!
@@antoniofranco7635 I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but to have more protection for the levers, you need to swap out some parts.
hi bro, What brand are your levers?, They look very nice
I purchased them from Ebay, they required a little modification to the clutch lever to get the throw right. When you install the clutch lever, there's a section of the lever base that prevents if from laying flat, it needs to be ground down and they work perfectly: www.ebay.com/itm/303612075140
Dude....this best video ive seen on this.. you should make others... you can even wear an old T shirt!
Man, right up until now I didn't realize my shirt matched the bike!
Now make one putting them back in! LoL...For such a fun bike... why the hell wouldnt the engs design a expanding ...as you tighten..... smaller as you un screw... like normal anchors... wtf kaw!!
A quick spray with window cleaner will lube the rubber bushings for re-install, once it dries they'll be just as firm as stock again.
@@the_bishop T.Y. May 6lb 2oz baby jesus bless you for life on this video! ..
@@bwnco As always, glad it could help!
????? Well what the hell is the screw for then.... I thought you tightened it an something inside there expanded, untightened it an came out. . I was doing this an it started spinning so I stopped. So versys already have wieghts in the handle bars ? Sorry total newbie... my throttle hand vibrates a bit an was gonna add wieghts but ummmmmm hmmmm ok..
There are rubber mounted weights in the ends already, the outer screw is the attachment point for the external weights. The weights are held in via friction.
@@the_bishop Well im still have slight vibe enought to bug me.. hmmmm .. gloves.. different riser?
@@bwnco At the end of the day, it's still a high revving parallel twin. Some vibration is going to happen, especially with the engine mounted on the frame as a stressed member. What I've found helpful is to work on your grip on the handlebars; you don't need a tight grip on them at all. You might be holding on too tightly.
@@the_bishop yes read that a ton an really been focusing on that.. Thank you... its not much, but I shattered both my wrists years ago in a wreck.. maybe be more sensative.. but thank you.. Wonder how bad a DR650 single is then.. Thats what I was looking at as i love the simplicity.
@@bwnco I test rode one. It's not horrible but it *is* a big thumper. If you do much highway the vibes are maybe not worse then the 300, but they're lower frequency and more intense.
Thanks so much for making this. I didn't understand you were supposed to be put the bar ends _back_ in the throttle bar, AND align those metal 4 pieces to the notches inside. You rock! (Now if I can just figure out where the rubber space goes....)
I'm glad the video helped! Which rubber spacer? It's been a while and I'm trying to remember if there was one.
Thank you sir!
I'm glad it could help!
You are legend! Thanks for the video
I'm glad it could help you!
I like your clarity with the instructions. Question is the Verys your first bike, are you pleased with it. Thanks.
No, it's not my first bike. In fact, this is the second Versys 300 I've purchased, as I sold the first Versys I owned in a fit of insanity. I've owned 5-6 motorcycles over the years. Yes, I'm pleased with it. The bike is light, nimble easy to work on and has done everything I've asked of it.
Thank you!
Nice video, I just installed Barkbusters. Of course I also had the pleasure of removing that OEM anchor point inside the handlebars so I could install the Barkbuster hardware.
I had installed Barkbusters on my previous X300. It's almost the same with the exception of the internal weights. Thanks for watching!
Very good video.
Glad you liked it!
Oh now you post this after I spent hours cursing at Kawasaki.
Technically, I posted it two years ago, but hope it helped you out.
Can these weights be securely reattached after they have been removed? If so, would I just screw them back in?
Yes, they can. The trick is getting the main bolt out once the whole weight is removed, as it's pretty seriously fastened with red lock tite.
Thanks
Great work. There is no need to remove the internal counterweights and for vibrations issues its not recommended. I had to reinstall both of them several days after installing Barkbusters handguards, just push them further. Vibrations without them is more noticeable.
Did you have any trouble putting them back in?
Gracias por tu video
You are very welcome.
El bulon original que medida tiene ? es de 6mm o 8 mm? gracias por el video
The original bolt in the bar end weight is a 5mm. Here is a google translate version of that in spanish, pardon me if it's not entirely correct: El perno original es de 5 mm.
@@the_bishop 5 mm ? Now crashed?
@@disenofiel7695 I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. The bolt for the original bar end weights is a 5mm hex.
Thanks far better than the other vids.
Thanks!
Thank you for saving me lot of grief and cussing :) cheers
I'm glad it was of some help!
good
Nice ride. Is this the Versys?
Yes, Versus X300. Thanks for watching!
Nice work!
Thanks for this. My Versys 300 has the Kawasaki handguards (read wind breakers) and I want to swap those with my wife's bike since she only needs wind protection, and buy myself some sturdier guards. This helps a lot with the process.
Glad it helped!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Man, thanks for the info, I also have a white 2020 x300, I was trying to get the ends off to put on some givi hand guards, left side wasn't to bad, but the right side did not want to come out it was a s.o.b. finally got it, hand guards look great !
Thanks!
Just the video i was looking for, many thanks!
Glad it helped!
Did you Install the Barkbusters or keep it as it is?
I installed Barkbusters. Wanted to protect the levers.
@@the_bishop Does it come with Bar End weights as well ?
@@KetanKanetkar Yes, there are bar end weights that come with the barkbusters, and there are supplemental add-on weights you can purchase if that doesn't dampen the vibrations enough. That being said, I've been happy with the setup as-is, haven't noticed any additional vibration.
Glad to know. The reason why I asked is I only have the X300 handlebar since its a project motorcycle.
Great info. Going to install bark busters today. Whose adjustable brake and clutch levers are you using? Thanks.
Well done. Finally someone has shown how to remove the bar ends. I’m about to install hand guards & have been dreading the removal of bar ends. Thanks for sharing this technique. Subscribe ya channel.👍
Not a problem, and glad I could help!
Dodger, did you have any trouble putting them back in?
Nice, will be doing heated grips sometime before the fall. Noted.
