#452 Bike & Barge Day 4, Part 2, The Netherlands
Join me for a few Peaceful Moments on a Bike & Barge Vacation in The Netherlands.
After cruising to Willemstad we set off for the day's riding. This video covers the morning ride from Willemstad towards the day's destination of Zierikzee. We stop off for coffee in a place called Oude Tonge and the video ends at lunch time at Bruinisse. The rest of the day is in the next video.
In September 2024 I went on a Cycle Tours Bike & Barge vacation on barge Wending between Amsterdam in The Netherlands and Bruges in Belgium. The way such a vacation works is the guests eat and sleep on the barge then each morning making a packed lunch and then setting off on our bikes riding about 50km stopping for a coffee break and a lunch break. Mid to late afternoon the group would meet up with the barge which has sailed to a meeting point where we would have Happy Hour and then have dinner on board.
Along the way we stopped in Gouda, Dordrecht, Zuirikzee, Hanswwert, Antwerp and Ghent. The original route changed a little due to the weather.
The 20+ guests were looked after by a crew of four: Captain Arnaud, assistant Myrte, chef Emile and our guide Adri. All four of them were amazing and made sure everyone had a good time. On videos which end at the end of the day I will include pictures of the onboard dinner.
I highly recommend such a trip if you like gently cycling through lovely countryside. Such a vacation in The Netherlands and Belgium is especially appealing as it is mostly flat - the only problem facing the cyclist each day is the wind! But if the wind is behind you then it is great.
This was filmed in September 2024.

👍You were riding nearby my house in Reeuwijk 😊
Ha ha. If I'd known I would have waved to you 😊
I love the paintings of Frans Hals. The people on his paintings are so confident and happy with the world.
I agree - I always wanted to see some in real life and was so glad I got the opportunity to do so. Cheers :-)

where did u get ur bus from bled,, and would u remember the timings of the buses
Hello there. There is a main bus stop and buses leave with great frequency. It is a small place so you really cannot go wrong. Good luck.
@@peacefulmoments386 thanks
Very nice ❤ I live here and i hope you see much more of our architecture, philosophy, green woods, sees and with luck the alps from a higher point and we have 3 rivers more and more little tiny bridges as venedig. I'm very lucky to live here. It's not too big and not too small, you can rent a bike and can have a beautiful day with a mixture of some different activitys in different landscapes nearby. We're the oldest- or the second oldest- or the third oldest town in germany (they don't know exactly 🤔🫣). It's not really my original hometown but it's my heart-and-soul-hometown ❤ Thank you for this chilled and quiet video! Because at this time i prefer to sleep in my cozy bed and don't go out 😅
What a very nice comment! I was just passing through Augsburg but have every intention of returning and spending more time there. Thank you.
@@peacefulmoments386Do it 😊 In the summer or near the summer🎉

thank you for showing us all the runs connected to aunt glady's, really appreciated that.
Thanks. I plan to make more Silver Star videos next ski season!
@@peacefulmoments386 Youre welcome! I am looking forward to the videos!
Very peaceful
Madrid looks so cool with rain ❤☔
hey there, i love your channel, btw i have some ski run recommendations for you. These are a few runs that i couldn't find a video about. 1. black bear 2. black pine 3. larch 4. minerva 5. aabye road (really steep, be careful here) these are all black runs, but you are free to do it at your own will, thanks for your time and have a nice day
Hi there - thanks for the comment. Of the five runs you mentioned, I have only skied Black Pine because I think it gets groomed sometimes. I rarely ski black runs that have not been groomed but might well give one of the ones you mention a go next season. Cheers :-)
@@peacefulmoments386 yay thank you so much i appreciate it so much! hats off to you and best of luck in skiing!
btw i subbed! :)
@@peacefulmoments386 btw did you record black pine in a vid? i cant seem to find one...
Hi there. I don't think I've ever filmed Black Pine. This past season I had issues with GoPro batteries not working in the cold so I didn't make any ski videos....but now I have at least one I am going to make next season!
More and longer rain videos from Spain please!

And here I thought only the Italians loved tunnels. 😉
Is bon diablo harder that caliper ridge?
Good question. Caliper is longer and has a nicer ski out, but there are a couple of ski lift towers to avoid. Bon Diablo is shorter and hits the ski way pretty hard. I prefer Caliper 😊
@@peacefulmoments386 thank you
Cool. 😎
Nice Video. Not a personality show like the others. The way is the Star. Wonderful video.😊👍
Thank you very much for the kind comment.
Next time. 😎
And let's hope there is one of those for both of us.
We took the bus back to Lisbon. It was a nice way to spend the time processing the journey, looking at some of the camino as we headed back.
Agreed. Was curious seeing some of the Camino in reverse, from a bus.
🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸💪👍💚
Lucky...We did the 7:00 pilgrims mass the day we arrived, but they didn't do it. The next day after the noon mass, we went and did the walk behind the altar up to the bust of St. James. They did it at the noon mass as we could still see and smell the incense. I must say, I've been to a number of Cathedrals in France, Italy and England but I have never experienced a place that left me feeling like I was 2 steps from heaven. I can only imagine what it must have been like for a pilgrim entering and seeing it 500 years ago. The history of the Botafumeiro is really interesting. Bom Camino. 😇
Felt very lucky to see the Botafumeiro. And the cathedral in Santiago was truly amazing, bested only, to my mind, by the one in Segovia, Spain.
I'm in tears as I write this. The last day was bittersweet as I was ready to finish the journey and ready to do it all over again. Thanks for sharing your journey as I really appreciate your format. Having photos helps me remember, but watching your videos really refresh's the journey for me. Like the journey I was always anticipating your next video. 🙂
Truly, thank you so much for following along and your comments. I have enjoyed reliving my Camino through these videos and I am hoping to do another one - and to maybe see you out there. Bon Camino!
Our longest day was from Caldes de Reis to Capellania, about 26km. The interesting thing is, while walking through the woods, I was wondering if Redwood trees would grow there. Living in the Redwoods on the north coast of California, the climate and terrain are very similar. As luck would have it, we were heading to dinner and just around the corner from the hotel was a nice coastal Redwood tree. About 32 inches across and 70-80 feet tall. Put a smile on my face.
What a great memory for you. Isn't that just the kind of magical thing that happens on Camino?
@@peacefulmoments386 The other thing I forgot to mention.....Padron Peppers!!
What a pretty section. This is definitely on the route for the next time. 🙂
I recommend it - it was a real Camino highlight!
GALICIA.
GALICIA.
What a nice route. We were curious about it. Thanks for sharing. We went north from Pontevedra to Barro and Portas to Caldas de Reis. Beautiful day. The anticipation gets stronger when you get below 40 km.
Thanks. I highly recommend the Spiritual Variant. I'd love to go back and do another Camino - perhaps I could try the route you took!
Actually we want to do that route the next time, because you know it's not a matter of if, it's when. We're also planning a slower pace, doing 10 miles a day and taking more time for exploring.🙂@@peacefulmoments386
Very nice and beautiful ❤ Pakistan ❤
Thanks 😊
I loved that section, so calm and peaceful. We stayed at the Bulezen Urban Hostel just around the the corner from the church. Just as luck would have it, it was the opening ceremony for the World Triathlon Championship Finals. The plaza around the church was full of athletes from all over the world. There was music and a parade.
I agree - that was a great section. From your comment about the Triathlon I am guessing you were about a week ahead of me.
Your path was interesting as we went inland to Vigo. We stayed at the Hotel Coia de Vigo. We walked through the city and picked up the camino again at the Parque de Castrelos to Redondela.
Oh, that does sound different. I was in the albergue at the bottom of town.
❤ WHEN was this filmed? Thanks
Hi there - this was early September 2023
That was a long day for us as we started from Baiona. Stayed 2 days in Vigo to rest and do laundry. For a big city It was lovely.
Vigo did look like a nice city - glad you had a nice time there.
Thanks for memory refresh. Not sure if you stopped at the petroglyphs. Pretty amazing. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks for the comment. I think there were some of this later on...not sure if I filmed them!
3:42 lens flare or reflection? 🤔
Hi there. Probably to do with this which I added to the description: I somehow managed to crack the protective glass on my GoPro in Viano do Castelo. This is apparent on all the films I made on this trip from Viano onwards. I have since fixed the issue!
Bom Camino!!
Thanks for sharing. We were walking the Camino at the same time. Looking for the arrows was part of the journey as we missed them a couple of times due to being overwhelmed with the scenery. And yes, to say it was life changing doesn't even come close. Looking forward to the rest of your videos.
Thanks for the comment. Making these films I am reliving every day of my Camino and loving it!
interesting choice of soundtrack 🤔
I pick the music from the TH-cam library, looking for a piece about the same length as the video. So, that's how that works!
thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks for watching!
