Marshall Eagles are definitely one of the big five of the bird kingdom in ZA. We once had one fall out the sky in the Kruger up North, trying to take down my three year old nephew's teddy that was lying in rear window of the car. I just saw this incredible bird in my rear view mirror, angry face, wings spread out right across the window, crest spread, then in an instant it was gone catching a thermal straight back into the depths of the huge blue sky where it came from. No one else in the car even saw it. Never forget that face, pure predator. They mean business hey.

Wonderful stuff Richard! Love your footage, editing and music. Best of all your relaxed, understated yet heartfelt enthusiasm. Truly refreshing, just what you want to hear in a place as special as the Kruger. There is a certain je ne sais quoi about all the camps in the Kruger, I've stayed in all of them and many times with wondeful memories but Bateleur is always going to be where I would want to lay me down to die. Other than that Mopani tops my charts, the newish dam it overlooks is lovely. These are otherwise hardship camps, all or nothing happenings but I like that. Bateleur besides the odd drama of dozens of lions taking down a buffalo bull for the peace and birds. Get you birdbath sorted and you don't have to go anywhere. They should have a small camping area exclusively for small tents IMO. The Old main Rd near Mopani has also always been fantastic for me. Can spend hours watching korhaans parachuting high in the sky or big bull elephants streaming across the open grasslands, grasslands or savanna which are rare in the Kruger. My kind of country. That bit of the same near Satara is also heaven, you always see cheetha there.

You guys had a terrific time, thanks for the lovely memories, made my day .We were there for parts of December 2023 - January 2024. Very special to be in the Kruger itself, doesn't get better hey! Little tent, fantastic. We saw the biggest elephant I think in the whole park, biggest I've ever seen. I will never forget him. Marching down the middle of the road towards us just before sunset from at least a kilometer away, just kept coming getting bigger and bigger. We just sat and sat waiting till those ears came up and he tossed his mighty head around like he was going to charge, making himself as big as possible he trumpeted screaming loudly then turned off. Looked he was floating across that grass till he vanished. Heading to water I think and in a hurry. Even at a safe distance that thing was huge. Was so hot hot hot, right.

@@RichardvanHaght The whole park was green, yah. So lovely to see. All the animals so content, fat and frisky, wonderful. We saw a lot of leopard, big males who didn't seem at all shy. With all those Impala calves around they were having a ball. I definitely choose the green over the dry park any day. Was still very hot, though.

@@RichardvanHaght also forgot to mention Shingwedz, Balule and Pafuri being the fave camps! Shingwedzi I have been so incredibly lucky with phenomenal wild dog sightings as well as birding. Pafuri obviously for its birding and massive tuskers and the balule is just feels like "old times" Kruger to me. No power in camp so it is almost like wild camping with the exception of actually having restrooms and gas-powered freezers and conveniently located to Olifants for shopping, restaurants or swimming pool needs.

The Beasts by Walt Whitman (1855) I think I could turn and live with animals, they are so placid and self-contain'd; I stand and look at them long and long. They do not sweat and whine about their condition; They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins; They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God; Not one is dissatisfied-not one is demented with the mania of owning things; Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago; Not one is respectable or industrious over the whole earth.
