Nissan NV200 Van Conversion | Swivel Seats pt.2 | Driver's seat | Van life
In this video we install a swivel plate onto the driver's seat, so both seats can turn around.
To do this we had to undo some of the work we did on the passenger swivel. Here's a rough bullet list of what we did to get the swivels to work:
1. Had the handbrake moved forward and down by a friendly neighbourhood mechanic so the swivel could clear it. Took the casing off the handbrake.
2. Took seat brackets off the passenger seat and put them on driver's seat plate to raise it up (The driver's side did not have the same seat brackets)
3. Removed the small seat brackets that were attached to the driver's seat runners
4. Attached the swivel plate to the seat base
5. Attached the driver's seat to the swivel plate via the runners
6. Attached the passenger seat with swivel plate straight onto the passenger seat base (this was much easier to do without the brackets)
This was a complicated job and we messed up a few times along the way. But we muddled through and by the end we had two functioning swivel seats, which we're going to use to form part of our bed.

This week we installed two tinted windows on the passenger side of our Nissan NV200. After a minor blip (a leaky window) we had two functional water proof windows! This week we installed a swivel seat into our Nissan NV200 camper conversion. It was a trial and error process - with lots of error - but by the end we had a successful swivelling seat. I’m really happy to see the bulkhead removal, windows installation and swivelling seats… it gives me faith in doing it myself thanks 😊. It would be great to see what else you have done to the van, assuming it’s finished or closer to finished now?

    Hi, thanks for the video. Bought a similar van, but an import with electric brake. This is a good idea as gets over the problem. Professional converters seem to tell me a swivel base not available. Fitted a universal to a transit previously but no experience with nissan. Where did you get yours, how much and link please?

    This alters the design of the seat and seatbelt system. And Voids their compliance with the legal requirements. Just because it get a Warrant of fitness by a local testing station does not mean it's legal or fit to be on the road. Check with the local authorities on the compliance issues Before you do this.

    • @Fromatic
      @Fromatic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      its fine, they havent touched the seat belt system and you only turn the seat around when parked, if they get into a crash while driving its the belt and its fixings (unmodified) that take all your weight and stop you flying into the windscreen, not the seat

    • @BlueJazzBoyNZ
      @BlueJazzBoyNZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fromatic The seatbelt buckle is attached to the seat. Whose attachment to the floor has been changed. Therefore the seatbelt and seat attachment system has been altered. Maybe it's ok maybe not. . I strongly recommend that the mods get certified.

      @@BlueJazzBoyNZ yes good point with the buckle end attached to the seat, but I still think the risk is small if the swivel base is bolted in properly. Though I was surprised by the amount of cutting away at the base they seemed to have to do

    This is awesome, not being able to get the drivers seat to swivel for the extra space has been making me hold off doing an env200 conversion. Keep holding out in the hope one of the trim levels would have an electric parking brake to get rid of the problem altogether.

      Also bit cheeky of me but any chance you can go into any more detail with the handbrake modification? I know you didn't do it yourselves but did you have much trouble finding someone to do it/ did they say it was much of a headache? Also do you have to release the handbrake to rotate the seat or are you able to keep it applied? I've considered dropping it and keeping the foot brake applied while rotating, but a bit risky and asking for an accident to happen.

    Is the bulkhead reuseable after it's been removed or does it get damaged? And those bolts you cut off, are they threaded but just have rounded heads? I want to install one in a similar van and wondering if it's possible to buy the bulkhead from ebay and fit it with standard bolts from a DIY store.

  • @asdsdjfasdjxajiosdqw8791

    Is removing the bulkhead legal? I thought that was a requirement for vans.

    • @steveradcliffe4898
      @steveradcliffe4898 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure there is a definite requirement, I had a Suzuki Carry which does not have one at all. My concern here would be whether the bulkhead adds stiffness to the body. I was looking at NV200 vans but in the end bought the MPV version. I am removing the third row of seats for everyday use but may also remove the middle row for holidays.

      @vincentthevan1475 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for the suggestion! We realised this after editing the first couple of videos and have started filming horizontally so watch this space for the next videos :) We worked out that the wire is actually to do with a pressure sensor in the seat, which is connected to the seatbelt warning sign. The previous owner had disconnected it so the seatbelt alarm didn't go off when he put something heavy on the chair. The magnet is still a bit of a mystery but we'll keep you updated if we figure it out! I will add the links for everything we used in the description
