    these shots are insane! quick question with the eos 3 I’ve never used a film camera with focus points before do you use a single focus point when shooting portraits ?

    What lens did you use with the Canon? The photos are perfectly sharp. Was it the USM or the USM L ?

    You're right abt the light leaks. For a film that expensive, the 4-5 1st pics are terrible. As a pro I nearly can't use it. I love the characteristics of this film, but I'm somehow between love and hate.

    Cinestill 800 is best for night scenes where there is neon & tungsten lighting, e.g. downtown areas with a nightlife and cafes. Covering the urban landscape and people enjoying the night life give a shooter so many opportunities.

    Its probably just a difference between the metering on the EOS vs the Minolta. The meter on the Minolta isn't as sophisticated and they look like they're slightly under exposed compared to the EOS

    I like 500T more then 800T,becuse 800T more expensive and 500T can push 1 stop to ISO 1000..the grain is fine.

      They are exactly the same film, but for the removal of the antihalation backing by Cinestill. Cinestill's increase in film speed happens in the marketing department. The only factor which might make the Cinestill version look "faster" is that without the protective backing, light during exposure bounces back through the film, fogging it a bit. Otherwise, they push the same. If you do your own film processing, and can therefore remove the remjet backing yourself, neither cost nor quality would dictate using Cinestill.

    For your night shots do you use your cameras metering system or do you have an external light meter to correctly meter the shots bro? Just curious

  • @joeflores8394
    @joeflores8394 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A tip for your night shots trying to get more contrast with colored window shots. Use a light meter or light meter app to expose for the highlights specifically rather than the shadows or midtones, then go up a stop or two to retain a bit more detail overall.

  • @jamesonnorth

    I'm betting the Minolta was underexposing a bit. All my Minoltas underexpose by about a half stop or so. You'll get quite a bit of grain on underexposed color film.

    • @cool2rule2
      @cool2rule2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I shoot on an x-700 and an SRT-201 and i’ve had the same issue with grain caused by (probable) underexposure. For color neg film, i think the fix is just to overexpose every shot. The film performs well when it’s overexposed, but it looks shitty underexposed.

    Tbh Kodak Vision 3 is stupid cheap to buy and bulk roll! Depending on Cinestiil for film and over paying is crazy imo. Ive been bulk rolling since 2018. Also 500t @800 gets better colors

    • @ethankoster4626
      @ethankoster4626 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip! I definitely need to try shooting and developing some Vision3. I totally agree Cinestill is unreliable and expensive. That's why the last couple times I've just stocked up, but I think it's time to get some 500t

    • @randallstewart175
      @randallstewart175 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kodak sells it for nearly $300 in 400 foot rolls, which you then have to adapt to in some way to get 100 foot rolls for a bulk loader of 35mm cartridges. There is a minor business of people re-rolling the 400 ' into 100' rolls, but they up the price to the point where they take much of the savings. On the other hand, that is still half of the price of the same film from Cinestill, and you don't have to put up with the damage Cinestill inflicts in its striping and repackage process.

    Your shots are great. The ones back home came out better than the ones in Seattle in my opinion. I love CineStill, but the halation is an eye sore for me. So I've just been using the Vision3 film since I'm developing at home and don't have to worry about destroying a lab's equipment.

    • @ethankoster4626

    Very cool pictures!, question: do you play with the colors in post? Or just scan and upload? I'm asking because i have the X700 as well but I don't get that smooth colors.

    • @ethankoster4626
      @ethankoster4626 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I tend to do a little post processing in Lightroom, but not very much. Just white balance, contrast, cropping and basic exposure adjustments. It all just depends on the shot. I usually keep it very minimal. Hope that helps!
