Tsar Nicholas II Coronation Cup - The Cup of Sorrows

Tsar Nicholas II Coronation Cup - The Cup of Sorrows
My grandfather said they would put chapstick on the threads so the cap didn't make so much noise. It makes sense but I've never tried it. He has been known to pull someones leg. If you try it let me know.
The tunnels are so small that even an average Vietnamese today couldn’t use them. Everyone back then was growth stunted from war.
Neat video! You should do a head to head comparison with comparable modern binoculars and test clarity, field of view, etc.
I’m 36 years old and have been going to the coliseum since 88. I used to have my diapers changed in the older orange seats. Stadium looked light years better before mt Davis
The Oakland Coliseum was built by a non-profit organization led by Nahas which GAVE it to the county and city after paying off its mortgage back during the early 1960s at a cost of $25 million. Apparently NEITHER landlord spend a cent maintaining or sustaining the Coliseum, leaving repairs up to the Raiders and A's without a reduction in rent. They did build Mount Davis, a third of a new stadium to LURE the Raiders back from LA, but alas, never refurbished the old grandstand in SIXTY years. No wonder when their leases EXPIRED, both teams LEFT. When I attended a Rangers road game there I felt like I was entering a PRISON, not a ballpark. Litter and trash everywhere smelling like a sewer. Apparently major league teams are not PRECIOUS in Oakland...
Definitely not the best stadium that I have been to and it’s depressing being there looking back.
I think the Sacramento River Cats, whose stadium the A's are taking over as main tenants, are planning use the Oakland Coliseum at least for some games.
I have one or two of these ( found on UK military training grounds ! ) .... these days you can fit an LED replacement bulb for a HUGE improvement on battery life ! , but I would recommend a single Lithium D battery ( 3.7 Volts ) with a dummy D battery for the unused space ... why ? .... Alkaline batteries LEAK , OMG , yes they do ! wrecking your torch or other equipment .... Lithium batteries never leak , and most are rechargeable .. ( tried - n - tested ) ..... DAVE™🛑
As a K98 shooter I can asure you it sounds nothing even close to 2:06 a Mauser !
I used to put my Fork and spoon in a sock to keep it from rattling I never carried the knife since I already carried my buck knife with me.
I got issued one of these in 2020 at infantry osut, so bad ass
However, I don't remember actually having the opportunity to cook. We eat straight from the can. Coffee was a luxury, because you had the opportunity to heat the water!
I used this type mess kit, in Nam, 1970. But the food actually came from C rations (B units) 12 meals to a big box. I liked them.
A snapple cap is pretty close. Is that a thing?
Are they loud enough to hear through gunfire and nearby bombing during the invasion?
i own one. it uses good ol' heavy duty d size, since that was the best when this was first designed. the bulbs are far less expensive than any size maglight bulb. i can read the dates on cans of food without being blinded, since the color of the light is softer. these lights were designed to be dafety lights for working around where an electrical spark of any amount would make things go boom, so you might think on that for wjen the ground shakes things loose.or in my area, hurricanes. the supplied filters work at night, or low light signaling or to diffuse the beam of light ...signaling ...using your hand for the morse code dots and dashes. i had one as a boy scout on tje '60's,, when i was in sooutheast asia in the '70's, and have one now. it works, its not expensive, it just might be a good kabonker, maybe.
Good video! The utensils were wrapped in a cloth or a pair of socks & put in the kit...no noise...the cup was put in the cover & the canteen on top of that...canteens were normally kept as full as possible because sloshing canteen water violated noise discipline...the cover was the most worn looking item of a soldier's equipment due to its constant use, including wetting down to keep the water cooler....as many soldiers carried 2, sometimes the canteen covers were used to carry extra ammo, especially if a tough firefight was expected....
Mess kits have their own pouch or bag. It has individual pockets for the utensils so it won't make any noise. Also the canteen cup does not make any noise when placed inside the canteen pouch.
These aren’t made of glass. They’re porcelain enamel over metal which was considered very mod at the time.
Learn something every day 👍
Crickets were all fun and games until the Germans realized their gun bolts make the same sound
As for keeping utensils quite it's common sense. A old sock or garment WRAPPED up. Problem solved. I AM sure plenty MARINES in the Pacific had those problems taken under control.👍Bon. Appetite 🥗🥓
Also the same makers name .I wouldn't be without it HIKING or CAMPING it's my companion mess kit forever.👍👍👍
Bingo! I've got that same canteen cup. And I live in Scotland. I use this canteen
The German K98 rifle made a sound very close to this device when you cycled the bolt on the rifle.
I am here after watching Goliath Series.
How do you know if it’s BEF or not? British made exact same and I found out mines BEF.
See the video again, you will find that the stamp on the blade has the name of an austrian city.
Oil the leather so it doesn’t break
I had clickers as a kid
Just got a pair in the mail. Good stuff.
Actually it was the other way around. It was 2 clicks first. Response was 1
Under the battery open there is a thing that you can unscrew at the bottom the held the lenses. Nice video!
So the toy cricket clicker was the olden-day version of a fidget spinner. Lol
I have one of the cups. They are made of metal so many survived. Ebay has some on sale for around $300 .It is not true that Nicolas didn't care what had happened. The French gov't went to huge expense to put on a Coronation Ball the next night - even bringing items from Versailles. Nicolas didn't want to go after the tragedy, but was persuaded to make a brief appearance in an anti-chamber - not at the ball itself. He didn't want to offend the French. He also gave financial support to the families of the victims.
John Wayne would hand them out to the paratroopers in The Longest day. The nexus behind the cricket was to identify German soldiers, as many would dress like U.S. soldiers.
Not true that Nicholas II didn’t care about the victims of the Khodynka Tragedy!! Please read the true objective story in the book ~ The Romanov Royal Martyrs: What Silence Could Not Conceal.
Nuns used to use these as a scold in schools😂
Gotta put some grease on that leather
“The solution was to create something that could easily help soldiers identify each other” Well it was also to create something that German soldiers would just assume was part of the sounds of the night and nothing to be concerned about
Great little camera! A bit fiddly to set up, but if you want to shoot it all you need to do is spool (part of) a roll of 35mm to some 127 backing paper. Since 127 was larger than 135, you will get the sprocket holes in the image, though these can be cropped out in post. A fun way to revive old cameras!
Got ours today.
Thank you!
Watch The Longest Day there are lots of these used in the film
I got one for five bucks it came with a extra bulb and all the lenses
The 101st specifically asked for the cricket because there are no crickets in Normandy. So there’s no confusion if they heard it. The 82nd used a different form of communication.
What different form please?
to stop the rattling they use to put the kfs rapped up in a sock ,good vid tho good effort
Well it's not about they ditched the mess kit because of noise and weight. It's because they been told by their commander that the fight will be less then a day or few hour's. But they found out the hard way and had to fight without ways to get food nor drinks during their battle. Same mistakes when they say to the soldier not to take their rations as well. So yeah it's not because of noise or weight
Wow. I had just pulled this out a week ago just to photograph it. You're lucky to have the stylus. Your war sequence was perfect. It gave my copy a lot more significance. I have the leather case. Which likes to leave little fibers all around. Don't forget to try to clean it out as much as you can before shooting. I shot closeups of it with my phone. A great subject.
100th Subcriber!
Where did you get the pasgt helmet?
Are all sun dust wins goggles the same size?
