Jim Babjak's solo is superb. Not a single superfluous note.
Dark vibe in this cut...or is it just me?
That Bass is f'king awesome!!!
They were grunge, way before grunge was grunge.
AT LEAST 15 YEARS BUT STILL GOING ON SO STRONG... LONG LIVE THE SMITHEREENS....
Incredibly under rated band. Long Live The Smithereens !
About A Girl brought me here
Wasn't this produced by Don Dixon?
Love that Bass
Rip pat great man
Excellent
Carteret and Scotch Plains well represented!
I think this song is great !and I’m an old dude, left over from the Sex Pistols days.
If your not listening in 2024 your never were a Smithereens fan!🙆♂️
Yes it'd the one my grandpa used to play this for me when I was 5 or 6 I finally found it
One of the best bass lines ever.
The Smithereens are one of my all time favorite bands. Looking back, their vibe was “we’re old enough to be your uncles. But our band kicks ass.”
About a girl Nirvana?🤔

I'll post this here too for reasons about to be obvious: I remember buying the cassette tape (google it) of their album "Especially For You" because of hearing "Blood and Roses" on MTV (when MTV played music videos). I did that from time to time, buy albums for hearing just 1 song to check the band out. Bands like Ultravox, Icehouse, later Enuff-Z'nuff, Kix, and many others. When my older brother saw the Smithereens' album I bought, he was so mad. See, my brother played at the same time in a semi-popular band at many of the same venues in NJ and NYC as them... The Smithereens made it mainstream, my brother's band didn't, unless you count performing on the Uncle Floyd show? He had heard them play most of their "Especially For You" album well before it hit MTV, or so he claimed. The 80s was such a weird time of exciting emergence and extreme anger for many people, and we expressed it in many ways. I guess every generation has their 1 decade like that?!
This is an unbelievable band a true classic
bass player needs to lay off the adderal, or take some?
This was always such a cool song
Classic
A real bass line, holy shit
Top 5 of the 80s: 1. The Cure 2. The Smiths 3. The Sisters of Mercy 4. The Mission 5:The Smithereens
This song takes me back to a summer night in the very early 90’s…they were playing a show at a riverside amphitheater on a Friday night and my boyfriend and I lived across the river-we had not known they were playing that night or we’d have gone to the show. But the sound carried across the water and it was like we were there anyway-we listened to this song from the front yard. We ended up married, have raised a family and are now grandparents. Hearing this took me right back- makes it seem like time passed so quickly! I’m sorry to hear of Pat’s passing on…I’m having a real “appreciate the time you have” moment here.
wore my tape out in my truck to this song. that was 34 years ago i think
Seems like yesterday ----
Nirvana - About a girl
This is just great rock n roll w a dark shadow of mystery!!! I love it!!!!!🎸🎸🎸
Love this song
You can see why Kurt & Nirvana were influenced by this band. Love this track & great lyrics 🎶
Great band & influence of Kurt Cobain's. Poignant lyrics 🎶
Saw them in concert back in 1986 in Long Beach, CA. Small place. Went out the next day and bought the cassette.
This really sounds like REM's "Welcome To The Occupation"!!
So many memories of life less complicated.
I'm listening right now! 👍
Just rediscovering them. Sad they are not still around. 😞
I had this one installed in the jukebox in my old bar (WWIII Tap). This is still bruisin'!
LOVE
Who's the dude with the sunglasses? He's not in the band.
