Trackday at Barber Motorsports Park while testing the Alpinestars Supertech R10

This is just a motorcycle track day at Barber. I decided to ride in the intermediate group being that I hadn't ridden since my crash last year October. I just wanted to make sure the bike and myself were fit for the track and I did not want to slow down the faster advance riders. I am also riding with my new helmet. The Alpinestars Supertech R10. This is not a review of the helmet, I will do an...

My only tip to you that helped me improve quickly is cross reference your onboard with the fast dude's and print out 2 track maps, one for yours and one for theirs. In EVERY corner on the maps, make notes of the gearing, mph, braking zones, refence points, and the transition points from brakes to gas. It will help you more seeing it visually in 2D, side by side, to see just how much time can be made!
Dude, that is probably some of the best advice I’ve heard. Now I gotta find some who faster, but not too much faster than me.
@@smithshotracing your mind is your weapon, the more prepared the better! It allows you to see the mistakes real time and correct them
My best time on my 09 zx6r with -1/+2 and a slip on (not tuned) was 11.2 @126.
that's good to know, it gives me a benchmark.. were you on the 600 or 636?
@@smithshotracing 600
If i use an m in the Shoei what should use in the alpinestar?
You might be between sizes. a M might fit you real snug, great for track use but annoying for the street. a L may fit loose, but not too lose were its unsafe... BUT id say to try them both on.
Bro more track days. Get a good coach. Apex apex apex. Track day before every race. Get off gas when you see god then brake till he goes away it isn’t easy being fast just have to keep at it.
"Get off gas when you see god then brake till he goes away" yo, that's the funniest, but truthful shit ive ever heard.. lol
@@smithshotracing that’s what I do when I push for time at tracks. I’ll be racing next year maybe I’ll see you out there.
Recognize you in a movie
did you enjoy the movie?
Yessir 💯
Bro LOVE the video, this just energized me! Motivating me to stay the course and do what I need to do to get back into riding! Keep the videos coming!
real talk.. all your comments on here and Facebook are always positive, they are appreciated..
fire
!!!
Great attitude, great footage and great soundtrack. When I started racing yellow plate I remember loving the ride but hating how far I was from the fast guys. Years later I'm the fast guy at the club, done Motoamerica, and looking back I can't believe how much faster I got to the front than I expected. Your positive attitude will get you there. Showing up, spending the money to be prepared to race in rain conditions and going for it, thats baller. Keep going and sending it. Getting faster is all about the right wrist, open the gas! And keep making videos like this!
I appreciate the words of encouragement... thanks..
Let me be very clear; any race that you don't crash is a win. I didn't think you were bad in getting on the throttle but it seemed your RPM was low; do you know how to downshift while rev-matching? I remember on my first trackday the instructors were going around patiently teaching new riders how to rev-match as more than half did not know how to do so.
rev matching is still a skill that im not good at, AT ALL lol...
@@smithshotracing I would put rev-matching as your top priority right now. You're probably accelerating out of the turns at around 5 to 6 thousand RPM's, and that kills your drive all the way to the next turn. I personally do "lazy" rev-matching whereby I blip the throttle but let the clutch out a bit slower than most people. This allows me to move the throttle without affecting brake pressure and also allows slightly imprecise rev-matching. Unless you get a quick-shifter up and down, you will have to learn how to rev-match. These inline fours just do not start making power until 8000+ rpms
I Was looking forward to the whole race. I thought you were having some good run but it ended soon. You were riding the bike more in control and i think its good. Be consistent and take it easy with those guys who are fast. Remember they make mistakes too. 4 seconds is not bad. That time is workable to focus on your skills. Evertime you are out there is good too. Keep trying. Your riding position is more relaxed and thats good as you get faster. Your body needs too give you good information where the bike is going and where you need to be. Remember most people can even do all that running around by thereself. Your doing alot. Your discipline will be there in the later times. 🎉😅🎉❤
not gonna lie, I was hesitant about putting out this video, I really thought it was boring. when I look back at the race footage, its just me, riding, alone.. I was like "who really wants to see that?" but thank you for the kind words..
@@smithshotracing Your Welcome!
Damn, straight stealing my playlist. ATLiens still slaps!
Glad you liked it... mixing things up a bit.
STT north coach/MotoA rider here .. get with a fast coach and seek instruction, theres no shame .. i often do 1 on 1 work at STT track days and a proper racer/coach will help you overcome those plateaus
You're up north with Tony Blackall, the homie.. But yeah, I will take your advice, trying to get faster on my own hasn't gone as planned..
Was he not...downshifting? Like rev-matching during a downshift? I thought that was his major problem, and the other rider who came over to him to recommend he get on the gas earlier could simply not have heard his bike due to the low rpm.
Keep you head up!
For sure man... but it is frustrating.
@@smithshotracing I absolutely understand, but it also displays what it takes to get better. It lends a level of respect to your efforts to keep going and get better, but also for sport as well!
@@charleswinter1335 I appreciate the kind words.
I think your being a little hard on yourself, you can only race who shows up. With the weather conditions at hand I feel it's great you stayed and did what you could. Where I come from that would be a nice boost in championship points. PS don't stop making content with your racing.
Thanks for the kind words... and I won't stop making content. but it's hard to put out a good quantity of good quality stuff. I don't want to flood you guys with nonsense. so what stuff would you like to see?
@@smithshotracing l enjoy racing, I find value in all your context. Your passion powers the channel. This morning I find myself debating the purchase of an airbag. Which brand, who to buy from. Do trackside vendors offer discounts on race days if you buy from them?
Love the helmet. ❤

No Quiet Storm?! Maybe too obvious
Too much talking in the beginning of the song..
Go down to Jennings in the off season and work on everything. Make sure you have a silencer insert ( Don’t wanna meet Barb) lol
Silencer at a racing is ridiculous
@@GenghisKhan311 wow! Just hush and keep comments to yourself if you don’t know about Jennings
ive thought about it, I heard you can rent the track out for a day for a reasonable price.
@@smithshotracing yeah you can. But yeah go and you can work on everything. Checks their website out for dates.
There was a few races called "senior super stock" (dunno why they had "super" in there) that was only open to riders above the age of 40 on completely stock bikes. It was extremely popular with full grids, but it was the oddest feeling watching all forty bikes make less sound than a vacuum cleaner at full throttle. It was shockingly quiet even from 30 yards away. And those guys were only a few seconds off super stock.
The music selection is on point with this video
glad you enjoyed it.. trying to mix it up a bit.
When's the last time you asked an instructor for help at a track day? I get it that I hate relying on others and certainly try to do things on my own, but getting some on-track instruction before the race is certainly better than getting feedback after the flag. No disrespect to Deshawn.
None taken
the last time?? like, never lol... but I might have to, I feel ive hit a plateau with my growth.
@@smithshotracingsounds like it’s time for some ycrs schooling or 1 on 1 with some of the professional/privateer guys. That may help you get in form again
I always enjoy your videos. Also nice cameo and 3rd place in the movie!
thank you, glad you enjoy them... as for my cameo, I had to let him win lol
@@smithshotracingapparently you didn’t use the “all gas or all brake” technique along with locking up the rear on every corner! 😂
@@lifeatredline1783 🤣 I need to try that in my actual races.. might get better results.
Good riding, you should come out to the west coast and work with some dudes out here (Ken hill, etc.). Might help break the routine and reframe your mind
I do plan to take a trip out west, I really want to do a track day at Laguna.. but it's a LONG drive from GA.
Always enjoy your videos. You're a star Sir, seen you on the podium in a movie.
Glad you enjoy there vids.. but I had to let him win. it was his movie after all 🤣
I wonder why my comment was deleted?
I have no clue.. what was your original comment?
That soundtrack . Great video
Just changing things up a little, glad you liked it. And thank you.
Which race club?
WERA..
Ayeee nice music selection

btw the Grand Theft Auto touches for the lid swap was genius💯✌🏻‼️🤣

Great Grass Roots Review Brother your eval is spot on love what you do🤘🏿🤘🏻😎
thank you very much...
Coming from my first helmet an ICON Airflite peacekeeper ($250) to an Airform ($250) to a SHOEI RF-1400 ($800) i decided to get the pre order the Alpinestars Supertech R10 ($1100) and let me tell you i have ZERO regrets. The R10 is by far superior to the other 3 in every way. 150% recommend especially if you suffer from a high body temp, i sweat in the winter so a well vented helmet is a must.
im glad we feel the same.. it is indeed the best helmet in the categories that matter... my #1 choice..
Dude, did I just see you standing on the podium in the One Fast Move Amazon movie? Yeah, I'm sure it was you!
indeed it was... and that was my first and last podium ever lol
Did you enjoy the movie?
@@smithshotracingit has some flaws. 😅. Clearly I need to ride less and drink more to improve my riding 😂
Just saw you on the podium in that Amazon Movie.
that was my first and last podium lol
Great content. Looking for a replacement and I was wondering what your thoughts are on naked bike- mt09. What helmet do you think would work the best. Hear a lot of good things about the rf1400. Thanks
Thanks man.. As for the shoes RF1400, its a great helmet, price isn't bad at all.. I would totally get one to ride with a MT09.. Great fit, go for it..
Nice man
thanks homie..
What are some problems you ran into?
none.. you are gonna have to trim the inside if the air duct a bit, but that took like 30 seconds with a Dremel or die grinder.. other than that, perfect fit..
Good ole number 18
18 is trying..
Love it. Great job. Have you ever done a video of your in-helmet camera?
I have not as of yet, Trevor might try to ban that too, so I gotta keep it quite lol
That's great thinking, keep working. Soon everyone will be at the drag strip to work on launching
you're right... that means I gotta stop giving away my secrets lol
@@smithshotracing I like your work, just keep working on going faster. Just because you give out what you are doing doesn't mean everyone is putting the work in. Keep digging, keep working, keep tryin. Maybe I will meet you at the track one day.
Amazing content right here. I appreciate the effort
Thank you and I appreciate you for watching and commenting..
Keep at it. Staying on the race line would help a lot. Some laps better than others. Track days all year helps too.
Thanks for the kind words man..
this is a completely subjective review. A one person’s opinion is completely worthless. 10. Different people will give you 10 different opinions. If you take 10,000 people, then you will get a better average opinion.
not really..I agree that comfort is subjective. but vertical vision, which I measured, weight, accessories, safety ratings, price and demonstrating the visor change.. those are not subjective..
15:06 happened to me before on my ninja, suspension bottoming or close to it. Pretty scary, especially cuz it feels as if the bike and brakes should have much more to give. Got a front cartridge kit for mine have to install, that should prevent this or at least manage. Stiffer in the front should help you as well, I don't know if your suspension is adjustable but if it is try it for this track at least.
that shit sucked.. and what's worse, when you take that route, you don't know what to do because you never did it before.. then the turn to get back on the track... its a totally new turn and you have no clue how to take it..
Great reviews bro!! My neph just got the X15 and loving it.... Unfortunately my budget limits me to my HJC i10s for now 😂😂😂
thanks for watching... but if you are looking for premium on a budget, id go with the RPHA 1N. its real close to the others just a lot cheaper..
Need me to get one of these 👍🏾
They make transport so much easier and way less worry while driving.
I have the RPHA1 for over a year now. It’s a nice helmet but it cuts off my vertical vision a bit. I want a helmet that doesn’t cut my vision at all.
@@hellfire08 in terms of vertical opening, the Alpinstars is the widest top to bottom.
Amazing painting on the Arai helmet! Can I buy one like that?? PS what do you think about the BELL Racestar DLX helmet? It's a pity he wasn't in this comparison.
I would have loved to, but then I would have had to buy another helmet.. I aint rich yet. as for getting a DBZ paint job, contact SL Graphics on instagram.
