ADHD Projects vs Systems
If you’re struggling with the buildup of something, you have two topics to strategize about.
1. How you’re gonna solve the problem of the buildup
2. What system you’re gonna develop so that the buildup doesn’t happen again

    I struggle with the "pills don't teach skills" I have ADD and am not on medication right now. I can only imagine how much better my attention might be if i were on medication. But if i were to argue to someone that is not at a healthy level of functionality in life (overly co-dependant, overly forgetful, preforming poorly at whatever tasks are required of one's life demands) that this issue is a lack of tasks/skills management... oh man that just brings me back to school days when my parents and teachers just said "keep a planner" "follow checklists" "remember to focus". Talk about putting the cart before the horse. I CANT FOCUS OR REMEMBER TO FOCUS. Haha. When my parents put me on medication... That when I was able to learn how to manage skills and tasks. Remember that have checklists in place. "Focus" on focusing. I am well aware this was the #3 on your list and you aren't advocating that people get off of medicine. But I have heard that argument before and felt like i needed to vent a little. Pills put people in the position to figure out what is "normalcy" in order to build those skills to help them in their life continuing to use medicine or like me, get off of medicine (although sometimes I think to myself it might do me good haha).

    I think this is really good to ask! As someone who was diagnosed 25 years go, my internalized abilism, still pretty much until the last 2 years expected myself to do what other people can do. (Which isn't helpful. You can't work towards fixing or making changes to accomodate something, if you don't acknowledge it). For me I have been working with a counselor who has adhd herself. My time blindness is bad. And executive functioning is not great. So I have had to develop a few hacks to helpme with those over the years. Including a planner for me to keep track of long term goals, shedule, appointments, as well as the daily spaces to put my routine stuff there. Besides that, I am realizing that no one thing alone "fixes" or helps anything. It just helps some. Medicine helps with some things. Lists and charts to help me to get into a routine, and not get lost, help some. But also diet is important. (Wish it wasn't), having to remember to drink water, and my #1 non-negotiable is take my pills when I first wake up or I will forget, which makes everything harder. I have been off my routines that I have slowly built up to, the last month because I was renewing a certification and studying for that. Now I have to start over. At least I know what to do to get there, and accept this is what I have to do. But besides those things, (which for me, is a lot!!), and trying to talk to my boss for getting accommodations at work, I haven't thought of anything else? So when you asked that, I was just thinking, what other accomodations can you make for yourself for this, besides pills, rest, and charts? 🤔 I wonder if there is a whole other aspect of life, that I could do to help myself? Besides 1) the foundation stuff first, pills everyday, eating, water, and slowly regulating sleep schedule, and to start walking when I can, 2) Utilizing charts and planners that help me be on track, verses forgetting everything constantly, or being swallowed up by the couch all day, not knowing why I even entered a room. Lol, And 3) asking for accomodations at work or trying to figure out what i even can be successful at, and make better decisions of my work choices, Are there other kinds of accommodations we can use? Thanks!! 🙏🏻 💖💖💖💖💖🤗🥰👩🏻‍🎤💃🏻

    It's really hard for me to say how long I have been masking. I don't even know what is me and what is a mask. I grew up undiagnosed but also with a lot of child abuse and neglect so it's very hard for me to separate it all. For me it was all just survival. It's very interesting to ponder. I have created a very slow quiet life for myself, so now I have the time and space to do so.

  • @ladyphoenix_111
    @ladyphoenix_111 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's being "too sensitive"... They are like, .. ohhh I was going to talk with you, and now you are going to tell me about x, y, z,? I'm not allowed to have problems, so you can't. Or no one I knows has that... Or just focus better...like it's just about being distracted. Losing time.. disorganized thinking, short term memory, paralysis... I mean these things - they are happening. But if you "complain" about something, that culturally is not considered polite to talk about your issues. That's a you problem.. kind of thing. Or maybe you should go to a counselor about that? (Meaning not me) Omg...there are cultural attitudes and etiquette rules they adhere to. They just want to ___, (hang out, or work), not talk about problem stuff. And if you do, there is this thing.. oh.. why is she talking about that? Get over it. I have to...what do you want special attention? Omg..we already feel crazy, and general attitudes on what is ok to talk about and what isn't, makes you think we actually are. Which isn't helpful. Yeah .. neurotypical social rules. That is more important to them, than the actual content probably. It's a neurotypical world... And we are just living it it maybe.. Oh... And if you have a disability, why is it professionally and legally accepted protocol, that if you are asking for accommodations. You have to PROVE you have a disability with documentation etc. Why is the default mode to assume you are faking, unless proven otherwise?? I mean it doesn't make sense? You are faking unless proven innocent and you are only asking for a quieter atmosphere or it to be ok if you are a few minutes late. Meanwhile, murderers and rapists and terrible people who are put on trial, are considered "innocent" until proven guilty. Something is wrong here? 🤔💡 Definitely want to do a vlog on this soon, for sure! Sorry, I didn't mean to get triggered. Lol 😊 (Rambling with horrible grammar). But it is a problem. And how do you culturally socially, address a problem or talk about it, if people look at you funny for even having an issue. You don't fit into the role, or mold, or job expectations, or social expectations of you as a daughter, worker, family member, friend, that's a "you" problem. Everyone else has to tow the line, stop being a baby, etc. You instantly "other" yourself. It's such a tricky line to walk. Both in the work place, and with friends and family. Unwritten rules, that we didn't get. Meanwhile we don't want it to be an issue. We just want to let them know, so they know WHY these things happen. Even if you disclose to a boss discretely, they may make one accomodation, but, they don't want special treatment. So even though they act understanding, and you give them factual science based information, they still blindly expect you to follow the rules, them they expect YOU to be understanding of That, and do it anyway. So... It's like a waste of time. What careers have other people who have ADHD been able to be themselves, even though they might run late, or have autonomy at work? I would love to know! 💗💖🥰
