Humpbacks are some of the most intelligent whale species there is. They’re guardians of the ocean, interrupting orca hunts to try to save other species. They have also protected humans from sharks. They’re also extremely curious animals and playful, I think it was probably just curious about all the people and came in for a closer look. Some of the reasons they breach is just for the fun of it, attempts to knock of the horrid Barnacles that cover a lot of their noses and to scare away predators. Seriously some of the most gentle giants and majestic creatures alive.

I would say with total confidence that that whale had NO intention of hurting you let alone touching you. They may be big but they know where their bodies are. That’s tremendous ! What an experience that was !

I watched a video from Dodo which is a very popular animal channel and one of the videos was a humpback whale protecting a female diver from a tiger shark. Either way that whale might have been curious or protecting you.

Seeing stuff like this makes me even more sad about all those wind farms they plan on building along the east coast that are damaging the whales and their environment

I heard that Humpback whales will try to save other creatures from getting eaten by Orcas and Sharks by swimming near them sometimes, so maybe it could've been trying to protect you or something
