A girl with a garden, some projects and too much stuff…
We are beginning a year-long BIG project minimizing and downsizing our life! Come along as we address just about every part of life that can be simplified--our possessions, my body, our garden, our spending, my recipe stack. See if my packrat husband decides this is the year...or not!
We live on a small rural property (a farm-ish or tiny farm) in Northwest Alabama. We moved here in 2022 and promptly started to rehab the yard and planting beds that were mainly full of weeds. In the spring of 2023 we started straw bale gardening and were so successful we hope to expand our raised beds to increase the number of varieties of veggies we can grow. Will this be the year we get grapes in? How about those chickens (NO says hubby)? It is all a learning experiment, so please join us in a conversation about what works and what won't.

Using Tree Debris to Make Rustic "Hurdle" Fence Panels
Hello Friends from Northwest Alabama! This project is to explore with some ways to make a decorative fence panel using tree debris branches from cutting down some dead-ish trees in our yard. Using the "hurdle" method of making portable but pretty panels, let's see what we can put together for the price of a couple 2x2x8 pieces of pressure treated lumber and a box of screws. This project will eventually complete a 32 foot long section of fencing extending from the back side of the house over to a line of trees that we will be taking down sometime this year. That explains why I wanted something moveable--we will need to remove them to take down the trees. But I wanted something that would look nice (I like rustic) and keep the dog in the backyard. The cost for this project was $150 but remember all of the material other than the frame is from downed trees on our property!
Below is a cut list of the lumber suggested in the video:
2x4x8 pressure treated - 24 pieces. Each panel required 2 pieces cut into 36" lengths and 2 pieces cut into 33" lengths
Leave your suggestions in the comments, please. Your comments help me grow this channel, so thanks in advance.
Famished Farm is our little slice of 8a (new revised zone!) Heaven in Northwest Alabama. We are a tiny farm or a "farm-ish" as I like to say! Our goal this year is to simplify and minimize while keeping an eye to sustainability. We hope to grow the garden bigger and greener every year. Join us for the journey and leave any suggestions, ideas or just say HI in the comments. I appreciate YOU and am so happy you joined me today!

Hello Friends from Northwest Alabama! For under $175 using new materials you can build an arbor to showcase and protect your grapes and berries. I chose the northeast corner of my property which faces south as the site and moved my plants there last fall after putting up three posts in concrete. This month I finished it so things will be ready for the Spring growing season when I hope to add so...
