The Trull Gallery
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 9 ก.ย. 2010
The Trull Gallery focuses on woodworking, tools and home repairs. I've been building custom furniture for over 30 years, and I enjoy sharing the tips and techniques that I've learned over those years. As a kid, I grew up in a house that my dad had built. If something needed fixing or upgrading, we did it ourselves. I've carried those lessons forward, and I'll share how to tackle some of the items on your home repair or honey-do list. This channel is geared towards those who enjoy working with wood, fixing their own homes, and just like working with their hands. Follow along as I rebuild my shop, and update my equipment (I kind of sold everything off a few years ago - but I'm back now). If these topics sound interesting I'd ask you to subscribe and follow along on my journey.

In your video the air was coming out of the exhaust cap of the gun? I have a porter cable BN200SB still new looking, used only a few times and the air is coming out of the exhaust cap as you connect to the compressor and its not shooting nails. I was told the BODY needs to be replaced. Can you advise me concerning this? Thank You.
Without seeing it, I'd guess you have a bad o-ring. It's rare to see a cracked body, but I suppose it's possible
@@TheTrullGallery Well the body of the gun has no crack, unless its a part inside. I however did see awebsite have a diagram of the parts for the gun and #301 is Body but I am confused. Thank you for responding also. I dont know how to send you the link for the diagram of the gun with the part.
@pamelamohammed4551 send me the images at dave@trullgallery.com and I'll see if it makes sense to me.
Good tips on short stock. I have a need and will be making a similar sled. Thanks for sharing
Just an observation: When you started cutting the 8 miters you kept them in order so the grain would be continuous all the way around! With all 4 sides being cut from 1 length of wood how does the grain match from the first miter to the last miter being the fourth corner ?
@timyedo6510 the last corner doesn't match. It can be done, but that adds a bit more work & requires resawing your stock.
If you don't want to keep the chips, you could do what i did....10 foot piece of flex pipe connected to pvc pipe that goes through the wall. The planer blows everything twenty feet into the bush!
I'm sure this video would have been great if he was actually filming his hands so I could see what he was doing.
Great explanation on the whole video thank you. Would have been nice to see it in use. After installed, maybe someone walking up the steps.
What top coat did you use or clear??
@bravizturnbull2358 my topcoat of choice is Minwax Polycrylic. I usually use semi-gloss.
Brother be careful what ever you use… one slip and a finger is gone..
I use the Jay Bates style made from 2x6. I find more comfort and safety. Hope the hand continues to heal well. I'm currently battling calcium build up in a shoulder and can't move it but a few degrees 😢 so no wood working for me💔
The pauses are so insanely awkward and painful. Came back for more.
I want to tell you how much I appreciate you! I've only watched one video of yours, so far, but it is one of the most clear, concise and strait forward video, of this type, I've ever seen!!! Even you voice is pleasant...Thank You!
@@JagermeistermasterJ thanks!
Brilliant love it from UK ..❤🪵
what are the dimensions for each wooden board
The dimensions for this box is 24" x 13" x 2-3/4". If memory serves, the sides are 3/4" thick and the face and back are 1/2" ply.
leaves or needles.. wow, didnt realise :)
I love this!
You are right on with this video on buying your lumber from lumber yards rather than the "big box" stores. In my town we are lucky to have a hardwood company who sells both hardwoods like red and white oak, hard and soft maple, walnut, poplar, birch, alder, in addition they offer a wide range of quality plywood. I have made some select pieces of furniture from their poplar wood. I find that poplar requires a stain which is more dense with red tones in order to cover up the green and purple tint to the natural wood. If I had the option, I would have included a picture of the hall table I just finished.
@@keithseidenstricker9764 I'd love to see it. Send me a picture at dave@trullgallery.com!
How much did the kit cost?
That particular kit is going for just over $60 these days
It is too late for me as I just burned out the motor in my De Walt thicknesser as you did. - which is why I have just watched your very important video - my next machine wont have this problem as I will use better extension cords or even perhaps run it off the main outlet.
I'm sorry to hear that. It's an expensive lesson for sure.
Safety first, please use a push stick or block on the table saw.
Amazing
Good job sr
Does it need wood conditioner before oil ?
@DR-um2bv in 30ish years of using Danish oil, I've never used wood conditioner.
@TheTrullGallery Ok i have spruce pine. So not even on pine ? Thanks
But can you paint over Cabot semi transparent oil that is on a deck????? Thanks
@KBMB47 I would think that if the oil was old / dry enough, the paint should bond. But don't take my word for it. I'd reach out to Cabot for a real answer.
I have some 1/4 inch thick lacewood about 24" long and 5" wide that has cupped along the length.... is there any way to recover it so it can be used?
@xisotopex sometimes you can moisten one face and it will even out. If memory serves, wet the concave side and set that face down. When it dries, it should be close. Do a test if you can. It's been a while since I tried this.
Thanks for sharing. I love ❤️ it
Thanks for the update and Good luck with the hand

Man, talk about precise, you are good. I appreciate your use of both old world and new world sawing technology. You're doing really great work, I finally found the set screws on my portable delta and am turning out some amazing 4 corner grain matching walnut boxes that are gorgeous!

How much does the bar top overhang the base cabinet?
If I recall correctly, there's a 12" overhang.
I have one that I have used for a few years… Prayers for your recovery soon and make more videos
Thanks Dave for the info and update on the plans
Hey Jackie, The plans are now available on my website. www.trullgallery.com/shop
It’s a beautiful box and I would love to have the plans
It may take a few weeks but ill post them on my website. Once they are up, I'll add a link.
I have been using an extension cord with my Ryobi for about 2 years. Now for some reason when I start the saw, it smokes between the power cord and outlet. I really don't know much about electrical work. I replaced my outlet and also the power cord thinking that might help l. Still smokes. Tried using different different cord, different outlet. Did I damage my miter saw after 2years on extension cord?
I guessed it before I watched it, another pocket hole stand.
@trep53 it may not be fancy, but it's still going strong four years later!
Great concept...not what I initially would have thought of to make this "repair"
@@b0y9ggz thanks!
I really liked that you included mistakes and explained them. It helps a lot. I constantly make mistakes and learning from them improves my process for the next project.
Thanks! I agree. It's a great way to learn!
Subscribed. Great explanation on this build. My compliments to the design committee.
@@randykane474 thanks!
Do you recall the budget for this project? I want to try and tackle it
It took five sheets of 3/4" ply, three sheets of 1/2" ply and one (partial) sheet of 1/4" ply. Since prices vary wildly from location to location, and even vendor to vendor, you may have to do some research. The drawer slides ran me just over $250 and that was about a year ago. Links for where I got them are in the description above. If you build it, I'd love to see the finished product!
Thank you so much! Yes of course, I will gladly share when done!!🤗
Just out of interest, the needle is removable if you really need to, but it's a real pain. It's a long time since I watched it, but there is a video on youtube showing how.
@johnnyshinnichi1785 Good to know, thanks!
What do you mean by the water finish was ruined by the oil stain? My minwax oil stain and the water polycrillic say it’s ok to apply water finish over oil stain…but I trust your opinion.
I've been told you can use Polycrillic over oil stains, as long as the stain is fully dried. AND you've stained over raw wood. If the stain isn't fully cured or you stain over finish (there's a term for that, which escapes me at the moment), the poly will bubble up and peel off. I never take the chance and wipe the stain with alcohol just in case. The peace of mind is worth the few minutes of effort.
Nice, clear detailed video. I have been keeping the outside scrap you teimmed off for another bookmatched lid for a narrower box later since the 2 outside edges still match up. I actually saw what i was doing wrong with this board flipping method on the miters. Thanks for not making it an hour of unnecessary dialog.
@jimmyers7396 Thanks! I'm glad it made sense.
Legal demais. Saudações aqui do Ceará/Brasil.
@joseedinaldo3672 obrigado! ( If I'm translating well...)
What is the thickness of these Rockler plates? Cannot find it on their website. Please Help!!
@jacquesmostert4115 the thickness listed on Amazon says 3/8" but I measured mine, and it was 1/4". You may have to check with Rockler...
Would finishing before glue up also help for squeeze out and a more consistent finish?
@CisnerosShop yes and no. usually prefinish pieces on the inside, but for something like this, it was easier to finish afterward. At least in my thoughts...
Regards from spain brother ,thanks for you work
@AlbertEinstein-ew7fh thank you!
@@TheTrullGallery god bless you many
it was a pleasure to see you working from begining to end , thank you very muvh
@@gabrielaa.jimenez9914 glad you enjoyed it. This was a fun build!
In the long run it is certainly the cheapest option. I'm on the same can of Johnson wax I bought in 2010 with not much of a noticeable difference in how much it's been used in all that time. Then again, I live in southern Indiana where while the summers are sticky humid some times, but apparently not enough to cause rust under a good coating of wax. If I'm not going to be using my machinery for a while (like over the winter), I just apply a light oil to the surfaces that tend to rust which is easily cleaned off with anything from brake parts cleaner to lacquer thinner.
@@Rebel9668 good plan! Wax worked for me I New England, but it just can't keep up in Florida.
Great Video it saved me a lot of time. Bosch no longer carries the Rubber boot. I found one on eBay for a reasonable price. Most on that site were outrageously overpriced.
@@tahogirlz I'm glad it helped & that you found the boot!
