My mom made me pay bills for real as a teen, needless to say I do not talk to her anymore. 😂 This is great for parents that really want to teach, some parents are just greedy af and use their children as a paycheck.

Good job! I opened a bank account for my kids when they were 8 yrs old. Would put money in there for allowance. They could then learn to use their own debit card to buy little things they wanted or go to the movies with their friends (I learned the debit card usage was better because when I was younger I would see teens buying drugs with their parents money, BIG NO, NO for me). Both my kids never over drafted. When they turned 18 it was their responsibility to pay for their own cell phones, gas money, car insurance and anything else they wanted. They also bought their own cars & homes by themselves by the time they turned 23. Own their own business. Teach them young!!

Teaching them about money? Really? Why? Do you want to raise transactional little people? Teach them about something that's real. like science.

idk why people act like this is awful. it’s $1 per thing just to teach the child the concept of rent. schools don’t teach kids how to act financially responsible. it’s a simple way to get the concept to them so they can understand what it will be like one day. i highly doubt their children go without because they can only use “allowance”
