STATS & ECs that got me into to the college of engineering at Texas A&M
มุมมอง 3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I go over all the stats I included in my application (classes, extracurriculars, GPA, rank, SAT, awards, AP scores, and essays) that allowed me to get into the college of engineering at Texas A&M- College Station! Hello, Mrs. Rojas. Is it possible you could make a video about course selection for TAMU Engineering?
hi! very sorry i haven't made any videos lately (busy with college :/), i will start working on a video about course selection asap! let me know if there is anything specific about course selection you would like to know about :)
Hey! I’m a senior trying to apply to Texas A&M and I have some questions about what does Texas A&M engineering at Blinn or Galveston or McAllen mean ? What does this locations mean? Do I have to chose between of those? I need help on this! Please
they are programs you can do if you don’t get accepted into the engineering program I think. I know the blinn program allows you to take classes at Binn college and then transfer to A&M
hi! from my understanding blinn is a community college in college station which has partner programs with A&M (some people will transfer from there into A&M). galveston is when people don't fully get into A&M so they go there for a year and if they achieve a certain GPA they transfer to A&M. mcallen is similar to galveston but a different location. since this is just information that i've gathered and not personal experience i would check it out online (admissions.tamu.edu/apply/freshman/alternative-admission-pathways). hope this was helpful :)
hey! Which grade’s transcripts should I send? Are 10th and 12th predicted scores enough? Also, after applying on the common app, they will give me the UIN, right? So then again I have to submit my LORs and essays on AIS?
hi! so you need to send your most current high school transcript, which usually includes the grades from your freshman year through your junior year. after you submit your application, yes, they will send your UIN. since i can no longer access my application and AIS i can't tell you the exact documents that they required me to submit for each but they should specify once you get to that step. sorry for the late response, i hope this was somewhat helpful!
I'm a senior this year. In state. 3.88 uw gpa, 4.64 w gpa, and 1300 sat. do you think I can get into industrial engineering or applied mathematics?
hi! im not qualified to tell you whether or not you'll get in to A&M for sure. there could be many other factors apart from grades that could affect your admission that i am not aware of. all i can do is give you my stats so you can make your own deduction :) however, for industrial engineering at least, the scores you achieve within your first and second semester as a freshman (before Entry To A Major) will partly determine if you get in, in addition to the essays. there is a part of the ETAM essays where you can talk about your high school achievements (not necessarily grades, could be extracurriculars...etc.). i hope this is helpful!
@@frojas Thank you 😊
Texas A&M accept how many backlogs for masters in mechanical??
hi! sorry for the late response! i am not really sure what you mean by backlogs, i applied to general engineering for an undergraduate degree so i do not have a lot of knowledge on the graduate program at A&M. i would call the Aggie One Stop i found them to be helpful in answering any questions. very sorry i couldn't be of more help.
hi thanks for the video does uni offers scholarship after accepting the student?
hi! so they could potentially offer scholarships after sending you an acceptance email. i am not 100% sure since i didn't receive any scholarships. as an incoming sophomore i did apply for the university scholarship (a universal application for most A&M scholarships) which you can apply for every year. your application to the university as an incoming student should already include the scholarship application. hope this helps :) aggieonestop.tamu.edu/financial-aid/types-of-aid/scholarships/undergraduate-scholarships
Did everyone get UIN number? I mean I mail the graduate coordinator. According to him, my application decision is denied. Then why they give me UIN number?
hi! very sorry for the late response, the UIN is sent to everyone that applies to A&M whether they are accepted or not. they use it to collect more information and for you to keep track of your application process.
How does automatic admission help with getting into engineering? I thought since it was a really competitive major everyone was holistically reviewed...
hi! so automatic admission only helps you get into Texas A&M, not engineering. admission into general engineering is holistic, so you can get into A&M but not get into engineering. to my knowledge, automatic admission doesn't have any effect or help you in any way to get admitted into general engineering. hope this was helpful!
Thank you so much for the response! Yeah it took me a while to figure this out... but luckily I got admitted into the engineering school a couple days ago!@@frojas
@@sadmad9932 i'm so glad!! congratulations!
thanks for the info, rlly helpful
Hey thank you for making this video. A&M is the best option for me since it is not too far from my home, is well ranked, has good opportunities, is set in a good location. Probably the only college my parents would let me go to since they don’t want me to go too far away from Houston. I’ve been worried about whether I’ll make it in or not. I did the sat once and got a 1360 (680 reading/writing, 680 math) and my gpa is a 3.7 UW (weighted is out of a 7.0 scale at my school and it is 6.45). I also always felt that I had trash extracurriculars, so seeing that A&M doesn’t really require some god level extracurriculars is reassuring. I’m doing the sat again and I’ll do the act since I’ve always been strong in science so it will be better for me. I’m definitely going to consider A&M my target choice and UoH/ UTD are the backups and UT is the semi reach school. I have a question on ETAM. So I do a year of general engineering then I finalize what I want to do? Also A&M doesn’t accept college credit for calculus BC according to the admissions officer I talked to at a college fair at our community center. If I didn’t get college credit for precalculus because I did honors precal not dual enrollment, will I have to do precal in college? Or would I be able to skip out of precal by doing calc bc and its exam but still have to do calculus in college? Idk how they would do it.
hi! so glad my video was helpful!! since I haven't experienced the ETAM process I only have information that I read online, from my understanding you do the year of general engineering and apply to your desired majors (ranking them from what you want most to least) second semester. if you manage to get a 3.75 GPA, I'm pretty sure you get your preferred major automatically. as far as credits, I had a calc BC credit and got a good score in my Math Placement Exam (MPE) and was put into math-151 (which I think is an equivalent to a semester of calculus BC). so if you're pursuing engineering, most likely you will have to take calculus in college, since the next math is math-152, which is also calculus. i really like calculus so I didn't mind taking it in college, but if you really don't want to take it, I would call texas a&m and find out if there are other options you could take. i hope this was helpful :) let me know if I can help with anything else!
@@frojasoh ok. I am getting ready for calc bc and I’ve studied ahead of time so I shouldn’t do badly, I got a 97 in precal too so my teacher said I’d be fine in BC. I’m fine with taking calculus again in college since it’ll make sure my foundation is secure to get ready for engineering. Thanks for the help 🙂
Hi, I started the whole application process not too long ago, for tamu, do the rec letters have to be from teachers? or can they be from like a job or extra-curricular, etc. Thanks
hey! so it is encouraged for recommenders to be teachers from either your 10th or 11th year of high school. Whether recommendation letters from people other than teachers are accepted, depends from school to school. I am not sure about Texas A&M specifically, since my only recommendation letter was from a teacher when I applied. I haven't found any information that explicitly says non-teacher recommendations are not allowed but I also haven't found any information that says they are. I am sorry I couldn't be more help. If this is something that you think could really impact your application, I would call the Office of Admissions.
@@frojasdid you only have one rec letter? I got one teacher working on it and she should be done but i don’t know if i have time to ask my engineering teacher for one and it’s already almost October so it’s probably too late. Any advice?
Never thought I’d see another C/O 27’ Engineer on my TH-cam feed 😂
Thanks, very entertaining and helpful, hope to see you there this fall
thanks for making this, very helpful
I applied late on Jan15 2023 for MSCS. Still waiting for an update
I have the same sat score as you, a 1410, and am considering retaking the test. do you think it would be a good idea if I want to go to a&m for engineering or is my 1410 good enough as is
hey! so this is only my opinion, I can’t guarantee anything. I think that the score you have right now is great. However, if that was your first time taking the sat, it wouldn’t hurt to take it a second time. I got a 1400 my first time, and even though I only increased by 10 points the second time, it was still a higher score that I got to submit. If you have the chance to take it just one more time, I would definitely suggest it :) Hope this helps!
Hey fran! I too got into a&m engineering class of 27. But I am really confused between a&m and Utd for computer science. For info I am international.
hey! i cant really give u any concrete information, only what i have gathered from other people and online. so generally speaking a&m is better than utd academically and socially, regarding price they’re pretty even. i am not really sure about computer science specifically, since i only did research on engineering when i was selecting a school. i would go on both the a&m and utd websites and see their curriculum for computer science for more information. i hope this was helpful!
Thanks fran!
@@ujjwalgupta1238Heyy could we connect just to ask some doubts related to college and application
hey, as an intl student, did you have to pay the 90$ application fee on AIS? what additional documents did you have to submit on AIS by the way?
@@ujjwalgupta1238what did you end up choosing?
do you think that I can apply test optional for the sat and still get into A&M engineering?
hey! so i couldn’t tell you for sure, but in my opinion, yes. when you choose not to submit your sat, you are basically saying you don’t want it to be a factor in your application. i had a friend apply to the university of michigan without an sat score and she got into both the university and the business program, both are very competitive. your application will take into account all your stats (extracurriculars, gpa, essays, etc.), i would focus on those. i hope this helps!
Yes it is very possible! I didn't submit any scores and got into A&M Engineering!
i mean I would do the sat My teacher had gotten into a&m and he told me that SAT can help a lot if u get a good score
👍 Thanks!
Why didn’t you list NHS?
hey! so i wasn't an officer and didn't really do much for the organization other than be a member and do my required volunteer hours, so i didn't feel it was worth mentioning. i have friends that were in contributed the same to NHS as me and decided to put it in their application, so it's really up to you!
Congrats 🎉
Let’s go Fran!!!!❤
OMG INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING SLAYYYY❤❤
what spanish acceleration test did you take to skip 4 classes?
hey! So I had to request the test through my counselor, so if this is something you wanna do I would definitely go talk to your school counselor. I took the Advant test, it's what my district offered ( avantassessment.com/ ). Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions :)
@@frojas thank you!
Thank you! Very informative!
