you can use whatever gas you want - I think you'll find a huge difference in numbers that a deco program churns out for air vs 36/25 - I don't believe there is any imperical support for people being able to adapt to narcosis. If I bailout out I want the clearest head possible not to mentional potentially synergistic o2, narcosis, co2 and decompression issues

Pretty sure that’s what I talk about (venting volume from mouth). You can’t empty counter lung and shut o2 at same time as they are on the same side. Furthermore, a bov is not gonna help as now you can’t vent the loop via mouth (or nose)

@@gbdivering yes we are venting thru nose/mouth while closing oxygen, which is an immediate response to the buoyancy change. Then dil flushing while on loop, further managing buoyancy. Other instructors also teach an alternative method of bailing out first and closing oxygen, then venting loop via pull cord only. YMMV depending on the buoyancy situation

Bov doesn’t help at all since your primary issue is the excess buoyancy

@gbdivering this is in support of your very quick and convenient bail out to BOV at 0:20, which is maximally quick and tidy, allowing for a quick valve shut and loop dump via counterlung OPV (right hip elevated). Though perhaps slightly less quick re: buoyancy as the on-loop close / flush / dump reaction. A distant third place goes to anything involving a necklaced or staged regulator.

The braided nylon doesn’t seem to stretch and if it does the mouth piece never leaks at all :)

I use the ones that nautilus in UK sells... I don't see them on nautilus's website right now but might not be looking in right place

One well designed oring is more than enough :) the places where you can find a double oring are often to stop rocking or in case of head to protect the other oring from debris

I dive both bov and dsv without any preference … just what my hand comes to first during setup (or what students/teammates have). If you set your harness properly you will not get tipped over - control your equipment don’t let it control you :)

@@gbdivering I absolutely loved diving on the Nagato...all the history. The accommodations were comfortable. I enjoyed the afternoon swim in front of our rooms. You knew it was dinner time when the shark fins would appear in the bay. Another memorable event was getting to the bottom. We did that as fast as possible as we were diving Air and deco was 75% O2 hung from the dive boat on a trellis of sorts. Anyway, during one dash to the bottom we saw two sharks swimming up to meet us. They passed me and one shark head butted my friend in the gut. He didn't bite, just a head butt. It sorta frightened us, but by the time we reached the bottom we were so under the affects of narcosis that we brushed it off.

@@gbdivering I did not see the longer videos. I'll look for them. We traveled to Bikini in 2007 and agree, there are better dive destinations. Truuk Lagoon was better and the Cayman Islands wall dives are more beautiful.

When you get to heavy tech or rb your lungs are ineffective - in rec diving you will still benefit from proper, precise buoyancy control in breathing and relaxation which will translate into better situational awareness and most importantly fun :)

In my experience there is no difference between students with or without T2 - so same 6/7 day schedule eitherway. CCR2 is a hard class regardless

Thanks for your comment and I agree partially… Somehow if you don’t know how to control your airway then you can close your nose (or wear a mask). I would suggest developing airway control and awareness of what the rebreather is doing and why it’s not working (eg nose breathing)
