Have driven 8 years, until accident, total loss.....😢 After that a XL 600R, but wasn't as great as the 500. Had that bike 9 years. An since then a 1998 Honda xrv africa twin. No NO for steel wool... those steel particles will embed in the aluminum and cause much worse corrosion by a phenomenon called galvanic corrosion. scotch brite is awesome, sandpaper is ok

How come you dont just separate the two halfs and leave the back half bolted to the diff since you have to separate them anyways once the whole thing is off the truck? Just wondering if that's another way to get it done with less disassembly.

This guy is a total moron and the reason youtube vids get a bad rep. The "flow of the metal" is how it was brushed by how ever made it, metal doesnt have grain in it, it was cast, it was probably brushed with a wire wheel. Removing metal, isnt the way to remove the oxide, almost any weak acid will do this correctly and safely, including citric acid.

I have had the same XL500S more than 40 years ago here in Germany, most of my buddies owned such bikes back in the days. We did almost every weird things when riding off and on road, I do not want to miss this time. greetings from Germany.....

You do realize that aluminum and muratic acid make a toxic gas and it eats aluminum and makes all kinds of byproducts. Not a good idea to get the two together

Ok so I replaced my Center support bearing on a 2004 Toyota Tacoma and after putting it all back together I'm still getting almost a worse vibration than it was before and I think I lined up everything properly but the one part I am not sure about is after you put on the bearing you have that separate piece that goes on with the splines and then you put the thicker washer and then the lock nut because let's say if I did not Mark where my drive shafts lined up how can I factory reset it

Does it dossolve the rustbor does it come off in chunks because my problem with the vinegar is it got most of the rust off but its not aitting in the bottom of the tank and i cant getbit out

Do your self a big favor ! Set your self up with a handy small sand blasting machine to blast the coarse stuff off 1st to cut down on manual sanding and then come back with the fine sand paper and polished for the final result .

I use muriatic acid to get all the thick rust then after rinsing that out and letting it just start to flash rust I throw in some phosphoric acid(rust converter). It seals the surface so the rust won't come back easily.

I have a 2005 tacoma with a 2.5in lift. I had my center bearing replaced 3 weeks ago. Well the mounting bolts broke off and now the drive shaft is hanging down..... The mechanic who did the job claims its the bind from leaf springs that caused the bolts to break.... Any idea what happened?????0. I never hit anything and I dont off road hard at all...Thanks

Worked good without pulling drive shaft. Just split it at the bearing. That way you can’t unbalance your driveshaft

How do treat the aluminium afterwards to prevent oxidizing again, is there a spray on product?

muriatic acid will eat right trough anything aluminium, do not put your gas cap or your petscock on it
