I am really enjoying all your videos! I have been sewing (mainly things for my home) for many years but until recently had never made a bag. I came across your channel on my TH-cam feed (your recent one about free patterns which was great) which led me on to watching many of your others. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience, you have really inspired me to make more 🤩

Just love these tutorials, they make it look so easy, then I do it and I always screw up, either the measurements, or the seam is crooked or my sides never match LOL and to think my mother was a first class seamstress, she never sewed bags but dresses, she also created a dress she sewed that ended up in a fashion magazine. She sewed many wedding dresses too. You could wear her clothes inside out they were so perfect. No matter how hard I try I never get it right. Part of it is because I am loosing my eyesight, removed the cataracts and I now see better but still screw up, I guess it is not one of my talents. 😔

One way to help with seam allowance accuracy is to put a piece of masking tape on your machine with the different measurements marked. Place it where the measurements would be if you don’t have them. Also this helps those of us with more mature eyes.

I use mostly quilting cotton and always wash it first to remove some of the chemicals and the fumigamts they use in shipping. The trick is not over drying it, and using starch (I like best press). I love buying remnants, especially for new patterns, it saves me a ton of money and if I mess up, its not on expensive fabric. And if its good, I have a bag to use or gift.

1 Reading a Pattern 2 Choose your fabric wisely 3 Pre- steam Fabric 4 Use your iron 5 Seam allowance, be consistent 6 Use good interfacing 7 Know your sewing machine 8 Know your needles 9 Don’t need all the tools 10 Print pattern accurately

Do you sell the pattern for the plaid tote bag?

It is so sad that neither you nor Laura ship to other EU countries. There are no options here when it comes to industrial sewing machine thread. Why didn't you send to Sweden, for example?

Hi Deb, I love how it turned out and your fabric choices really elevated it - it looks so classy. I love the idea of the cross body. I’ve had this pattern for a while but haven’t made it yet. You’ve inspired me and I will try the crossbody as well. Where is your small square ruler from please? It so handy. 🫶🏽

I’ve made this bag as it’s so cute, but you can’t put too much weight in it as the handles are on the flap. I wish there was a way to get round this! X

Green for sure! Your skin is so much more clear and bright with the green. The orange color makes you turn a bit too orange. You could wear a scarf or a print shirt in your summer colors next to your face with the orange jacket if you love it and want to keep it. What a lovely honest person you are. Loved your video.
