If you need that hole to be perfect then I recommend a reamer.
1/2 built a 601 hd with a 3.2l 6 cylinder jabiru motor. It was a 1/2 built project as many never get finished. Flew it for 10 years. It is very rewarding when you get to fly. If I did it now, I'd choose a 701.
I am asking this because I am curious, not because I think I know better. Why didn't you run the skin stiffeners spanwise?
I have the Homebuilthelp dvd, and I installed them the way he did in the video. I suppose you could install them across the span. They are not structural at all just a stiffener. Good question though.
@@Superturbo701 If they are installed spanwise I think you would not have to curve them. I don't know if they would work as well as a skin stiffener though.
Very nice! Love to see your progress. I believe you will have an award winning 701 by the time you get finished. Really appreciate you sharing. I want to build one so bad !
Absolutely amazing how Zenith can mass produce kits with such precision. Very impressive. Speaks to their attention to detail.
I have tooooo many irons in the fire right now, But this is a High Priority Item next on the list. thanks for sharing.
Nice to get an update. Very impressed by your attention to detail. You should have an award winning airplane when you get finished. Thank you for sharing all that you do. Really great tips and advice to people like me hoping to build a 701 soon.
Hi From Ireland. Thanks For The Info On The Jigs. It All Helps Cheers.
You should put a 21 tire on the front same as back. That will give you 3”
Hi From Ireland. I am Building A CH-701 Hope To Put The 85 hp Jabiru On Mine, Thanks For All Information, Will Look In Again Cheers.
Coming along nicely. Thank you again for sharing the videos. Just not that much out there on a 701.
Wow incredible details thanks!
Nice you're only a little bit ahead of me. To elaborate. I'm about to connect the fuselage and cabin. Excited and scared.
Nice project.
Easy way to get some more prop clearance is do what Jon Humberd did with his "Super 701" - simply make some extension plates that bolt to the bottom of the legs of the nose gear fork, displacing the axle down as far as you wish.
Amazing video!! Thank you so much for putting out a 701 info vid. I'm am building the same. My question is why not go with the viking Mitsubishi conversion? I didn't get through the whole video yet but just wondering.
Thank you for watching. I went with the baby turbo over the Mitsubishi for the horsepower. I do not plan on competing in STOL competition, but I do plan on installing floats. I originally was going to install the Honda 130 hp following in the foot steps of Deane Philip from New Zealand and the JUG. I talked with Viking several times about their engines, and also talked with Deane who told me flat out that if he was going to build another CH701 he was going to use the baby turbo. Basically the Viking 140 turbo was born during my shopping stage. I followed it closely and when it became available to purchase, I talked with Viking and Jan told me that the vision for this engine was for the Ch701, and that he and Alissa are also build one. I also would like to note that Viking has been top notch to work with through this whole process.
Interesting project. Subscription from Maple Ridge, BC.
Thank you, I’ve enjoyed the building of the CH701 through all the ups and downs. I have learned a lot, and have a lot to learn. If at anytime you have questions about the process of this particular build, 701/babyturbo. Reach out to me and we can talk.
I really appreciate you sharing the videos because I'm planning the same combination of a 701 and baby turbo. Very informative and very much appreciated. Thanks again.
I like your videos. They are on point, with no flashy but pointless intros, music, or branding. You show the subject, and you're done. Thanks!
It has a very long stroke for a small engine. Its equivelant to a rotax 915 spinning at 8600 rpm at take off and sitting at 7000 rpm for cruise as far as piston speed is concerned. 90.5mm stroke for this engine vs 61mm for the rotax line. Reciprocating mass aside, the piston speed is quite high and I cant imagine it will be good for ring longevity. Most of the modern small engines all have very long strokes for low speed torque, they arent designed for constant high rpm. A rotax 915 at 5500 rpm would be equivelant to this little engine at 3700rpm. Be interesting to see how it goes, best of luck
You have to be NUTS to leave the ground in that rinky-dink contraption!
He is nuts
Lots of fun flying on skis for sure. I made set spruce for mine years ago worked fine. Did you get the taill ski made yet? See some fellas use an aluminum shovel, better than what you have now!. Fly safe!
It just seemed like it was asking a lot from the little plane, but it did a great job, and it took a lot of guts to try it.
Сначала подумал, странные аэросани
Lol
Двигатель вроде агонь!!!необходимо винтами поиграть.....
Thanks, after researching all the kit plans, I also think the 701 was a good choice for the flying that I want to do. As far as power plant I have purchased a 140 HP turbo charged engine.
Jon is a good source to have close by, I will post some videos of the 140T on the aircraft once it is installed, probably sometime in April. I talked with Viking yesterday and learned that my plane will be the first 701 with the Viking 140t configuration besides the 701 that Alissa and her son are building at Viking.
Why know tail ski???????
No*
,👏👏👏💪
I have a friend who constantly flies in the winter, so he used the means at hand to create an airboat, especially for compacting snow. After shielding for a minute, it rolls a stripe and then flies
underpowered would be an understantement xp
"PromoSM"
Uma bosta.
Needs a tail ski. Good grief, begging to damage the rudder or elevator
I can smell the farmer in this one I know of several that have destroyed air craft an almost died in aircraft because of the mentality they have............!
Well, it is a taildragger after all...😂😂
does that thing have a gas pedal or a proper throttle, I've never heard an airplane change throttle position so much before
I’m cold watching this!
A meager climb in thick, cold air. How much worse in warm, humid air will that be? I would want more….something.
How about letting it warm up ? Would not treat any engine like that
What the hell do you think he did, it ran for over a min before he powered up.
Before the video the plane was taxied up and down the field at least 4 times. We know how to treat our engines. Thanks for worrying though.
@@Superturbo701 There's an expert in every field. Lol.
That ugly looking craft looks like it could be one life threatening machine.
Clueless comment
It's a beautiful airplane if you don't like it don't look at it
@@jeffreyhagelin3672 😊
I love it. Have fun be safe.
Cool little airplane!
Did he comeback?
Hoffentlich, sonst würde er immer noch fliegen. 😂
No we are still looking for him till this day
I've flown Ultralights, Avids and Kitfoxes on skis for the last 20 yrs and 3 hrs in the last week, put a tailwheel ski on. But have fun, and be safe.
Hella fun.
You made a good choice! The 701 is a strong and great flying STOL. Put 100hp in it, and it will do anything you ask.
I love how the tail just drags in the snow, no gear necessary. not used to seeing that lol
Haha a true tail dragger
It actually has a steel spring ski between the ground and rudder.
Nice plane
Hey I live in middle TN Not too far from Jon Humberd. Talked with him a couple weeks ago about going down to his place and go over his builds. I'm a farmer just like Jon and I'm planning my 710 build. I'm seriously considering the turbo 140 engine myself. Wanted to thank you for making the videos available. Every bit of information is helpful to those considering building their own airplane. Keep up the good work and thanks again for posting.
