Roadside Red-Tail Trio
มุมมอง 478หลายเดือนก่อน
Finding red-tailed hawks in Colorado during the winter months is easy. They're everywhere, as this video illustrates. Colorado's most common winter Buteo can be found in the steel, concrete, and glass canyons of Denver, as well as the surrounding suburbs, industrial areas, and especially along highways and connecting roads. Drive carefully while looking closely and you'll see them. Enjoy!

When looking for raptors, such as the common red-tailed hawk, sometimes it can be more productive in the long run to look for raptor graffiti. Once you've found it, and depending on how much you find in one location, you can be assured that you have discovered a local territory for a raptor. This video brings the point home at the intersection of art and nature. Enjoy, and please subscribe to o...

He dropped in to see if the mated pair had returned from their summer sojourns and he got lucky. The pair were perched not far from their nest enjoying the mid-day sun. Stay tuned as we continue covering this nest for the 2025 nesting season.

A Very Rare Red-tailed Hawk

Back to more from the Knolle Farm & Ranch visit early October, 2024 where we heard about a white hawk not too far from the ranch. As luck would have it, on the morning of the day we were leaving, we took one last trip down an old barely paved road that borders the ranch and came across this stunning white bird. At first it almost looked like a snowy owl parked on the post. Using the full 1365mm...

@@Pollyfish probably a starling, and some of the gravel pits are stocked with fish, but lots of water fowl hang out on all the water bodies, and bald eagles also go for rabbits, prairie dogs, and they scavenge a lot! The little bird would be too quick for the bald to catch anyway.

Much new information that I did not know. I thought that once they left the nest it was a done deal. It makes perfect survival sense to go back to where food was regularly provided. And the eagle parent, needing for the juvenile to hunt on its own, has to provide what we human’s call “tough love”. Very enjoyable video, but the narration makes a big difference in understanding what has happened before to provide context to what the viewer is seeing.

Thank you so much for posting these videos. They make my day! Back in 1989 and 1990, I had the fortunate opportunity to be a member of CDOW’s (now CPW) Peregrine Falcon Recovery Team, more affectionately known as “Jerry’s Kids”, named after Jerry Craig, one of the main people responsible for the recovery of the peregrine in Colorado. As part of the job, we surveyed known and potential nesting sites throughout the state, then banded the young. Some of us were then also assigned to hacking out 5 infant peregrines at different sites around the state. I was assigned to a site near Buena Vista, but had the opportunity to go to several other hack sites including LoDo. So, to see these birds brings things full circle. Currently work in LoDo and in the past I have spotted peregrines zipping by my 15th floor office window, but I have passed them off as passage birds mainly due to the time of years, but with this new info, you can bet that I will start taking walks with my binoculars and maybe even a spotting scope. You’ll know it's me because I will have a big smile on my face. Thanks again!
