    13:52 aaaaand you're completely missing the point. You say people who complain never watched the fight, meanwhile i'm saying you defend it like someone who has 0 idea who Cersei or even truly Wonder Woman is. Cersei is one of WW's arch enemies and was matching her in strength in a few instances. She is also one od DC's most powerful magic users and the notion that "she has to use her hands for magic" is wrong in tge general sense and an abysmal downgrade on Gunn's side. And sure, Weasel was a Firestorm villain, but he was never above D-tier villain. Him defeating Cersei is tge equivalent of Captain Boomerang defeating General Zodd. "Getting caught off guard" doesn't make sense when the opponent literally has the power to throw you to the moon.

    My main problem is that I hate the princess because she is a rapist. Flag said that he didn’t want to have sex with her and she still made advances on him. While flag was vulnerable after the fight she practically push herself onto him till he had sex with her. I hate flag because although he rightfully didn’t want to have sex with a random women that is probably 10+ years younger than him while he has a wife and had a kid. I’m not made that he had sex with the princess, I’m mad that he was still okay with it after the act and the at the show treated their sex scene as something good when flag was clearly not okay with before. I hate Frankenstein because he’s an incel who thinks that he owns bride. There was no redemption for him and I disliked how flag teamed up with him. I hated the doctor who created bride because he groomed her into having sex with him. Bride was just born and the only man who ever gave her kindness groomed her into have sex. There is no ethical way that bride having sex could have happened. Bride is mentally a child and cannot give proper consent. I only watched this show because of G.I robot because he is the best. He just want to kill na-zi’$ and I can get behind that. There are some good parts of this show but the glaring sexism isn’t talked about enough from other reviewers. I thank you for bringing it up how weird these scenes are. I’ve seen adult shows before so I get that the creator is being edgy but I think that it’s unethical for this show to push so many rape scenes and not make it very clear in the show that it is bad. It almost feels like they sometimes downplay rape or in flag’s case celebrate his rape. It’s so unnecessary and it ruins the show for me. But hey this is just my rant about it. G.I robot is the best and he is very based.

    0:04 The way that Bob Kane always seemed to take most of the credit for the creation of ''Batman''? And he never really gave Bill Finger the credit he deserved is only the tip of the Iceberg. Not to long ago, a man named "Frank Foster III" from Cape Cod Massachusetts. Claimed that his father "Frank Foster II" was the one who originally created "Batman" in the early 1930s. Or a very similar *noturnal costumed vigilante* who's name also happened to be "BATMAN". And he seems to have the drawings to prove it. According Frank Foster III, his father "Frank Foster II" got into creating comic characters because of the influence of his art school classmate and friend "Al Capp". Who would later go on to become famous for creating the classic comic strip *Li'l Abner*. Frank Foster II went to NYC after graduating from art school to try to sell his ideas to content distribution studios like King Features Syndicate. But was unsuccessful, after which he moved back to Boston and started a painting business that failed circa 1937. The Fall of 1937 is when he went back to NYC to try again. He survived doing murals as well as a few short jobs drawing cartoons. Namely for Muncey publications and National Publications (which would eventually bacome what is now DC comics). It was in 1938 when he almost certainly encountered {Bob Kane and possibly Bill Finger}. Both of whom were doing drawings for "Jumbo Comics" which was then owned by Muncey publications. So there is a good possibility that the three were actually quite well acquainted at the time. Oddly enough... Bill Fingers suggestions brought the costume more in line with Foster's version. But could Kane's early versions of Batman have been an effort to deflect from any obvious Piracy? We may never know for certain? But given his track record, I wouldn't have put it past the late Bob Kane to do something along the lines of stealing both the name and whole concept of someone else's creation.

    I would adjust the ages. 1990-2008 Modern Age and 2008 - present Mercury Age (Digital Age). The modern age defined by the internet and computers in changing developments of publishing. The last Age began with the creation of the 1st MCU movie Iron Man. This about the time digital media began to truly influence comic books, their creations and speculation in sales (a.k.a Keys).

    I strongly disagree with your points about objectification-it felt somewhat forced. What’s wrong with characters flaunting certain things? It happens to both men and women, and it’s no big deal, especially in an R-rated animation. I appreciate that Creature Commandos didn’t shy away from nudity or the sexual aspects of the characters. It fit their personalities and the tone James Gunn was going for, making the story feel authentic to their world.

    Nina dying is impactful to the bride her kindness compared to her cruelty let’s the bride open up she has someone who was nice to her that’s why she kills the princess the reason Nina is chosen for the team is because she is able to swim underwater Waller chose her cause of that feature without into reason the person she was she wasn’t a murder she was just a child with a birth defect who got turned into a creature and was ridiculed for it and never belonged in the world nor that team her dying makes sense to a point and also shows that Circe is right

    Definitely found this worth a watch. its interesting to see they take away other people had of this show without them just saying things to come off as click/rage bate. A few things I found disagreement with aren't really big things, more so, just personal interpretations. For instance, Gunn didn't ask to be animated in the opening sequence. The animators just enjoyed working with him and wanted to surprise him with a little gift. I can see how that comes off a little pretentiousness in the wrong light. I think the brothel scene was supposed to explain why Th Princess came on to Flag so aggressively. The Princess needed Flag in her back pocket, and as the brother host explained, the bride used her body as a weapon to take a life. The Princess and the girls of the brothel used their bodies in a way to control one. I.E. control men. The fact that the brothel ends up needing to do things the brides way mirrors how the princess ended up doing the same. However, I completely understood your viewpoint on the brothel as well. Very much could have been handled better. Why didn't Flag call Waller? Because he needed concrete evidence. She wouldn't be moved to call off the hit otherwise. It was easier for him to call The Princess and put the castle on high alert while he investigated. By the time he finally had sufficient evidence, it was too late. Clayface was in the house, and he couldn't escape. The Brides backstory went... pretty much as it should have in a twisted way. In the Frankenstein book, Victor actually destroyed The Bride pretty much immediately after creating her because he feared what two undead monsters could do to the world. And what if they could have children? So he ended her. The messed-up part was that the monster wasn't even a true villain yet. Victor despised his own creation. Shunned it. And basically forced it to become a monster. When the monster returned to Victor after years apart, he demanded that Victor create him a bride so that he wouldn't feel alone. Basically, im saying Victor has ALWAYS been a piece of crap. So him banging the bride is pretty much something he would do if he didn't end her first. Lastly... Nina... yea, I just straight up agree with you on her use or lack thereof. I kept waiting for something. A moment that showed how she COULD be seen as dangerous even though she was a pacifist. Or a moment that showed how valuable she could be. But.. naw... Sometimes people live crappy lives and die in crappy ways. That about sums her up. lol Anyways, thanks for the reivew. I feel like they could have made one final twist where the princess was actually good and the witch was evil and just made it up because let's think about this why would clayface kill the historian then tell amada waller that the prophecy is true. If he already works for the princess I mean the princess did her job she convinced rick flag and had the trust of the government all she had to do was tell clayface that the the witch( sorry I forgot her name ) and just say that she can create possible futures and all that bs. I think when it comes to Nina for me the reason I feel she was wasted isn't because she died but she doesn't contribute all that much to the plot. Without her the Bride has no friend but she ends without one, she doesn't really show off her intelligence in any way that's very plot worthy, and even the thing that was a red herring in a way "Just wait till you get her in the water" was just "Oh yeah she can swim cause she's a fish". Her backstory was really good and then she's just gone at least for now.

    • @crwhitwick
      @crwhitwick 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They could have had her hack that terminal in the last episode, that would have made her contribute something meaningful that had further impact to the plot. Or they could have drawn from the flashback where they mention that she's a polyglot and had her actually hold conversations with people from Pokolistan in their native language? Instead everybody in that country is multilingual so it doesn't come up. At least that last bit isn't uncommon in media so I'm more willing to handwave it away.

  • @nothingspecial4240

    When Nina’s dad died trying to tell the authorities she couldn’t breathe air, even though they were gonna chuck her in a water tank anyway. That was so ridiculous it actually made me laugh. Also, what’s up with all the unnecessary gun use in this show? For instance, Nina’s father could've been stopped without resorting to a bullet to the chest. And in Weasel’s backstory, when the cop says, "It’s got a kid", and right after that they start shooting at them? What was the plan there? Did they want the kid dead? Are they stupid? Or were they trying to frame Weasel and needed no witnesses?

    • @crwhitwick

      Honestly, the most tense part of that scene with Weasel was with the cops just shooting wildly like that. I was SO sure that the girl would've caught a stray bullet any time they started blasting.

    I thought that Doctor Frankenstein is actually the bad guy. From Bride's perspective we got to see how terrible and confusing being reborn feels like. Eric most likely went through the same thing arguably it could've went worse since he was the first creation. Doctor promised this abnormal, mentally challenged child love, created him a partner, only to bang it in front of him. He actually cucked his own son. Not only he got freaky with a child but also with stitched up body parts. They could just write it that Frank got jealous and accidentally smashed his father into pieces, it wouldn't be that weird.

    • @KingChrobar
      @KingChrobar วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ya I thought the Brides story was a great way to show how grooming can happen and the victim does not realize it. Bride trusted and felt safe around Victor because he raised her, and he took advantage of that trust despite being essentially her father. Eric is also a victim of Victor in a way, being his parental figure and all. The show doesn't flat out say "hey this is wrong" but I was floored at how those themes got explored in such a serious way while also being about corpses.

    james gunn didnt give himself that animated segment ftr, that was done by the animators as a surprise to him. also , nina's death isnt an example of fridging, fridging is when a woman character gets killed for the sake of a male protagonist

    • @crwhitwick
      @crwhitwick 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Interesting to learn that about the animated intro, that definitely makes it more okay to look at! As for the fridging bit, it's true that it's meant to boost the narrative vigor of a male character. That's why I phrased it as "fridging by another name," as it serves the same effect while still using a woman as little more than a narrative device. So maybe a percentage better, but it's akin to fridging and still not exactly A+ writing in my mind.

    13:56 Circe goes blow for blow with Wonder woman, who is usually portrayed as similarly invulnerable to superman. "He caught her off guard" I think misses the issue. It would be like trying to catch a steel wall off guard, you just hurt yourself attacking it. Weasel is otherwise portrayed as a big silly animal, no superpowers.

    • @crwhitwick
      @crwhitwick 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well on that note, we'd never seen Weasel participate in combat prior to that scrap, and he's actually a Firestorm villain in the comics, so he's experienced in going toe-to-toe with some of DC's heavy hitters. It feels odd, I get that, but just because a fella is goofy doesn't mean they aren't capable of throwing someone off their game for ten to twenty seconds. See Mr. Mxyzptlk, for instance

    even before finishing the video, it’s so good to have people voicing actual thoughts and criticisms different from the hegemony. i do genuinely feel like, unless it’s from an actual right winger (or a snyder cultist in this case), we rarely ever see dissenting opinions like this that matter. not a big fan of any part of the James Gunn DCU myself so far tbh

      my only actual disagreement with the video, it turns out, is on Circe. personally wasn’t a fan of her portrayal, both as a wonder woman antagonist from the comics and as a mythological goddess. she’s a throw away villain per this plot with an unresolved story who doesn’t demonstrate any of the sheer power or agency as she does in the comics, and getting beat by all of the creature commandos together is pretty disrespectful, like imagine if Loki or Hela were beaten that easily by captain america, hawkeye, and black widow, entirely minimizing the threat they pose as a normally strong and respected character

      I'm very glad to hear you say that! The first part, that is, haha. I feel like with criticism in any realm (media, political, etc.) it's often treated as two sides with a chasm in the middle. But the fact of the matter is that "nuance" isn't a dirty word. We can meet somewhere in the middle and say when something has both positive and negative aspects, and where we can look to make it more of the former and less of the latter.

    I normally avoid film criticism, as I tend to be of my own mind about them; however, I just had to stop by and agree with you, bc CC is just bad. I don’t know if it’s due to the leeway everyone gives James Gunn, but he’s another Joss Whedon. A couple solid game changers, but ultimately settling into an empty, predictable formula that produces a series of diminishing returns and papered over garbage. CC is a perfect example. So in love with itself it doesn’t see that there’s literally NOTHING behind it but empty ‘tude’. I really do hope his era at the helm of the ‘New DCU’ will go on to be better than what he’s done so far. But, I’m definitely chilling on the sidelines for it.

      @crwhitwick 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'll meet you most of the way on that. I wouldn't call the show bad, necessarily, but definitely not one I'm too interested in returning to. The Joss Whedon comparison might be a little harsh as well (considering how yikes Whedon is as a person). But yes, there was a certain formulaic repetitiveness with the episodes that made things a bit dry, and the focus on provocative shock value felt a bit hollow after a while, especially since we already got plenty of that from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. I'm REALLY crossing my fingers for Superman, hoping that it's some of Gunn's best work. But I can understand why some people, like yourself, are waiting to get hit with something PHENOMENAL before saying "yes, I'm in it now."

      @ I concur. I was going to expand on my initial comment, but we basically are on the same page. My feeling is that Gunn has had 3 ‘true’ shots at his version of DCU, and I still don’t know what the bigger picture is. We get a lot of ‘character types’ and a lot of ‘aren’t I a cheeky & shocking bad boy!’, but there’s nothing going on in the bigger picture or under all the surface. I learned more about the world at large, and the character’s inner life in the one, chopped to hell, Suicide Squad than I have in all 3 of Gunn’s pieces. It’s a lot of bread & circus, but there’s nothing underneath.

      Oh, one last thing. WTF was that whole remake of the Bride of Frankenstein that took over half the show?! I mean, maybe that happens in the comics? But, it was still a massive amount of pointless filler that ultimately tells us nothing.

      @@crwhitwick no, but you did make a LOT of inaccurate comments, Frank is not the director surrogate. James said he's most like Dr. Phosphorus, and he also had nothing to do with being put in the intro. You seem like a perfectly decent guy, and your review was interesting but making assumptions can make some arguments weaker, and to be fair I do think you had some good arguments, like the Brides relations with Victor not being properly adressed and Illiana being a poorly written character

    Definitely an Oldie here, so thanks for the welcome back. I'm loving everything about your videos here. The insanely well researched backgrounds, incredible production, and let's face it, you have a great voice to deliver all this. I was a Silver Age DC Comic addict as a kid, avidly gobbling up every month of Superman Family comics as the hit the spinner, but especially Adventure, and the Legion of Super-Heroes. I hope you will be be turning your attention to that talented group of amazing teens, and some of the best pulp stores to come out of the 60's courtesy of Curt Swan's impeccable art and Jim Shooter's fresh ( OK, it's all relative to then!) scripts. As a kid, they wowed me, and pushed me to follow art and illustration into adult life. Keep it up, your videos are superb! Best, Steve

      I'm fine with notable changes being made for characters to make them more distinct from one-another, comic books can tend to skew towards cookie-cutter archetypes a lot of the time. But while I'd say that I like what they did with Frank/Eric, I couldn't IMAGINE being a fan of him in the comics and then seeing... THAT.

    Despite some issues with pacing and most of the episode feeling formulatic, I still enjoy the show thanks to characters, with their backstories creating a big theme about what define a monster. Most of the Creature Commandos (outside from maybe Phosporus) feel like characters from Universal horror film, like Karloff's Frankenstein and Creature of Black Lagoon. They are scary looking but are sympathetic figures and it's the people who manipulate or misjudge that are the true monsters, which is reflected in the show finale. This creates a irony that Eric Frankestein, who is usually one the most sympathetic monsters in pop culture, is a creepy stalker, showing how, despite being seem as monster like the rest of the Creature Commando, what makes him one is his selfishness, the fact he only thinks about himself instead of others.
