@@philpartin8618 i ran a 451 as my personal radio for a long time. my dad bought it new and gave it to me in the mid 90s. Very familiar with them
@@eagleeyeradio9940 I'm currently chasing a problem with the modulation quitting on it. Wish me luck.
@@philpartin8618 check your voltage regulator. Also check AM regulator, solder joints and supporting caps. Now that I think which model it is, look at the 47uf cap near the audio chip. Good luck

How do you recommend to set your mic gain with this radio after peaked n tuned? Also which mic do you recommend for this one a standard mic, power mic or NoiseCanc Mic? ( mic gain recommendations)?
If I set the radio up I would say leave the mic gain wide open unless the person you are talking to is very close and you are splattering on them. I leave the limiters in and adjust to work with it. Any mic that you like would suit. Mic choice depends on the environment that the radio is in and the tone/ loudness of the operators voice. If using a power mic, you would probably need to turn the gain on the mic itself down below halfway. Noise cancelling mics work great for most. As far as brand and or model number...depends on what you like. Of course the old turner road kings are a personal favorite but may be too bassy for many. In that case an astatic 636 may be right for you. The ranger sra198 is a good choice but I personally like those modified as the frequency response is a bit tight and cuts more audio than it should. Same with the stryker noise cancelling mic and the road pros. Slight mods to to make them more sensitive. In a quiet environment, the stock mic does well and can't hardly beat the true sound of a superstar dm402, but they may pick unwanted noise.

are these good radios i was given one it all semms to work except for the silver k eagle mic it seems not to be working properly what would be a good mic for it also mine only has the 2 buttons the pa and noise button
As a tech myself I’ll say 99% of these shops are looking for quick money. They have no idea how to diagnose or actually repair a problem.
I've got a this same radio hasn't been turned on since 2004 not sure if it's still operational. I had someone look at my super star 3900 said he couldn't find anything wrong
You mentioned not to turn RF power all the way up, and only set it halfway. I am curious what it would damage if it’s kept on high RF power? I just bought this radio and haven’t installed it yet at home. Does this apply to other radios as well to not raise RF power all the way up, or just the Rci-x9? Thank you.
Mostly over heating it n blow the finals. Less life for the radio 📻

I think there are 2 things here. 1. Words matter, If I tell you I can't fix it that is totally different then It can't be fixed. 2. You can't build integrity into people. I as a customer appreciate honesty, tell me YOU can't fix it because it's beyond you and I can respect that but to lie and say something like the board is cracked and can't be fixed is another thing. Now that you took the time to trouble shoot and make the quick repair and at a fair price, you would be my tech going forward. Refreshing to see an honest video, good job please keep up the outstanding work

Absolutely no way anything over 40-50 watts in this radio 10:23 is a clean and on frequency signal. Not happening. Scope it.

Yes the Zachary T, Dwight d, 87gtl, 89 gtl etc can have variable power and is quite different than doing it on a 29

Nice work. Just had a 1996 Rci 2970 unhacked and recapped. Man. The things they can do to a radio! But she is clean and works better than ever now.

I sold a Lot of them in Mesick Michigan 1998-2001 I could get 15 -20 watts and 100% Mod out of them and it was Clean . It smoke the Galaxy 99 . get 1500 channels with the side band Converted to Ham .
How do you "tune up" the power? Is that taking apart and messing with the motherboard?
I just bought one tonight, so I will be back to look at you for help on setting it up for cb only.
