SCP Foundation TTRPG Test Session 1: A Breaching Introduction
The world of the SCP Foundation is that of shadows and mystery. Capable of dealing with anomalies with abilities ranging from the mundane to exponential. Join our rag-tag group of Foundation members as they come together to have a meeting at the infamous Site-19, but behind containment doors, anything can be lurking. This game is still currently in development and I wanted to start testing it with my DnD group. I'm hopeful that in the next few months that it will be completed as it was a passion project that I started a few years back. Either way I hope you enjoy!

Eternal Staples: Swords to Plowshares & Path to Exile - An Analysis of Commander Staples

For some drawbacks, we are able to crumble some even highest towers with just the flick of a Plains. This video was incredibly fun to make and really tested my hand with editing. What Makes Games Of Magic: The Gathering So Different?

The question to what makes games of Magic different is quite a multifaceted one. In this video, we attempt to look at the variables that make up this question. Though I’m sure there are some variables that are missed, I think we hit a few good points of interest. Hopefully it helps to answer the question and makes you look at the game a little different in the future!

    Any particular reason for no neo form or eldritch evolution on top of current pod effects?

    • @CommanderPhilosophy

      They’re one time effects that are a little hard to recur in the deck. The deck can be shifted around to support these cards though and can definitely be utilized even without editing! It was something I considered for a bit, but liked trying to keep Pod-effects more permanent based.

      I highly recommend neoform and eldrich, along with tutors they add to consistency. Personally I use them on early tasigur for koma, toxrill, or nezahal. They are more meant for abusing tasigur cmc then any other card.

    Like the video, Turn rotation can be reversed though, and thus is not a stable factor Similarly, the deck randomness is probably a few orders of magnitude smaller, not that it is relevant, since its still big. This is because the order of the top 7 cards is irrelevant, as they will all be drawn, it only matters what cards total are there. In addition, if it comes to games played, a big part of the library simply does not matter order wise, as those cards never get seen or used. In addition, I would like to say that tutors make games feel more similar. I think there might be a lot of forces that make games similar, for example, a commander is a constant, and if a deck has many cards that have interchangeable effects, the possibility space really shrinks. For example, A Sram equipment deck does the same every game: It plays Sram, and gives him some amount of protection, stats and offensive keywords. The individual cards or narrative can lose some meaning to the general feel of "Sram is a big thing with a lot of keywords and protection" Similarly, tutors have a tendency to find a small subset of cards, between the best win condition, interaction and value engine, that makes games play out the same in a lot of scenerio's

    • @CommanderPhilosophy
      @CommanderPhilosophy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly I thought about cranking up the power a bit and think tutors are the perfect direction! They’ll find all the combo pieces you need as well as find your amulet effects. I don’t think the deck could ever be cEDH level as we aren’t completely focused on one line of play, and our land base (Gates) naturally sets us back.

    • @MrMarvelMike
      @MrMarvelMike 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CommanderPhilosophy there is a cEDH variant with Food Chain. I like the pact combo. I’m surprised you are not running felidar guardian. It combos with Kiki and can flicker Garth in a pinch. I think the gate combo isn’t worth building around to be honest. It is slowing down your interaction while making you a target. Whenever a card that says “when the game” stays on board, everyone turns their attention to you. I think all those components are better fit to support your Kiki Jiki or invest space into food chain.

  • @funmaker77
    @funmaker77 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Good video :) Well presented and I really like your approach. I think most arguments fall apart though, once you move from casual commander to cEDH, as the number of possibilities drastically reduces, when one is only concerned with playing optimally, as it not only reduces the ammount of realistic targets, for a spell that chooses targets, but also the ammount of tutors creates a lot of redundancy and you see the same cards way more often. (That doesnt mean your point doesnt hold, its probably the main reason most people prefer casual over cEDH)

    • @CommanderPhilosophy
      @CommanderPhilosophy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would definitely agree that optimal play makes a huge difference in any game. I think it’s a sign of a well seasoned player, but to bring it back on itself that Players bring their own understanding of the game and what to do in any given situation. However, thank you for the feedback and support on the video! It was a cool project to try and deconstruct into something cohesive (though it took a bit of time 😅)

    • @dezsomodos1314
      @dezsomodos1314 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Minimal issue about calculating number of possible deck orders: you simplified that with each card is unique in your deck. That is not the case in most commander table. Basic lands are not unique and you have around 10-35 cards which are exactly the same. Hovewer this does not invalidates the conclusion (no chance to sit with exactly the same deck twice).

    • @CommanderPhilosophy
      @CommanderPhilosophy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dezsomodos1314 I thought about that as well but thought more on the lines of each individual card being it’s own unique entity, for example, two basic Mountains having their own placements/order post-shuffle rather than just lumping them together as Basics. Now, more realistic, inclusion of Basic lands attempts to create redundancy, increasing the probability that you find a Basic Land, making the math a little more complex post shuffle, and makes the deck a little less random, but still highly improbable that you would ever have the exact same or “similar” structure. Great point to make though and completely valid to consider! On a side note, I think it’s really cool that the game can be talked about on such a complex level!

    I'm taking inspiration from this and applying it to my "The Master, Transcendent" deck. I love birthing pod and I kinda forgot about whip. I use to play it back in theros block. It had a really cool interaction with Obzedat, Ghost Council's blink ability ignoring the downside of whip. Remembering that, Conjurer's Closet would be a spicy include. Save your whip creature and get more ETBs.

    • @CommanderPhilosophy

    Are you sure that 34 (35 with a double-sided card) lands is enough for this deck? In my experience, a deck with a 6-cc commander should be running 2-3 more lands and 1-2 more pieces of ramp. I'd be inclined to replace two basics with Blighted Woodland and Myriad Landscape for a start.

    I like that deck name. You must be nuts to come up with something like that. :p Cheap spells that replace themselves in your hand are great for a deck like this, and blue is the perfect color for them. There are also quite a few blue creatures that tap for mana that can only be used to cast instants and sorceries. I like the idea of a blue deck that overwhelms opponents with creature tokens. It's really a pretty versatile color.
