The Man Who SAVED Shakespeare's Plays From Oblivion #booktube #poetry #history #shakespeare
Here we uncover the history and significance of the first edition of William Davenant’s 'Madagascar'. Published in 1638, this rare work offers a fascinating glimpse into early modern literature and exploration.
Its author, supposedly the Godson of William Shakespeare, is now held to be responsible for preventing Shakespeare's poems from falling into oblivion.

Good to see you back. That hot girl …..
And the book underneath is… what?!😅
The hobbit
This is a dream channel for us bookworms
Of the classics, A Tale of Two Cities is my all time favourite. Cannot say no to Tolkien though either.
Still waiting for Tristran Shandy, Tom. Tolkein js getting tired. Boswell's journals and Life of Johnson would be nice., as well.
Can't believe that Aiden got a copy of Harry Potter signed by an actual witch 😂
The Hobbit, if I could own that I would cry
You need to upload more😊
Rowling like bowling fyi.
Your fair isle jumper's pretty impressive too.☺️🇨🇦😉👍
It was also made in the time of art nouveau, when everything was remade more beautifully and attention was paid to detail.
I'd take Walter Scott's Lady of the lake, simply because of its liberty style cover.
How is it that the history of publication is just as fascinating as the stories they published?! Idk maybe humans are just awesome lol
You kinda got me back into reading again 😅 I hope so much to visit your shop in the future!! (With a pocket full of cash, of course lol)
Brilliant book!
Your videos always make me so happy 😊 I love your enthusiasm for literature 🙏
Nice
I like books
Nearly 70, and still get emotional with this work, that I grew up with.
There are few things on this earth that I would pay any amount of money to acquire A signed copy of one of the Chronicles of Narnia books (or any book by CS Lewis for that matter) is one of them
Because for centuries, the peacock was a symbol for pride.
the lion is Jesus Christ..After that realization it's not really re-readable like Tolkien's LOTR is or any truly masterpieces are. A good book though
I love it when bewwks have droarrings 💜
I have a rare edition of all of her novels
Its a truly divine cover ❤❤
It’s fascinating how one thing led to another and soon she found her true calling. Great story and informative video!
I never knew this!! What a sweet story!
Oh my this is sbsolutely gorgeous!
Nice touch using the music from the 1994 adaptation. By far the most accurate book-to-screen adaptation ever made of any book. That fact that they outright re-created the illustrations in animation form shows how closely they wanted to follow the stories.
This is a core memory unlocked on my part. Wish I still had either the book or the tape.
I love that illustrator is mentioned on the cover;)
what a treasure📖
Dude we should reprint it that’s gorgeous!
It's always wild hearing about comparisons between the value of money back in the day and nowadays. With 240 pence per pound at the time, the 1 pence as the smallest unit of currency would have been £0.70 in modern money. It's kind of shocking how much value smaller currency units used to have compared to now, where they often come down to little more than a rounding error.
I don’t know what you’re talking about, that’s just an illustration of Mr. Darcy
Huh
what
After Huh What Lemme put WTF
Thank you. What an interesting video, i knew that Beatrix potters illustrations were used for greetings cards but i didn't know that they were also accompanied by verse.
Got it. "Bookshop," "surrounded."
😍😍😍😍
wasnt there a movie about ferdinand?
The Hobbit, no contest.
It was called communist _and_ fascist propaganda? That's hilarious and sad at the same time, because it was neither.
I grew up loving this book
Democrats also hate peace. Ask them to talk to Republicans and you'll see.
Where is this Aladin's Cave
I’m guessing this is what the movie of the same name is based on?
Disney made a movie on this
FDR was a war mongering elitist. All those "heros" you mentioned. Go read some real history. H G Wells, Platinum spoon nwo pushing eugenicist. And the anti-heros praised by the papists. Stalin kissing the hand of the Pope. I threw up at the sight of that! Chick stop proliferating your shallow and ignorant partyism. It's a 69 and they hate your guts. Ephesians 12-6.✝️
The hobbit, the lord of the rings, and christmas carol
It’s a three hundred year old book, should you really be touching it with your bare hands!?
