No matter where you are the FIRST THING IS CHILD SAFETY. WE CAN'T BE CARRIED AWAY THAT WE DON'T KNOW WHERE OUR CHILDREN ARE. REMEMBER IF WE HAVE A LITTLE ONE AT HOME THAT LIKES TO GET INTO THINGS. WHEN GOING OUT KEEP A EYE ON OR GET AN ATTACHMENT FOR THAT CHILD. NO PLACE IS REALLY CHILD PROTECTION WERE THE PROTECTION.

Welp after what happened it's not as impressive anymore. I don't get the rotating part… You don't get to see anything properly because it goes out of your vision. And it kills kids too.

Reminds me of a zoo that designed its gorilla enclosure so that a small child could fit underneath the railing and then drop down into the enclosure. Afterward half the people wanted to blame the parents.
1 kid out of the 5 million that had been there. Yes it was the parents fault.
An inner glass that rotates with the seating preventing anyone from touching the outer glass wall and supports would have easily prevented this tradgedy. It would have added about 350 to 600 grand to the design and building cost of the restaurant.

Wait, why did they design it to have an internal rotating platform instead of just having the whole thing rotate around a central hub. That was moderately dumb. Also, were the tables bolted down?? Crazy heavy? Why? I don't put a lot of blame on the restaurant, really more on the architects, but all I can really really think is how slowly that's rotating and no one noticed that that kid was about to be crushed for HOW LONG?
Its not a company’s fault you can’t pay attention to your child at a restaurant. You either walk them to the bathroom or you make sure they stay seated. Its not a playground it’s a restaurant.
Just because a kid wasn't at his table doesn't mean he was out of control.

Nothing is child-proof and before prople start ranting about keeping an eye on your kids - no parent is perfect and neither is any man-made design. Tragic? Yes. Evitable? Maybe. Anything other than terrible luck? Absolutely not.

If the child's head was crushed between the table and the pillar, then they could have made the windows flush with the pillars, so there would be no space get crushed in. To pretend that there is no child proofing is ridiculous. Imaging the roof of a tall building. You could have walls too high to climb or not. That's a safety measure that works. It's demonstrable.

amanda baranou Is this restaurant seriously closing because of those irresponsible parents? I am a bit sickend to be honest. This city should fight to keep it open, they shouldn't pay that price for the terrible mistake by the childs parents.
That being said, what a fucking COMPLETE engineering failure. I mean, how to you not take crushing into account when there is a rotating platform involved. It's happened many times before, I'm amazed these idiots didn't think that scenario through. Half-witted architects... Very tragic
bantom360 Most people know to stay away from the edge of the rotation assembly, just Luke most people know to stay away from an intersection or to stay away from fire. Its no different that other obvious dangers. But kids don't know that, its the parents job to keep them away from hazards. You can blame a side walk not having a fence up because a child runs into the road. It is always the parent fault.

I understand your point, and the parents PROBABLY do not deserve parents of the year award, but it isn't hard for me to imagine my 5 year old curious self exploring a massive rotating mechanism. But when you design something that is completely accessible for kids (or adults) to be potentially crushed, I gotta say that's fairly bone-headed. The FIRST thing you should take into account when building something like this is guest safety. Common sense or not, when building something like that, you ALWAYS take into account the safety of the participants first, and any possible hazard or dangerous scenario. Always anticipate the worst. It's incredibly standard Risk Management protocol. Therefore, this is a complete and utter failure of the architects of the restaurant. Regrettable design indeed. I think of escalators, elevators, and roller-coasters when I think of this (all of which have over time succeeded in ensuring the safety of guests). Sidewalks and intersections don't really have any comparison with what this is, for a sidewalk is not a mechanical rotating piece of ground, and intersections only present the danger of other people when not paying attention.
The restaurant is shittily designed, period, there where a number of design choices that would've made this impossible to happen, things like a larger margin of non rotating floor near the edge, or even something as simple as having lighter tables. Even from a different perspective it is the design firm's responsibility to remove liabilities to their clients, this is a complete failure to do that.
