why do we place the stitch marker in the second stitch of the round sometimes, but other times we don’t? is there a purpose for this?

Help!! 😂 All the stipes in the pattern say "continue basic increase on p 3" at the end, but I don't know where to continue in the basic increase instructions. Do I begin at round 2 by sc2 into each st and continue with the pattern until I have enough to match the cap? ❤ (rn I'm on st 18 in the thick stipe pattern)😅

Why put the stitch marker in the second stitch in the round and not the first

Slipknot Chain 10 8sc. In the last chain: 3s Turn. Sc into other side of foundation chain: make 7sc. Chain 1 Turn Work in flo: 7 sc Chain1 Turn Sc in flo Center stich: both loops, sc 3
