It may be I'm just getting old but I far prefer his singing at this time (& of course in Rainbow & Sabbath & first few solo albums) to a lot of his later solo material. His natural voice is sooooo good, better than the growly later version. Just magic!

Mit ELF bewegte sich Dio gesanglich zwischen Heavy Blues Rock und progressive Rock...Das ist Ihm nie wieder in so genialer Art gelungen....und so eine Band wie ELF hat es lange nicht gegeben. R I P Dear DIO... Dr.Ilja Lasaroff.Bulgarien.

The recording quality on this record is really poor but listen closely to the the drummer. He was the late Gary Driscol and at the time he was one of the best Rock drummers I ever heard. Gary had the fastest foot I had ever heard. Faster than Bonham or anyone else He could do separated 16th notes like it was nothing. You can hear him doing quads on this recording if you listen. An incredible drummer.

I only got to see him live once, in 2000 on the Magica tour. He was incredible and the nicest guy. He talked to me and some friends for about 10 minutes and signed all our CD's!

If you actually realize, Dio has a thing for “rainbows” and “sailing”. 🌈⛵️ Check out the lyrics of this song and the lyrics in Rainbow from this band Elf. Check out the lyrics of Stargazer and Long Live Rock N Roll from the band Rainbow. Check out the lyrics of The Sign Of The Southern Cross from the band Black Sabbath. Check out the lyrics of sooo many Dio songs from his band Dio. 😂

Some folks have faith.. RJD didn't like "religion" He never said he was atheistic.. The way he described Christianity was very obviously from the POV of a man who's childhood was spent in parochial school. Sadly many have fallen away as a result of that..He also wrote spiritual lyrics in his life.. "Mask of the Great Deceiver" on Kerry Livgren's solo album is but one example. Over the years he seems to have struggled with belief. Why not just enjoy the music?
