I am a white woman and I can't even imagine how heartbroken those women must have been. It is as if they were animals that must breed for their owners. Sadly human trafficking is still a reality.

The term mother f'er came from the fact that men would be forced to breed with women who had bags over their heads, it could have been a sister or a mother they did not know. Buck naked was what owners did to male slaves to break them. Families were forced to watch the men in their life be emasculated. They say why do blacks kill one another, think about it. Incest creates all kinds of problems. We need to look at history and not destroy it, lest we keep repeating the cycle. We in USA no matter the color we are the only nation that has had the experience to know freedom and with politics now, we are all becoming slaves. Freedom is appreciated when you fight for it. it is always taken for granted until you lose it. Everything this country did to brown and black skin they are now doing it to all Americans. you are learning what it is to fight for equality and liberties. Some stood by and smiled while this was happening and now no one can stand for you. ironic. there was never racism in this country it has always been about elitism. reality is just an illusion. It is not funny finding out that your protector was who you needed to be protected from.

I know the origin of my paternal family as far back as the early 1860's. And trust me it is not pretty. My paternal grandma raised me. She was born of mixed race at a time when that was extremely frowned upon. But I tell you she was the strongest black woman I ever knew. She took me home from the hospital and that's where I stayed. Physically I took more features after my grandmother as oppose to either of my parents. Born with blue eyes and red hair. As I got older my eyes turned green and my hair turned to more of a reddish blonde. People called me cat eyes and dirty red and I hated it. One day a white man asked my granny if she wanted to sell me to the damn circus. I never saw her so mad in my whole life. But she put him in his place . Our families have been through a lot in this country and we still here. We still survived the slave trade. We maybe hated and demonized but God chose US for a reason. We can NEVER give up!

Think about it. They made money off of us in so many ways from Slavery to companies that sold the Slave clothes to the Insurance Companies that insured slaves to the Brothels, etc. This is the way of life that the South fought so hard to preserve.

I was so happy to find this article on you, Dasia! I wanted to comment on your success on the first video that I saw about you, interviewing you and your science teacher for PBS, but the comments were turned off, sadly. You're such an inspiration. Overcoming monumental hurdles on a daily basis to accomplish your goals in science and beyond. I believe all things are possible for you and hope that you continue to reach for the stars. Your current work with sutures is life changing and can't wait for them to be available to all who need them. I firmly believe you will attain all of your goals. I've endured post op infection myself while dealing with a highly celebrated specialty group to perform a necessary surgical procedure. It took 4 more surgeries, during more than a year of treatment with very strong antibiotics and steroids, with open incisions, packing, cleaning, and bandages to attempt to heal from these issues. So I can fully understand the need for your sutures and the saving grace they would be. I wish you the very best and continued success and happiness on your journey. Congratulations on your accomplishments thus far. 👏🏻 🎉
