DOES THE FUJIFILM GFX 100S MAKE ME WANT TO REPLACE MY FILM CAMERAS??
Is the Fuji film GFX 100s worth the hype? Does it compare to film or give a similar experience? I put it to the test along with my Mamiya 67 in an in studio fashion editorial project I’m calling “Africa’s Daughter.” And even more excited to have had the support of KEH!

They used a Canon 8800F
That’s actually pretty crazy.. my local camera store here in SLC UT will develop, scan and upload for $12/roll. And I thought THAT was pricey lol. Guess I’ll quit complaining.
"Don't do gang sign in my video!" aahahahahhah
I prefer the unedited pictures.. the edit detracted from the images
These images are so beautiful! Great job!
When cheaper film is 15 dollars a roll….😢
Ah yes my left ear loved this too
Positive thoughts It’s a journey or a marathon Some of the images where amazing try shooting wider
I like your camera, I had the same one in the late 80s when I photographed the Queen band.
Wow, I am really glad I watched your video. I was interested in your review of the films but really appreciate your talent. What a great location and creative use of it and your model. This old man learned something today just by watching what you do.
Nice head shots! T max is well known for it’s fine grain (all the films you chose are excellent for that) but also it’s known for nice contrast. The results you got regarding the contrast and grain is surprising and I would lean towards an issue with the developer. Another post also spoke to the developer, different films have a best buddy developer wise, if not paired with the right one you’ll not get the best result. With the cost of having someone else develop film for you, you could do it yourself (it’s not very hard). The savings will quickly recoup the costs of buying the equipment and you’ll be able to tailor the process to get the best quality.
I actually really liked this video and the photos. I thought the photos were really beautiful. ✨👍🏼
Broken mirror stop - the mirror will sit lower in the camera and you'll be focusing on a make believe focus area, but the image won't fall onto your film the same way. You can find 3D printed replacements online. :)
T-Max behaves like it's really an 80 speed film that is only called 100 for marketing purposes. It benefits from a bit more light. Personally I prefer the Delta for people, but prefer FP4 for landscape. T-Max is definitely in last place by a long margin.
Like pic whit ligth, abaut the flash his a so hard portrait.
what camera was used for the video intro ? the gfx ? 0:00
This style of presentation is so inspiring to me, versus you standing in a studio with lights "telling" me what you did...you're out in the field showing it as it's happening! Awesome! Beautiful Fujifilm photo!
Thank you for this!!! I am considering buying a used one. 🙌🏾
Great compositions and model. But the whole point of film photography is lost when you start using Photoshop and Lightroom. It's easier to do it on a digital camera then.
What is the thingy you use to shoot you Olympus in the manual mode and control the shutter speed ? Super inspiring video by the way ! Wow :)
"I wonder if this will look like art or trash" and then flash a goddamn painting on screen. Perfect framing, wonderful colors in editing
I love that you didn't have to do too much editing with this film stock to get the final result you wanted! Even though I'm watching this two years later I hope there's still some of this film for me to try.. I'm going to look into that now.. love your videos!
subscribing because I'm black, I love film, love that you have locs, your channel is awesome, and because I'm not racist haha
There's more nuances than just different films; if you had sent all those films in the lab for developing, most likely they used a single developer for all of them, if not required differently. Colour is set to C-41, or E6 or whatever. But in the world of black and white films, each film will give different results in different developer from different manufacturers, on top of different processing. Now I'm not defending Tmax, course I'm using Ilford Delta films since their inception, but usually Tmax films will give best results in Kodak developers, and maybe the best one for it is Tmax developer. Just saying...
“The grain was a little grainy” best description! Great video!
Very nice video. Thank you. RS. Canada
You’re so dope.
id love to work with you.. im in Fort Worth
I tried shooting with the UltraMax during the last few days, I have just a shot left before sending my film roll to get developed. I heard in some video here that photos are a little more vivid on colors and details if you overexpose the film a little bit, so I gave it a try. I hope they will turn out fine
Always happy to see genuine joy!
Im surprised by this, am I wrong in thinking the autofocus is still using contrast detect? I guess that works in a studio or for landscapes but not very applicable in a lot of situations.
The 100s and other 100 models are phase detect, 50 models are contrast based.
I follow almost all Jasons recommendations and or influences, he has pretty phenomenal taste. Can’t wait to check out his video, and your channel!
I love the close up head shots, especially with the Fuji.
1000 shutter speed f16??? With flash???? 😮😮😮 interesting. Is that a good idea... knowing the shutter stops around 250? Jesus I'm thinking hard right now
….no idea if it was a good idea. I definitely freaked out doing it! It worked tho 😵💫
I've shot a lot of T-Max and your results seem way off. Either processing by the lab was wrong or you somehow underexposed the film.
Looking back, it definitely feels like i underexposed the film
Best wishes on your journey. From an old white guy.
Very nicee
Ironically, ACROS was for many years, the underdog in Mexico scene, here it was around 30-40% cheaper than Delta and TMax. Then, was the vanishing of Fuji products and the hype of it's renaissance...
Really enjoyed watching your process and the story behind the images. Dope video!
Thanks for watching! 🖤
First, I tend to shoot at one to two thirds stop over box. 100 speed film at 80 and that moves the shsdows up the curve off the flatter toe for more contrast in the shadows. It also gives me room to darken shadows to taste that doesn't muddy shadows like trying to lighten them. I develop normally except I shorten development about 10% which pulls down the highlights protecting the highlights from the 80 iso over exposure and darkening the highlights slightly. This gives me detail in the highlights that I can brighten and still have detail. In post, after working black and white point, can work the rest of the contrast curve to taste. It takes longer to write this than to do it. That gives me the best possible negative to work with. Kind of the film version of in digital using my meter calibrated to my camera to move the highlights exactly just below clipping so detail in highlights and best possible shadows.
You probably got a bad copy of this lens. I have one and it’s spectacularly amazing
great video !!!! what's ne name of your camera ?
Thank you! I’m using a Pentax ME super
I love watching your process. Really great video!
The shot at 9:13 is caaaaaaaaandy. Inspirational!
Omg you worked with Kayra!! I’m shooting w/ her soon ✨
