White do a good job keeping black at bay until g4? (Rc3 maybe?). As for the opening, well, in 3+2 you do not have so much time to refute a thing like 1...h5!? against a top-level GM. Yo will have to close your opening book and open your position analysis book instead, and play!

I think there is a logical reason for choosing an unusual opening. His opponent may be a far weaker player, but he might know lots of opening theory, and is possibly capable of steering the course to a draw, even if his playing strength is far below Magnus’. For the opponent a draw is a victory. Magnus has to win, therefore he chooses an opening that requires playing skills. Just a guess.
@@pimogens222-- All of you are missing the real reason. Magnus has been mixing up his opening moves for awhile now. It's part of a long term strategy for tournament play. It's more difficult to computer analyze an opponent when making non-standard opening moves.
I the day and age of Video why do they still write their moves down?
Not all tournaments have the latest equipment and cameras to record moves. They need to write the moves to preserve the games for replication and study. And tradition.
