I got a question to ask
you just know the crew was pissed
Probably more scared than anything. It's a bad sign when the auto brakes apply.. It's horrifying when you look in the mirror watching the remaining train coming at you
@@Mrjohndoe69 yeah but i'd imagine after the dust settled they were like "of course this had to happen to us" and all that
@@Nthuziast Yeah your right about that. that's not something train crews have to normally deal with. being forced to take a drug test afterwards doesn't help
I think Before the First Car Derailed The Other Cars Were Derailed by the Tornado The First car Derailed because of the Weight
All the cars were empty and derailed by the tornado
@@cdavid8139 Based on the way those cars were dragging tells me they were probably loaded
OH MY GOD 😮
Train: OHH MY CARS IM GONNA GET CRAPPED!
That fell off because of bad tracks. Didn’t see a tornado.
Look again. This was a rain wrapped tornado that blew over empty cars
Can you point out the bad track Mr keyboard track inspector? I can point out the tornado impact at 1:08.. followed by an automatic air brake application at 1:10. so try to become familiar with these things before regurgitating bullsh%t
Yo guys is it me or is the tanker right over there? *2 secs later* HOLY SH** ITS COMING FU**
Luckily the crew was in the lead engine
There goes 56m$
I remember seeing a news report once year, a E.F 5 picked up tanker trucks & rail cars, tossed Them several mettres like tonka toys.
When was this? Because the EF4 from the quad state super cell hit a parked train and slung rail cars several 100 feet. it derailed loaded LPG tank cars and launched a hopper car loaded with 120 tonnes that landed on a home
@@Mrjohndoe69 this was reported in 2005, don't remember what news station. To long ago.
@@richardst-laurent6660 Sounds like the tornado that hit grand Island Nebraska in late 05.. those cars literally went flying
@@Mrjohndoe69 , i think it was not certain, been a while, i remember it was a total mess on it's path of destruction
@@richardst-laurent6660 In 2013 during my first year as an engineer our empty coal train was hit by a huge tornado. luckily we were parked but it tossed and rolled 67 of the 120 cars 300 yards from the tracks. they are aluminum and weigh less than an 18 wheeler. destroyed the tracks as well
It's been awhile since I last saw this but I worked with the conductor Leo Ramirez and engineer Billy P. I think I joined the railroad a little before this. My respect for all the true Rail still running!
I hope the tanker car is okay 👍
Holy pucker factor!! Not sure if I'd soil my shorts, or not able to go for a week.
"Finger of God" *Drops utensils*
That s not good i m glad i v e never actually seen anything like that
I seem to recall, a few years back, several railroads saying that they were establishing severe weather alert programs in their dispatch centers. The idea was the programs could alert dispatchers to severe weather alerts affecting locations along their lines so they could stop trains from entering the area until the alert was over, or make crews in the area aware of the alert so they could watch for activity and, maybe, take action to possibly avoid severe weather. From the number of trains that have been affected by severe weather, this year, what's happened to those programs? Did they get cut because Wall Street idiots say they cost too much? 😢
The 'Wall Street" investors are billionaires because of their intelligence. Not because of a lack of information or understanding. Railroad dispatch centers for Class I railroads are equipped with severe weather alert systems and have been. But as with any weather related system none of them are perfect.
Dang how is the tornado powerful enough to derail a train
freight cars arent that heavy enough wind can easliy push them over plus they arent held onto the tracks like a rollercoaster is

1:10 the grain car was like see u later and the white oil car was like OH DAM WHY HE DERAILED!? Oil car hits grain car like i decide to hurt u grain car then red box car was like I’ma crawl on the cars on the side
That could've been an explosion right?

@made-in-the80s alright good peoples taking me to class notes are definitely stored!✌🏽
That poor engineer knew the tornado was coming. They say tornadoes sound like trains. (0:14, 0:23)
On your very old siren video, I don't know if you still use this channel, but Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant actually shut down., and honestly they could have added the test message to the siren, which they should have done.
Holy bucket
The train: Casually going down the tracks. The tornado: I’m about to end this mans whole career. Also the tornado: Crashes the train. The trains freight cars: Already derailed. The train when it stops: Phew. That was a close one. The tanker car with the rest of the freight cars: I wOkE uP iN a NeW bUgAtTi! Also the tanker: Pwns the engines. After the wreckage: *TF2 your team looses music intensifies*
EF5’s have not only derailed entire trains but thrown them many yards from the tracks. We are talking about something with forces that are difficult to comprehend. Wind power increases by the cube of wind speed. So an EF4/5 tornado can be many many many times stronger and more devastating than a EF1/2 or even 3. A tornado with 200 mph winds is 8x more powerful than one with 100 mph winds as an example. The Bridge Creek-Moore 1999 tornado had estimated wind speeds of 300mph. That’s 27x more powerful than a low end EF2. This tornado was likely an EF1-2 and it still did this. Nature is crazy!
At first I thought this was a recent post, but it didn’t take long correct myself. Still good.
Bro said NO EXPLOSIONS ALOUD IN A TORNADO THAT WOULD CREATE A FIRE TORNADO! Jk
Uncool Train Hits By Tornado
I remember that day well, it had gone from very cold to very warm inside of a day in the middle of winter...the kind of day where you know the weather is going to be real bad. A supercell storm blew up north of about Freeport that afternoon, and headed east along the Illinois-Wisconsin line. I was working in downtown Chicago, and the sky along the northern horizon was a mass of black clouds. While heading home the crew reported that all trains were stopping at either Crystal Lake or Woodstock, a tornado had hit a freight train near Harvard.
I worked for the Denver & Rio Grande Western RR back in the early 70's. Trains coming out of Denver heading west on the mainline soon encounter the Rocky Mountains at a place called Rocky Flats. The trains must start trekking their way up a steep winding grade and a big curve known as the Big 10 curve. The Big 10 curve is right at the mouth of Coal Creek Canyon which at times is one of the windiest places in America. The cold air on the high peaks sinks and that air comes flowing down those canyons and creates hurricane force 100 mph + winds. Over the years the D&RGW had many derailments at the Big 10 curve. The wind would blow the trains over and cause massive derailments..including the engines. Since the D&RGW was a mountain RR they always had at least 4 headend engines and often times 2 helper engines at the back to push them up the grade. I went to many of those wrecks during my years. I was always mesmerized by the wreckage at a derailment. It's truly something you have to see to believe. Wind is extremely powerful. 🚂
Can you help us understand what we just saw? I was expecting this video to have commentary, and it doesn't. What do you think about this crash? For sure, some of the cars were irreparably damaged, but do you think most of them could have just been put back on the tracks, hooked back up, and sent on their way? I don't think anyone would have been back there, but what about the cargo? Do you think it the type of cargo it carried would have damaged by such a crash, or not? 🤔 Assuming the cargo wasn't eggs or glass , or something fragile.
Second, the wind flows _down_ the Canyon at 100 mph. Darn! Traveling down is easy. I was wondering if there was a way to use that strong of a wind to drive a train _back up_ 😞
@@TheNoiseySpectator Hi Noisy. There is no narration because the camera that is capturing this video is mounted in the windshield of the rear engine that is facing backwards. My guess is this train had 3 engines at the headend and this was the last in that string. They typically always face that rear engine backwards and none of them are ever manned - hence why you hear the crash but don't hear anybody talking (or screaming..lol) High winds or tornados naturally get the lightest boxcars swaying and rocking first until they derail and that sets off a chain reaction which is what you saw here. You'll notice by the time that Grain car right behind the engine goes over the cars behind it have already derailed. Thankfully that Grain car didn't take the engine over with it. Things get really crazy when you see that Tanker heading for the engine. That Tanker was most likely empty but the weight of those cars behind it pushing it is tremendous. Had that been a fully loaded Tanker full of something flammable this could have been a real disaster. Why do I think it was empty? It would have hit the back of that engine where the camera was with MUCH MORE FORCE! YIKES. I'm certain the Engineer and Brakemen in the lead engine could feel what was going on and were petrified at what might have been. I know I would! To answer your question can the derailed box cars be put on the track - the answer is Yes..BUT only if their damage is not so bad that they cannot stay together long enough to be pulled very slowly to the nearest maintenance train yard and undergo extensive repairs. Most people don't know this but the wheels 🚃 and axels on the boxcars (called 'Trucks') are not actually fastened to the box car itself. Sounds crazy I know but you'll just have to trust me. To explain it here is too much but because those Trucks aren't hard fastened to the boxcar is the reason you see train wheels all over the place at a wreck. There were no such cameras like this when I was a Railroader so to actually watch a derailment as it happens is quite fascinating to me. My name is Mike. Thanks for listening friend! 🚂 Take Care! .
Imagine being a train hopper and this happens
When I was little and first saw this, I thought this was CSX (YN2) because of the yellow nose.
So trains can technically tanks a tornado.

the tank car approaching was very ominous

me and a friend had to watch this video in science class and i remember we could NOT stop laughing. Idk if it was just because we were in a silly, goofy mood but the way that one train car just bounced on in there made all the more funny.😂
Let's just be thankful that the tanker car didn't rupture. Ethylene oxide isn't a nice chemical.
Union pacific
I can't even see where the tornado is in this
It is like trying to see the forest among the trees. The view is from inside the tornado before it continued from right to left across the screen. Inside of a small tornado is not as fancy and dramatic as you see in the movies. 🌪️"🙍🏻♂️"
What type of train was it Was it a Union Pacific?
Good reason to have 5 loads on the headend
