Wren Baker should protest only having 4 home league games versus 6 on the road including a Sunday game. Coach Devries referred to Cincinnati as a "protected rivalry" but I've not heard this officially announced. They aren't in football. It will be interesting in the 25-26 season to see if we get 6 home games & if we get to play Cincy 2x.

Maybe this year's team will win 2 in a row and/or win a true road game. Last year's squad achieved a dubious double by doing neither. The 1918 team managed a road win but failed to win 2 in a row. One of Huggins's teams & some of the early squads failed to win a true road game but lat least managed to win 2 in a row.

Did you hear that Daryl Prue contacted WVU about a year ago to express interest in the interim coaching job? I find it disappointing that he didn't even get an interview. Prue has been an assistant coach at 2 different D-1 schools.

My parents took me to Jerry West play in a summer league game which was played on an outdoor court in Kanawha City. I'm guessing it was the summer of 1961 when I was 9 years old. West played for McJunkin Corp. & was the only player on either team to have 2 numbers on his shirt. I suppose it was semi-pro. We sat next to West's wife & after the game West bought me a popsicle.

Not a defensive minded player on the team. That’s overwhelmingly stupid to recruit like that.

Rumor has it that descendants of the 1918 squad are planning a celebration as they will no longer be the only WVU men's team to fail to win 2 in a row.

Continuing my rant about schedules, I think new ACC members Stanford & Cal will get to play Notre Dame & fellow new ACC member SMU twice a year, every year.

Good point about the men & women having 7 schedule conflicts. Shouldn't Wren Baker have protest the ESPN+ start times? Do you think basketball will follow the B12 football matrix times 2? I mean will WVU be limited to playing Cincinnati 6 times in 4 years in basketball? I know you do a basketball podcast but Baker should have protested the football schedule matrix with WVU only playing Cincinnati 3 times in 4 years. Brandon Knapper got blood clots & it was suspected the blood clots were caused by all the air travel.

nice job.... and a nice Job on calling out issues and address these issues to call for a closer look, but I am not in a place to finish your podcast, so I left early ( I am a WVU fan) . I do recommend anyone who has interest in such podcasts to check this podcast out . I have heard alot of things I agree with. Let's GO!!!! Mountaineers!!! Where does WVU go from this season is a real question, that needs to be answered soon....

In recent podcasts you have mentioned that the team has not won 2 games in a row as yet. A hasty check of the archives shows that only the 1918 team failed to win 2 in a row. That squad started & finished the season with wins. One of the 2 midseason wins came over a "normal" school which was very likely a 2 year school. They finished 4-18. The team took a road trip through Pennsylvania & New York, playing & losing 6 games in 6 days.

Talent is there on the players side……not so much on the coaching side.

Here's an idea: Have Butler & Ruoff teach the men how to use the 1-3-1 defense (an innovation of Grafton, WV's, Clair Bee). Unveil in it the B12 tournament when there would be little time for opponents to prepare for it. Put Akok Akok at the point where Ebanks was in 2010 when Huggs used it. Put Battle or the football player at the bottom where Mazzulla played in 2010. Akok has the nimbleness & smarts for this defense. Use in a for a few minutes or longer.

I had the stat tracker for the women's game up on my laptop. I kept peeking at it during the men's game. Cincinnati pulled 4 of their starters with 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter.

This team would be a lot better with some better coaching. We have players but Josh has very limited coaching abilities. Huggs pushed his players hard. Josh doesn’t and we see the results. These boys would be unstoppable with some harder work

How about covering the WVU women?

In the 60's & 70's Fairmont State, with Joe Retton coaching, typically used only 6 or 7 players. They were pretty successful in the NAIA.

Do you think a football player might walk on? I thought Jarret Brown created a lot of buzz when he walked on during the 2008 season. I've heard Aden Tagaloa-Nelson's position coach has been approached about this. Rodney Gallagher might be another possibility.

Since the Italy trip has been postponed a year, will the NCAA allow the next trip to happen a year earlier? I think schoools are allowed a trip every 5 years. If I'm right, will WVU be allowed to do something in 2028 or is the extra year "lost in the ozone"?

The good news is even though Houston is coming in and will be a tough out you have to think BYU UC UCF will be lower competition then what the big 12 has been until they adjust to the league May make the road a little easier.

I took WVU minus the points and the over for $200. I took WVU and the over the game before for $100. My DraftKings account is at 1.1K now. I did hit a small 4 teamer.

I usually like your podcast, but you need to lose the Mr. Frown character.

What if the CEO of Shell oil said that? What if the president of WVU said that? What if the head WVU basketball coach after the 2012-13 season had said that he let the WV fans down, and promised to never have another season like that again? Or, if the WVU basketball HC agreed to pay $40,000 from whatever public account to participate in some post season event of teams that couldn’t qualify for the ncaa and the nit tournaments, and then lose the first game in the tournament of losers? Wouldn’t that coach have been replaced by now, just as any ceo or university president Huggins is begging for pity in these press conferences. Heavy sighs, deflated countenance-HE HAS EVERYTHING. But he should NEVER get our pity. And why seek pity - he won’t be fired. Hey WV fans. Brace yourself. He wants 1000 wins - at this pace of 15 wins a season we have another FIVE years, five more seasons of crocodile tears. At a minimum of five.

What was the first thing Huggins said at this presser? “There are issues that I am not at liberty to talk about?” What?! What is he referring to? NIL? Agreements with recruits for guaranteed playing minutes? Has he lost the players already? Five more years of this people. I am done!

Media, when Huggins whines “what else am I supposed to do?” You say, “retire, step aside, and let someone else try”.

Excuses. Huggins is a scratched CD skipping on the same “I don’t know” what to do about it. Every time. Holy cow! $4.15 million for that? And look, and be objective fans, it’s been this way for a decade plus. Why can’t Huggins be fired? Is it just bc he is from Morgantown? Hey, WVU is a STATE university-not a Morgantown university! He is nothing to me,. Well, yes he is, my state taxes pays that overblown salary!!! And I am a pissed off taxpayer. He doesn’t coach, he doesn’t understand basketball. Seriously. Yes, he finally made it to the HofF, but think about it! He got in bc of longevity. How many times did it take him to be on the ballot? What else has he done? He is not basketball tactician, he can’t can’t handle game time adjustments, he can’t teach fundamentals, he can’t recruit, he can’t plan - watch every team he has put in the floor. Beilein players taught him the 1-3-1 zone D. I don’t blame the players like he does. He isn’t coaching bc he doesn’t know how! That is obvious. Who is ultimately responsible? Harrison? No, but he got fired. Huggins is responsible. He should be fired. He had a top five star recruit in Oscar T. Who would be on this team today, and bc of Huggins insecurities, Oscar left. And what about Cottrell? Huggins has no talent to teach highly talented basketball kids. Look it up! Then Huggins lied about Oscar leaving. How can anyone trust Huggins word over Tschiwie’s? Who is the one with the better character? And this is why Huggins will NOT hire a talented, young, well adjusted, very basketball knowledgeable tactician coach: Huggins is insecure, and he knows he got away with it for decades. Time to go Huggins. You won. Take your prize $ and get out. WVU, for a third of the cost this team can have a REAL head basketball coach.

Anyone notice Wren Baker was at the game on Saturday in Oklahoma? He sat behind Huggins.
