Ansys tutorial - How to calculate the planetary gear ratio using "constrain equation".
Welcome to my next tutorial,
During this movie I would like to show you how to calculate the ratio between rotating input and output shaft of the planetary gear. I will tell you how to perform such analysis using the "constrain equation" option. I will also explain why this method significantly reduces analysis time.
If you have any questions please write them in the comments.

Ansys tutorial - Rotating Helical Gear (contact, meshing, results)
มุมมอง 17K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello, Welcome to my next tutorial, In this video I would like to show you how to prepare model, create mesh and define boundry condition to create helical gear simulation. In this tutorial I made analytical calclulations of bending stresses at the root of the teeth. We could do this by the probe option but I wanted to check stresses at single node and how they change across the simulation. Enj...
Ansys tutorial - How to check force needed to move the mechanism (rigid dynamic, force probe,)
มุมมอง 8K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello Ansys users, In this tutorial I would like to show you how to check force needed to move the mechanism. The simulation was made on the example of the mechanism moved by the pneumatic actuator. I checked what is minimum force needed to move the mechanism so we can choose the actuator with the sufficiently large piston. Enjoy :)
Ansys tutorial - 3D beam results compared with analytical calculations
มุมมอง 1.6K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello everyone, In this tutorial I would like to show you how to solve problem of the simply supported beam in 3D. I show you how to define material properties, forces and boundary conditions. At the end of the video I compared analyctical results of the reaction forces, deflection and maximum stresses with the results given by ANSYS Workbench. Hope you enjoy :)
Ansys Tutorial - simply supported beam (force probe, bending moment, shear force, displacement)
มุมมอง 9K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello everyone, In this tutorial I would like to show you how to calculate reaction forces in supports, analyze bending moment, shear force and maximum deflection of the beam in Ansys Workbench. I have also made some analitical calculations and compared them them with tje results given by Ansys Hope you enjoy :)
Nice, I can finally uninstall my old adams.
Hi,Can you provide some teaching on the geometric processing of this model about these slices?
how did u calculate the force reactions by hand for the 3d model?.
thank you so much, i was struggling a lot with my simulation and with your tutorial i finally finished my simulation
the input is given through the sun, right?
Would be really awesome if you can make a full series on anysis static structural from beginner to advanced
May i ask, what type of the contact you use between the tooth?
Hi, could you please tell me if theres any way to change the contact ratio of the gears in ansys?
Man, this was way better than other simulation content i have seen available on youtube till today. You are just perfect !!!🤩 Can you please suggest me another youtube channel for simulations like your? Like complete simulation, please?
@All about FEA: Hi. I am actually doing a similar thing but with Involute Splined Shaft. But unfortunately the model is not getting solved. So I was wondering if you can share your model. It will help me a lot. Thanks.
Hello, I don't have this model anymore.
@@allaboutfea4790 Hello. Is it possible for you to check my model and help me find out where I am making the mistake? I can share with you my geometry and FEA model over your email id. It will be a great help for me. Thanks in advance.

Could you please help in static structural analysis of planetary gear train in ansys
How do I calculate stress in the gears?
You need to use "static structural" module, you can find a tutorial in my other videos.
I want to find contact stress . But not coming
First in "analysis setting" you must turn on the "contact stress". Then you can extract the contac stresses in the results.
Thanks a lot In this case it is ideal mesh, suppose due to deformation the gears do rotate as much as other gear then we have different rotation Instead of constraining wrt motion, can you constrain it wrt load transfer or can you constrain the gears to transfer motion by really meshing together? this helps in transfering the true motion with the losses then you can understand twhat is the lost motion due to deformation Please let me know how you would do that
Bonsoir Mr. j'ai apprécié votre tuto et j'aimerais échanger avec vous sur le sujet. Merci
I tried this analysis on spur gear. But it shows converge error and solution exit. If you give your mail, I will send my file
sir can you share geometry file
Hello sir , I followed the same steps but I am getting error. An internal solution magnitude limit was exceeded
Excellent video. One question, how you do it using a hypoid and bevel gear?
What do you mean?
@@allaboutfea4790 I'm trying to do a simulation about a bevel and hypoid gear but I don't know which complement should I use and how to do it.
Thanks for the video. How long did the simulation take? what is the ram of the pc? I ask because I am working on a similar simulation and I want to know how feasible it is to give a complete turn of a pair of spur gears with shafts and bearing supports for my pc that is 16 Gb of Ram
It took somewhere around 4 hours on PC with 4Gb of RAM to calculate the analysis.
How to generate Shear Force Diagram(SFD) and Bending Moment Diagram(BMD) in this case?
You can't unfortunately.
@All About FEA please share the geometry file for practicing you can share to this mail Id: sathish07@yahoo.com
How can we determined angular displacements i. e. if one gear is rotated by 1 degree than due to deformation the other gear rotated by greater than 1 degree. Angular deformation = theta2-theta1 where theta1 is input gear rotation angle and theta2 is output gear rotation
thank you sir , can you please put up the file for practicing
Hello, sorry but I don't have the file anymore.
hi i had quick question what meshing method did you use in ansys
I didn't use any mesh method because this is "Rigid Dynamic" module which not calculate stresses or strains. That is why mesh is not needed.
Hi Can we find out mesh stiffness of gear and plot a graph between angle of rotation and mesh stiffness, if yes can you explain the procedure?
How can we determined angular displacements i. e. if one gear is rotated by 1 degree than due to deformation the other gear rotated by greater than 1 degree. Angular deformation = theta2-theta1 where theta1 is input gear rotation angle and theta2 is output gear rotation
Hello, I did the same exercise but with the current ANSYS and I get the following error (see below). It has been reviewed and nothing, do you know what could be done? "a solver pivot warning or error bas been detected in the ROTX degree of freedom of node 1 located in line body. This is usually a result of an ill conditionned metrix possibly due to unreasonable material properties, an under constrained model, or contact related issues. Check result carefully. You may select the offending object and/or geometry via RMB on this warning in the messages window"
Thank you for question, first please check if your Young's modulus setting is correct, maybe you've chosen a GPa instead of a MPa. If this won't help, try to review again a boundry condition. Maybe your coordinate system has different orientation than this on the video.
@@allaboutfea4790 Thank you very much, there I found the error.
@@allaboutfea4790 Hello, I'm sorry to bother you again, but by chance you know if in the example of the video a triangular and / or parabolic distributed load can be calculated in ANSYS by obtaining the force and the shear moment.
thank you!!
Nice
thanks for the video instruction man. this was really useful for me. I have a problem though, I was using the same method for 4 gears and a shaft for 2 step reduction and while doing the mesh, it was only being produced in the contact surfaces? may I know the meshing details. would be a great help, thanks in advance.
That analysis was made in the "rigid dynamic" module which means that there was no need of attaching mesh. I'm doing gear analysis with mesh in another video, you should check it.
Not enough constraints appear to be applied to prevent rigid body motion. This may lead to solution warnings or errors. Check results carefully. Getting this error Please help I imported an IGS file from solidworks And followed all the steps of your video But the gears are moving apart during analysis
It's probably due to incorrect possition of the gears. Try to position the teeths as close as possible and then in contact option try to set "adjust to touch", let me know if it helps :D
Hi All ABout FEA, your videos are excellent! Have you ever thougt of doing more? Like Shaft, Gear, bearing analysis would be awesome!
Oh, thank you very much for your opinion. I'm thinking about new simulation, but don't have much time lately. I was thinkng about worm gear, or car break which heats up due to friction.
@All about fea I was doing same simulation from past 2 months but While simulating for bending stress analysis I was unable to find the bending stress and error occurred . So can you help me !!
Hello, thank you for question, but what error actually occur? Is it something with analysis or maybe you analitycal calculation don't match the FEA analysis?
All About FEA I am not able to get bending stress in ansys
All About FEA Can you help me to solve that ?
@@kishanpatel651 but I still don't know what is your error which makes it impossible to check the bendind stresses. Is your analsis coverge?
Sir can i mail u the my ansys 19.2 file along with the research paper i am referring ?
excellent...
Good demonstration and it was satisfying to see it match so closely with the analytical calculation... But what were those slices... Many people has asked about it... Could you please explain Or share some link for that
The slices was the parts that was made to make a mesh more dense in some parts of the gear.
Hey @AllAboutFea Iam vivek from the previous video comment. Iam trying to get the stresses for the planetary gear system . I followed everything as told in the video. But iam unable to generate the answers. It's been days now, i couldn't solve the issue. send me on the email screenshots from your analysis, I will check what can we do about it. allaboutfea@gmail.com
Can you show the graph of force generated at contact points 2. Instead of moment if we want to apply load on flank (line load udl) can you show in simulation?
Hi, thank you for interest in the movie. According to your question I can't show to the graph or how to apply load on a flank because I don't have this analysis on my PC anymore.
@@allaboutfea4790 not in this simulation...but by taking any other spur gear can you show analysis where a line load acts on flank...at some angle?
@@prof.onkarsalavi7143 to be honest with you the only difference is that you have to add a foce to the flank/face. There are some videos on YT on how to do it.
Very nice analysis.
Thanks for the video. I searched many on google. This video clarified almost all my‰ doubts. Al though i have few questions, can you please help me to understand 1. Al though there is ring gear u havent used it . It was just there as a nominal purpose. U could have given revolute to the ring gear and then made it fixed. Is there any specific reason why you haven't used it ? 2. Is the revolute joint connection to the sun should be ground to sun or should it be body to body ? 3. U haven't gave the constraint equation for all the planet to sun instead u have only given to one . Is there any specific reason why ? Thanks in advance. Video is really great and it helped me to understand . No one had made a video on this problem with clear explanation except you
Hello, I'm very glad that you liked the video/tutorial. According to your questions: 1. There are two types of planetary gears, one with the rotating ring gear (the one you can find in the atomatic trasmission gear in cars) and one with fixed ring. In this tutorial I've decided to show the second one with the fixed ring gear. I haven't given any contraint to this one because it is not moving but you can do it the same as you mentioned. 2. I've made it from the carrier shaft because it was easier for me. That is why the carrier shaft has a body-ground joint, and the sun gear/shaft has a body-body joint. But again as you mentioned much nicer from the engineering side would be body-ground for the sun gear. 3. I've made a the constrain equation for all of the planet gears. I showed only for one of them and the rest was skipped. I'm teeling about it in the 2:34
@@allaboutfea4790 Got it. Now it's clear. And thank you so much for replying back.
@@allaboutfea4790 is there any possibility to find out contact stresses at the tooth surface mesh region. Just trying

@@vivekanandareddymaddela of course, you can check the stresses on any point of analysed object but it has to be meshed. The aim of this analysis was to show the "constrain equation" option that is why the gears wasn't meshed this time. I have another video where gears are meshed and there you can check the stresses at any point.
That is very good demonstration of CE in ansys. How we disable CE in other time step. Suppose we AEE using 15 time step and we need to disable CE in 5th time step. How can we do that
You can use "EKILL" and "EALIVE" option to disable certain CE in certain time step.
Thank you so much. I need such simulation to my diploma.
Super, cieszę się, że mogłem pomóc :D
