What’s so beautiful about Renishaw is its timelessness…..is it 1873, 1934, 1957……..? There isn’t the slickness whatsoever. I see the loving touch all throughout the garden and flower beds. It looks like I did it. It’s a home, and that’s what these piles should be. Who ever chose the music totally gets it. It’s also timeless, and yes…….dreamy and magical. My objection with many English houses is the obsession to paint all woodwork white. It is such a distraction from the stonework which ought to be paramount to the eye. The 3 stone lintels on the second floor look slathered with the stuff. I would remove it over time and apply a warn buff in oil based paint. Latex is horrid for woodwork and stone because it doesn’t breath. It traps the water in. There are also incredible waterproofing’s today that do not show and are wonderful around the copings and parapets…..provided the pointing is thoroughly done. A willow green on all the woodwork would melt all the windows into the stonework. So much could be had here with Samples. White looks like Primer. I see what it takes here, and it is a life of devotion, and it’s full time. You’ll say in the early morning, I will do this or that, and every single task has a satellite of others tasks to be able to accomplish correctly the main task. I take care of 56 acres and a woodpile of a house builded in 1740 in a place that once was England. It is surrounded by farmland. Queen Anne is 7 miles away, and a wonderful bicycle ride. The world needs to return to the Garden more than ever….
