I always feel bad for Aang in this episode. June is a fan favorite side character.

This is an underestimated episode in my opinion. Katara learns waterbending healing, Aang makes Zhou look foolish, Aang take a lesson in personal responsibility. Enjoyed your reactions as always.

I'm excited you got to this point! Believe me, it gets even better in season 2! I remember my first time watching the show with my hubby, and I was halfway interested until we reached this episode. This was the episode that hooked me! Thoroughly enjoyed the review!

Now you can really see the parallel journey these two characters are on, and how intertwined they are Zuko sought out responsibility, while Aang avoided it. Aang learned to accept his mistake, and move on from it. Zuko learned that kindness isn't weakness, but strength Other things to note: You'll notice that only Aang and the elderly airbenders have tattoos. An airbender only gets those tattoos after mastering all the airbending techniques, so Aang mastered airbending by 12. Zuko is a very honorable person, who cares about the wellbeing of others, but his father and his nation's culture has taught him that sort of kindness is a weakness. Fire nation culture revolves around honor through strength, not through humility or kindness. This explains his initial intentions to pursue the avatar instead of keeping the crew safe. But you'll see throughout the series, how much honor Zuko actually has.

This episode and the next are my two favorite episodes from book 1! Glad you enjoyed it. You have a lovely smile and I hope you keep reacting.

The voice of zuko was a break dancer. So the creators included it in Zuko fight scenes.

This episode is widely considered to be the weakest in the series. Not a whole lot of plot or character development (Aang straight up lying doesn't help either, almost a reversion of character) Also, during the time when the show was aired regularly, this episode in particular was played a lot, because it was a very self contained story that could easily be used to fill a 30 minute timeslot. So a lot of the hate is kind of due to it being overplayed. I myself usually skip it in my watch throughs.

Momo was originally supposed to be the reincarnation of Monk Gyatso, but I don't believe that was ever made canon. Not that it makes a whole lot of difference story wise

"Side Mission" more like main plotline lmao

as for what happened with Roku, the previous Avatar, it gets explained in depth in Book 3, so you gotta be patient

You understand why Sokka starts out the way he was. His father, along with all the villages men, is away at war. He feels this sense of duty to be the man of the village, yet has no knowledge of how to actually be that man because he has no role model present. His sexist nature is a result of what a 14 year old boy thinks the roles of a man and woman are.
