What's not reported here is the spectacular errors the police made with the Suzy Lamplugh case. They failed to properly investigate Cannan at the time, failed to investigate his alibi, failed to properly speak to his exes (one of whom turned out to be an important witness to incriminating things he'd said). Det Supt Hackett ordered his officers to try and eliminate Cannan from Suzy's case and believed that stories in the press linking Cannan to Suzy's murder had been planted by Suzy's family. Hackett had fallen out with Suzy's mother.

Best thing to do, in my opinion, is educate children as early as possible about their rights and what is right and wrong behavior re: the adults they come in contact with. Kids MUST be aware of grooming and the subtleties of that practice. We are all our own first line of defense. Just as simple as a policeman visiting my first grade class and speaking to us in simple language. This is what saved me when I was approached by a pedofile years later.

I agree With you. I believe there are certain features we should expect at certain price points. Accurascale and Dapol offer excellent value. Reasonably easy servicing and a quality mechanism are important to me. I will sometimes pay a premium for something that is hard to find. I have just done this and can't wait for it to arrive. Cheers Paul.

The woman who saw him beating and dragging the lady, and hearing the lady plead for her life and simply drove away! She should be prosecuted for aiding and abetting a criminal. She's got some blame in this murder by simply not caring enough to call the police. I hope karma paid her back for her selfish inaction.

In September 2023 Cannan faced a Parole Board interview considering early release from custody. The Board can release him when he is no longer a danger to the female population. On 9 October 2023 his request for early release was rejected by the Parole Board. Cannon was convicted before from 1981 to 1986 for sex offences. He is accused of being the so-called "House-for-Sale rapist". A series of 20 rapes in the West-Midlands in the 1970's until 1980. The perpetrator of these crimes is never been found, but police still believes he is involved. Several women in these houses have been sexually attacked. In July 1986 Suzy Lamplugh, an estate agent, disappeared. She was seen by several witnesses at the same time in the company of Cannan. He was holding a bottle of champagne in his hand. A former girlfriend, Daphne Sargent said she believed Cannan was in a relationship with Lamplugh or was responsible for her disappearance and probable death, by saying: "It has all the hallmarks: right down to the champagne". He is also suspected of the murder of Sandra Court near Bournemouth in 1986, shortly after his release from prison and shortly before the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh. In a car used by Cannan police discovered two hairs. Through DNA police discovered they belonged to Court.....This case was never completely solved. In April 1987 Cannan attacked Julia Holman, a Bristol businesswoman. She fought him off, but later recognised him in a line-up on a police-station. The next day Shirley Banks (28) was abducted and murdered. Cannan was convicted of this crime to three counts of life imprisonment with a minimum term of 35 years.....

I was born in Bristol in 1932. I lived through everything that was shown on this film. My father was one of the BAC workers who was killed in the big Wednesday raid. I was sitting in a shelter at school in Horfield at this time. We then moved down to Camborne Rd, further down Filton Ave, to live with my Grand parents. Here we felt the force of the big Gun on Purdown which was known as Purdown Percy!. After the war we moved to Lockleaze. When my Dad was killed I was 8, my Brother was 2 and my Sister was yet to be born 6 months later!

Thank you so much for your comment! Peace unto you my friend. I'm so sorry your father was killed. I hope your family was able to find peace after this terrible tragedy. I hope humans will be able to FINALLY leave the practice of war behind. Some say "hope" is for children. I don't know? I will continue to hope humans STOP killing each other, especially in war. Sending all the best to from America young man. Cheers! God bless you and thank you again for leaving your comment.

We hear at the beginning of the film how a particular firm were given £300 in the mid-1950's to document 'on camera' the changing Bristol landscapes before, during and after, construction. This is a decade after the end of WW2 and as archives of this period show, colour film came into it's own during the war. The bombing of Pearl Harbour is just one example and captured in colour. So why use a technology that became 'old hat' over a decade earlier, to document and produce films which promote The New Britain? It makes no sense to find camera technology moving up and down a linear timeline - do we ever bring the horse and carriage out of retirement in protest to rising fuel prices? Not many of you reading this would consider buying a black and white TV, over colour. You just wouldn't and that's why this is just as unlikely.

Dashing good looks? I don't think so. I saw part of his datinginterview without knowing who he was and I thought he was arrogant and full of it. I don't think the woman filming his dating video was in danger, but you would think this might make her think of doing at least a cursory background check on her agency's clients, but it didn't get mentioned. Police gave tons of support to Shirley's parents, but left her husband hanging, that was horrible.

I'm not sure society as a whole understood sex offenders and how they operate. You hear of so many cases back then of children being raped and the offender just getting a fine. Shocking to think that there was no such thing as the sex offenders register until the Blair government in the late 90s.

Good Grief! Why do they keep calling him a "Bristol Businessman"? It it because he wore a suit as he walked about? He was an armed robber, lived off his family or girlfriends? At best he was a used car salesman before he was jailed the first time around for the rape at the knitwear store
