I think Mojang has to embrace Minecraft's fantasy, mystical and adventure elements way harder Pretty much most mods add fantasy biomes, mobs, weapons, tools, environments etc We all want a great fantasy adventure Also, they have to update their graphics and sound design, the game just looks "ugly" without shaders, look at how beautiful something like Cube World looks and sounds
There are several things to unpack here. For adding things, they don't want to change Minecraft too much which I understand. If they suddenly add tons of enemies, weapons and tools, it suddenly feels more like an RPG than a creative sandbox game. I can understand wanting a better sound design, and I don't see any problems with it if they ever want to tackle that. The graphics has to stay the same. Changing the graphics would feel like forcing a texture pack on the player base. It would feel like a different game. Also having very simple graphics mean people with not so great PCs can also run the game... even though the game's performance itself isn't the best.

- although i agree with updates being bigger, phantons are annoying because they dont add to the game besides "uuh item that makes new potion and fixes elytra!" while creepers not only have the nostalgia and but origin aspect, the gunpowder loot is actually useful for lots of stuff. If phantons got a new... idk, taming system? like use the chorus fruit to tame a phantom by dropping in the ground at night when they spawn, then they will become friendly after a couple fruits, they can then help you fight mobs at night if you dont have a mob farm and wanna get some additional damage on mobs! also with the taming system, at end game you can just stay awake for as long as you like while building or whatever, drop some chorus fruit on the ground and go with your minecraft life as usual without phantons attacking you because "uh u didnt sleep lul" which gets annoying after loads of times being attacked for not sleeping.
I feel like you brushed over the "fixes elytra" part a little too quickly. That's an important addition... if enchantments like mending was overpowered... Imagine if mending didn't work on elytra? I'm sure people would be happy to hunt phantoms. I kind of do agree on it being kind of limiting that your only options are either sleep or deal with them. If there were some other options that would be great. There could be options like, 1) if you use a firework when phantoms spawn, they get scared of the light and leave you alone for the night. 2) They can give a special property to an already existing food where it makes you feel rested so phantoms are no longer attracted to you, so they don't spawn. Could be a useless food like cookies. At the end of the day, it IS a survival game. Never sleeping should have at least some negative effect and I believe phantoms are the least annoying penalty I can think of.
yall should look up the pretty scary update if yall remember it.... do you think theyre not able to add in 3 new mobs 1 new boss etc in a single update anymore? theyve done it before and there is no excuse for time money anything and that they say they have concern and dont want to overload the game with content smh was that update really so scwary for us to have 3 new mobs to the game?!?!?!?!!? and imagine how HARRdDDDddd it was back then to do that with very less money and barely and workers
