How to remove crank arms from a Bosch eBike motor
มุมมอง 571หลายเดือนก่อน
Some rainy day workshop ramblings. We got some new crank arms from Miranda to fit to our Urban Arrow Family with the Bosch Cargo Line Gen 4 motor. The Bosch Gen 4 has an ISIS spindle, which is also found on Bosch Gen 2, and some Bafang, Specialized, Brose and Yamaha motors (to name a few). The Bosch Gen 3 has a Mini ISIS spindle which I will also cover here. This method is also suitable for squ...

POV Bike Ride - Mordialloc Freeway Trail, Melbourne, Australia

Take a ride in our Urban Arrow cargo bike along the Mordialloc Freeway Trail. We're riding from Dingley Bypass in the north to Springvale Road in the south. Halfway through, we take a detour through Braeside Park - a wonderful park full of wetlands, heathlands and woodlands. There's also a playground if you're ready to take a break with the kids. How to change tyres on an Urban Arrow Family (2023)

We had a really slow puncture and decided it was time to change tyres. 7500km on the Schwalbe Big Ben Plus was a great run but we got a small bit of glass stuck in it. Replacing with the Schwalbe Pick-Up tyres front and rear. Follow along as we go through the process, disconnecting the Enviolo hub and belt drive, replacing the tyres and reinstalling everything. Take a ride in our Urban Arrow cargo bike along part of the Bay Trail. We're riding from Black Rock to Mordialloc on a sunny Monday afternoon. This is one of the most popular cycling and walking trails in Melbourne, it can get extremely busy on weekends in summer. It's approximately 32kms all the way from the Port Melbourne to Mordialloc, and entirely off-road on a concrete shared path. Enjoy! ...

Cargo Bike Tyre Test - Schwalbe vs Maxxis
มุมมอง 6424 หลายเดือนก่อน
We've done 6500km on the Urban Arrow, looking to change to wider tyres for a smoother ride and better cargo capacity. Through our research we found a few options but not many comparisons, so we bought 3 new tyres to test back-to-back. I’m surprised by the price. It’s lower spec’d, less refined, and less capable as the Packster but similarly priced. It seems you’re paying a terrible premium for the folding box. Aluminum is highly recyclable. In the US it’s something like 6 weeks between a can be recycled and it being back on the shelf at the grocery. So paying extra for recycled aluminum seems ridiculous to me.

    • @cargobikecrew
      @cargobikecrew 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@danddietz aluminium by itself is highly recyclable but once you add in impurities like paint, plastic, etc., it becomes a much more intensive (and expensive) process to separate everything. I'm assuming they need a certain grade of material to make the extrusions for the frame, which means they have to be selective on the recycled materials they accept.

    • @danddietz
      @danddietz 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@cargobikecrew Right. But we need aluminum for all sorts of stuff. So use virgin material for stuff like this and use the recycled material for non-structural products (like my can example). We do this with plastics (eg carpet). Isn’t that approach just as environmentally friendly?

    • @cargobikecrew
      @cargobikecrew 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @danddietz I see it as a bit of a gamble for them (given the price) to reduce their manufacturing impact on the environment. I guess it's a step up from "making nothing new ever again is best for the environment".

    Ah, the Riese & Müller Carrie-a true marvel of modern engineering! Who needs durability when you can have an EPP cargo box that doubles as a punching bag for public vandals? And forget about carrying an adult passenger; why would anyone want to use a cargo bike for… well, carrying people? Oh, and elevators? Sure, it’ll fit if you live in a mansion with freight lifts. But hey, it’s all worth it for the eco-friendly vibe and sleek design, right? Priorities, people! 👏

      @@asjeot I do like the concept in Germany (and other places) where the 45km/h speed versions need insurance and a specific moped license. Or even Japan where you can switch between 25km/h eBike for bike trails and eMoped mode if you flip down a numberplate (and have license and insurance).

      @ we need to be careful about bikes and speed. At the moment the restriction is on power at 250 watts. Above that and the class changes to a moped. If it becomes about speed then it will involve every cyclist,even kids riding to school.

    and always use talcum powder or baby powder for a new hose - dust it lightly and spread it over the hose with your hands. Talcum powder is a care product for rubber and makes the hose softer and more supple - in a matter of seconds! Until 20/25 years ago, all hoses were treated with talcum powder at the factory. This was stopped due to cost-cutting measures. The hose also lasts longer.

      Good tip - I've done this in the past. Apparently it helps protect the tube if the tire slips on the rim bead. To be honest, I've been lazy recently and haven't bothered with talc.. No issues so far 🤞
