Kangaroo Pavilion Tutorial
Grasshopper files with plugin available on Patreon Channel

In this video, we setup a grasshopper definition to create a free-form tree canopy. It uses kangaroo goals to derive the optimal form and setup such that it is parametrically scalable.
This video is the first part of a parametric script which covers the generation of pavilion form and rationalization into strips for fabrication. You can access the tutorial along with the complete annotate script from our Patreon page.

During refine mesh and quad mesh steps my mesh isn't triangulating or quads ...it stays the same what should i do
That is strange. Could you share your gh definition to qbricklab@gmail.com?
where is step 4?
this is the most simple and very detailed tutorial. thank you
I'm so glad I found your channel, it has everything I was looking for!!! thanks for uploading this quality content, I'm really obsessed with kangaroo now and your videos will be just so helpful for me thanks once again! please keep uploading content, you are an amazing teacher
I’m glad that you find it helpful.
love it, interesting in this design. how to expent to cut in model. thank you.
Thanks! Here is the tutorial video. Kangaroo Pavilion Tutorial th-cam.com/video/iO_X9A-_8sw/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the lovely video. But what about converting SubD into a mesh. Furthermore, I have experienced an issue where when I perform mesh difference between two meshes I get a mesh intersection instead or in other cases the mesh difference operation is skipped completely resulting in A-B = A. Instead of A-B = A-B. How can I solve this issue if you have any knowledge of it, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Boolean operations in grasshopper are not reliable and prone to failure. Even there, Boolean operations with breps and more successful than Boolean operations in meshes. My suggestion would be to convert mesh into brep for any Boolean operations and then convert back to mesh .
omg i awaited 2years!!! awesome!!
Great
Im so wonder the process!!! if you teach us it will be awesome!! especially the strips!
You can find the grasshopper script here. www.patreon.com/posts/106250139?
could you share the files for weaverbird to copy into grasshopper components folder ? Any other similar to weaverbird ?
can't wait hehe
I'm eagerly looking forward to the next episode. I recently came across your channel and just want to say that you're doing a great job.
Thanks 🙏
tutorial please!
It should be out soon!
@@qbricklab4200 nice thank you !!!
You are great !!!
This series rock bro.
Like this series, thanks bro.
Helpful, bro. Thanks alot.
Ha sido un claro y documentado ejercicio extensible a otras exploraciones geométricas. Muy útil, muchas gracias!
EXCELLENT TUTOURIAL
Excelent! Thank you
excelent tutorial !! Thanks
Amazing! Thanks! =)
Would it be possble to do this with hexagonal cells instead of square? I am having trouble with the anchor inputs.
Yes, it is possible to do this with hexagonal cells. Explaining this over TH-cam comments is tricky.
What is the matrial Type?
PVC sheet - 1mm thick
you're back sir!!!!
Yes sir!!
wow
Hello, do you know if the steps work on Rhino7? I did all the steps and even downloaded the file from Qbrick Lab, but it didn't work; the mesh is not working.
Hi Anees, Please share your rhino + gh file to qbricklab@gmail.com.
what is the plugin
Kangaroo
It helps me a lot,thanks
Very nice! How, can I make multiple of this forms and join them?
Interesting question. Unfortunately I can't answer it in chats, it's too technical.
Would be much easier to use subD surface , so all those points are existing there is no need to create them ?
True. Hope they enhance SubD functionality within grasshopper.
Never mind, found the mesh edit tools. Btw great video!
Hi i dont have the mesh weldvertices tool. Why could it be? Is it a plugin? 14:10
Try installing Mesh+ plugin from food4rhino.com
Great video, one question. how do I limit or adjust the height in the Z direction for the mesh?
Hello! Thanks for the great tutorial! Can I make this simulation with a set of surfaces? Or should I somehow convert them into a mesh and connect them? p.s. and an additional question, can I somehow display the amount of water that is left on the surface? Maybe a color gradient that would display the number of these balls?
Hi. Sorry for the late reply. To use surfaces for simulation, you will have to convert the surfaces into meshes and then connect them to kangaroo. You can display the number of ball collected in one area by using Point Group component. It allows for grouping of points based on distance threshold.
Really very good tutorial, Thanks !....
I don't seem to have "mesh cull unused vertices" under util. It that a plug in?
MeshEdit plugin
Nice Work !
It's good to see you again!! Greetings and thanks
Really Good, Thanks !
The content are so nice. I learned a lot from this lesson. Great work 👌👌👌!
hello for some odd reason when I do the curve closet to point command it turns red and there's an error "1. Data conversion failed from Number to Point" I followed step by step however the points don't show up even if they're right on the circle. HELP PLEASEEE
Hi. Please share your Rhino +gh file to qbricklab@gmail.com and I'll help you out. Do highlight the area where you are facing an issue.
Hey, Can I ask something? I did this pavilion but I would like to add triremesh method on this pavilion. How can I do?
Hey Nur. I think tri-remesh should work for triangulation. Incase it doesn't work, I prefer to use Mesh Machine as second option. If you don't know how to get started, share your Rhino+gh file to qbricklab@gmail.com and I'll help you.
there is one issue when we flip the whole algorithm to make other side, the boxes on top part are colliding, even if we do negative y and changing from -0.5 to 0.5 still in middle there are some cubiods which are still colliding.
Hey Vaibhav! I am aware of the issue you mention. Please share your Rhino+GH file to qbricklab@gmail.com and I'll help you with it.
Thanks! amazing!
Hey, thanks for your video. I applied everything correctly starting from MeshThicken while using existing geometry (mesh from mapbox). However, the spheres pass through the terrain. I have no error messages. Do you have any idea what could have went wrong? ps: here's what the component help says "Computes a new mesh that is a closed solid, provided that the original mesh is offsettable and oriented" ; I have tried manually offsetting the original mesh, it worked and it seems like it's oriented as well.
Hey Amine! Please share your Rhino -Gh file on qbricklab@gmail.com. I will look into it.
Hello, the same thing happened to me. The solution I found was to thicken the mesh, until it can work.
