I am a British alpinist based in Chamonix, France. I spend most my time in the high mountains either ski mountaineering or alpine climbing.
In the past year I have made eight first ascents. One of these was a major mixed route on Trango II (6,327m) called Waa Shakil (6b/M5) in Pakistan. One was a 750m traditional rock climb (7b+, R) called “Mental Breakdown” on the Father Tower in the Mythic Cirque, Greenland. Four were new rock routes on unclimbed spires between 4,500m and 5,100m. And the rest were new lines on previously visited towers.
This winter I have also made three first descents. All of these in the Alps, close to my home, steep and exposed in nature. Stratonsphèrique on the Aiguille d’Argentiere (5.4), North East Ramp on Epaule Sallière (5.3) and Le Z on Grande Fourche (5.3).
My ambition is to inspire women to pursue an interest in alpinism. I want to influence girls to go from indoor climbing to outdoors using the experience gained from my professional climbing career.

Embracing the Grim
This may not be your conventional adventure film, but perhaps we’ve seen enough of those.
Embracing the Grim follows Line van den Berg and I to the ephemeral landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, on an ambitious mixed climbing mission beset by typically fickle weather.
Aleksandra Janiak impressively directed, produced, filmed and edited this short film with an all-female crew. In 2023, Embracing the Grim was the only film to be shown at Kendal Mountain Festival with females only in the closing credits.
Despite the numerous obstacles we encountered, the most unexpected twist was yet to come. Tragically, since filming, Line lost her life in an avalanche in the Swiss Alps. The film was finished in her memory.
At the heart of it all, it was about the three of us.
I wish you were here to finish it with us and see it Line.

For years, Line Van Den Berg was searching for the ‘perfect’ female climbing partner to share her passion for mountains. Then she found me. But was this search really about finding a partner, or was it about finding her own place in society? Line Van Den Berg, 30, tragically died in May 2023 when her and her two climbing partners, Mats Wentholt and Jeroen van Ommen, were descending from 3,754m ...
I made a first descent of Aiguille d'Argentiere, called Stratospherique

Hello I will never forget your joy for life and your great passion for the mountains. I will take you to the mountains in my thoughts. You have opened up people's dreams. Thank you. With alpine greetings Raphael Wellig
rip Line :(
Love it 🥳🤓
Thank you, Fay, for continuing to produce and release this movie! And for giving us another glimpse into the world of Line and yourself 😊
Proper Mountain skiing 🤓 ....understatement 🥳⛷🏔
You guys are insane!! I come home from school and watch these clips and it fills me with excitement for what is out there. You are an inspiration and I hope your stories reach other girls who long for adventure too.
👍👍👏😊
Wonderful! A fantastic way to celebrate and remember Line ❤
That was unexpectedly good film that you made (unexpected because of the low view count). It was a new and deep point of view man and woman stereotypes even in the mountaineering. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for watching it! I love the way Line tells her story in this film. She really makes you as the audience question what society dictates
Fay, Line - thank you so much for that undescribable strength, cheerfulness and beauty! I cannot find words to describe how much you're inspiring me since I discovered you on AlpenFilmFestival last year. It grieves me so much, that I will never have the chance to meet Line 🥀 But her powerful message -which is also yours, Fay, reaches me nevertheless. It encourages me to keep going to become an Alpinist, a female person in the mountains. To believe in myself and go for it! 🙏Again, thank you. You are gorgeous ! ❤🔥
Thank you so much for these compassionate and heart warming words. I hope you have managed to find some female partners too and that you will keep pushing yourself in the mountains 🙏🫶💪💕

Lovely to see that again Fay, thanks. Line was such a vibrant personality.
@@climbermacleod she loved playing around on her axes with you in your boulder room. “Have you tried this Dave?”. She made me so happy that day, telling you about how she was going to write a book and sharing all her plans.

this is absolutely gorgeous 🥲❤️ life is just so very precious .
Thank you Kacey. The most precious things in life are not those you get for money. Line gave me so many precious memories and I will forever be grateful for that.
🥺🥹❤️Thank you girls. Such a nice film. It totally reflects Lines energy.
"Energy will do anything that can be done in the world; and no talents, no circumstances, no opportunities will make a two-legged animal a man without it". Line gave me so much energy in mountaineering. She gave energy to everyone that surrounded her.
beautiful film. raw and pure. Loved it! you rock!
Thank you Bruno, that means a lot to me and Line would have loved this description too.
