Why do you have so many different dogs, that’s illegal in the U.S. your a dog broker, shameful
Jenny I am based in Delhi India and I am dog lover and I don't have to be broker dear..It's shameful to comment on someone without any knowledge or facts..

I appreciate Dr. Becker's love for animals & don't think she has any bad intentions here (having seen that she had the gut to own up to her mistake in the past when advising people about neutering) and while she usually presents the information very professionally, I don't think what she claimed was entirely correct. Yes, each species has their specific nutritional requirements but they need nutrients, not ingredients. Their biological traits in nature aren't very relevant in this case. If cats "have to" eat meat to survive & thrive, then please explain why many cats have been able to thrive on commercial, nutritionally sound vegan pet foods? (I know although this may not be true for all of the cases since it's harder to properly transition cats to vegan diets than dogs). You can explore Professor Andrew Knight's works on this as well. He's one of the leading experts in this field & has already addressed many of the concerns for vegan pet foods in his studies (especially the one in 2016). Also another clue for me why they need nutrients not ingredients like meat is some human patients have to be fed through their veins just essential nutrients (total parenteral nutrition) & they manage to survive for a long time. The thing is whether those nutrients in TPN come from plant-based, meat-based or synthetic sources doesn't matter since they're still the same chemical molecules & work the same (I'm just a layperson with bad English so forgive me if I can't articulate this well & use the correct words to describe it). I haven't seen many info about TPN on animals (since I guess people haven't studied about TPN on animals as much as humans & there are also ethical concerns to do this), but my speculation is that it could be very likely the same with animals - whether the nutrients in TPN for animals are plant-based, animal-based or synthetic doesn't matter, as long as they can meet that species' specific nutritional requirement. And if that's truly the case, it's another piece of evidence to prove that animals need nutrients, not ingredients. More evidence when synthetic taurine in vegan cat foods has been tested to be as bioavailable as taurine derived from animals (something many people have shown concerns about).
Where have you ever heard of a cat thriving on a vegan diet? Cats die without taurine which comes from meat. You put any cat out in the wild and you see if it starts eating mice and squirrels, or if it starts eating strawberries and acorns. You are an absolute idiot for forcing veganism on cats. Veganism is a choice for humans and should not be forced on an animal. Please don't ever own any pets. If you can't bring yourself to feed an animal a species appropriate diet, then do that animal a favor and don't take it home with you.
I missed the "list". Why not name actual brand and give recipes you spoke of at top of list...are we supposed to wing it??
How about home made dog food with added supplement?
Yes but need to know the proportion and breed type...
Amazing, a holistic vet that actually says raw is not ideal for pancreatitis...every TH-cam holistic vet acts as though raw is the panacea for all diseases. I can say first hand some pets do not do well on raw especially ones with pancreatitis.
Didn't find this helpful at all. I have been feeding my dog a homemade diet for 3 years. It is cooked, balanced and healthy. I researched the requirements and it is really not that difficult. He gets supplemental probiotics omega 3 and minerals needed to complete. I am on a budget being a senior and manage this. Some pet foods are insanely expensive and not necessarily better quality so I buy the proteins on sale and add vegetables and eggs to meals. If a person has decided to feed people food they are likely to research this and learn what is needed. To put this at the bottom of your list is unfair and incorrect. Even good quality pet food should be a distant second to proper diet made at home.

Please help. My dog is 120 lbs with EPI (exocrine pancreatic insifficiency) The enzymes, B12, and low fiber food is wrecking my income! I ave been doing this for nearly 4 years. Please help.
This dog food revamp study has been a PITA! I don't know how anyone affords premium whole dog foods kits or products for large dogs, much more if you have several of them. For my 130lb akbash 2 years-old it needs 6 to 8 scoops of regular kibble (Summer vs Winter) and the air-dried or dehydrated foods take nearly the same amount. I'd go bankrupt. It would cost $170 every two weeks for the cheapest formula (Unkibble). Up double that for Sundays and RedBarn dehydrated. So this is what I do: I feed 50% kibble (rotating thru best brands I find), 35% lightly cooked whole chicken, fish, and/or hamburger with its broth and bones. 15% raw veggies/fruits that are blended up and mixed-up into kibble/meats. Every week I give these supplements, three times weekly: green powder with probiotics, cod/cold water fish oil (various brands), and. 2 raw eggs with crushed shells. I don’t give them these on the same days, I spread them out on different days.
I just do 30% kibble (to guarantee minimal balanced nutrition) and the rest is variety of random stuff meant specifically for my dog or something I'm eating. This could be cooked salmon or hamburger to fruits and veggies. My dog will eat veggies when cooked more so when prepared with meat/chicken/fish. After dogs became domesticated, their genes and adapted to be optimized for living with humans and our diet. Dogs did not eat a raw diet 5000-10000 years ago. Lastly, I skip any supplements as I don't think they work. They don't really work in humans and unlikely to work in dogs. It's a waste of time, money and effort.
Which breed of dog do you have?
@joefish4466 good supplements work. The whole foods ones.
@@pawankumarsharma-dognutrit5307 Colorado Mountain Dog, Akbash, and Red Heeler/Great Pyrenees
@@thesetruths1404 Supplements are a scam, for both humans/animals. They aren't regulated. How do you know they are good? No neutral third party tests them so you are trusting their word for it. There is no scientific evidence that it works. The makers of this stuff are getting rich on people's ignorance and their desire to help their pets. Just feed your dog the best quality foods you can afford.
I feel this video instills more fear in feeding raw or healthy food, and is more marketing for the ort good industry. I don't know which foods to buy or what combination of raw foods make a healthy meal, what vitamins to add. This is just as bad as trying to figure out how to fix my own nutrition. Lol

Which exact Wellness cat foods are good for earlier stage cat renal disease ? What levels of phosphorous are acceptable, ? To prevent muscle loss, i heard that apx 10 protien is good, until the kidney disease is stage 4. Then go lower protein.
Examples include Hill's® Prescription Diet® k/d® (both early and late state diets exist), Royal Canin® Renal Support, Purina® ProPlan® Veterinary Diet NF Kidney Function®, and Rayne Clinical Nutrition™ Adult Health-RSS™.
*We need an updated list please, today is 4/3/2024 & many of the once "higher quality" foods are harming dogs & cats to include Merrick, Taste of The Wild, 4Health, etc.*
We use Open Farm Salmon kibble and a lot of toppers.

Her insight into pet nutrient is great.......but after too many serchres of detailed pet food recipes and never found, I've given up on her.
I understand
Great video. Dear Dr. Becker l’m from Thailand if you can see my question and answer it should be great. If I feed my dog kibble with veggies 10 meals per week and BARF 4 meals a week. Is this have any issue with his digestive system or any downside? BC i’m also a doctor and my working schedule sometimes unpredictable.
Depends
A bit confused about how she talks about them being carnivores but then when it comes to home meal prep she talks about incorporating fruits and veggies
Well...we are giving our pets a modern surrounding where we can mix and match the food for optimum health
Wolves eat the intestinal tract of their prey which has plant material in it
The percentages of veggies added to the meat and organs are very small. Dog will naturally eat things like grass even in the wild.
@@pawankumarsharma-dognutrit5307your a dog broker, that’s illegal
Okay so the fruits and veggies, in the wild dog the first thing they eat "alpha male" is the intestines, so the animal they are eating , squirrel, rabbit, deer. They have been eating nuts and berries thus the fruits and veggies. Not alot but some
A waste of my time and boring. Where is the list of foods?

Big words and fear mongering, can you imagine if everybody who adopted a dog from the humane society was compelled to adhere to this regimen.
this is not fear mongering. If you are afraid instead of being educated that is your problem. Feed what you can afford. SHE SAYS THAT. EVen an egg a day is better than nothing. I feed a raw diet and I can't begin to tell you the difference it makes as to long term health
@Bart1009 First I’m not any budget when it comes to my best freind or anything in my life. Like you, I went down the raw diet rathole and eventually my dog wound up at the animal hospital with a bacterial infection in her GI tract. All caused from a raw diet, $1,200 bill. Vets said the raw food was probably fine when left the manufacturer but was improperly stored during transportation. Never again, good luck.
Change companies, they're not all like that. Which one did u use?
Please add me on WhatsApp I can guide you through.. whatsapp chat 09873553859
I don’t think every single meal needs to be balanced. I don’t eat that way. Scavenging animals eat what they can find. Don’t think wolves in Canada in the winter have an abundant supply of fresh veggies. A number of good companies have a vitamin mineral mix from real foods that you add to your pet’s homemade food once a day along with a krill oil capsule. That’s what I do. You didn’t mention this option. This way I can make a raw homemade diet without worrying about the vitamin content.
you are asking the question and answering the question as a no professional. Doesn't sound sound to me
It doesn't. Balance overtime is more important than trying to balance every single meal.
Meal has to be balanced as per breed..
I don't wish to feed raw but I would like to have some recipes for making my own cooked dogfood that actually are good them and provide them with the needed nutrients.
But, if raw is best, wouldn't you want o feed them that? We have found raw organ meat s in one pound packages and we give them one of those with good quality kibble. 1/2 cup Ground flax seed, a raw egg, a blob of yogurt - HAPPY STRONG DOG!!
Me also
I have a six year old sheltie that I see that the following I buy a good ground beef Angus I buy raw turkey I buy beef liver I buy mixed vegetables I buy rice and I cook everything in bone broth are usually spend about a 45 minutes on the cooking process till the meat browns and then I see I also feel about 4 ounces of kibble with this and and water is this a provide a good diet for a Benny who is a Sheltie about six years of age
you are missing many important nutrients. go to TH-cam and youwillfind her beef recipe
Some punctuation would help us figure out what you are saying, as well!
Hi doctor, how long will it take to see decreased itching? I switched my cat's food to freeze dried and give 5mg of zyrtec daily. Thank you!
I started giving my dog raw goat milk for the natural histamine. It's starting to work!
@joanies6778 good to hear; thanks :)
Counting calories is an invention of the food industry, as is the belief that fat makes you fat. That is a lie! Carbohydrates and starches (sugar) make people and animals fat and/or sick!!!
Are you a carnivore what do you eat
What brand name do you recommend?
Sorry, but " can't afford," I'd unacceptable. Give up something we do not need to buy the food your dog or cat needs. Even when I was poor, our 3 children ate well.
Some people really can't spend $5 to $10 for food on their dogs. Your comment is insensitive and ignorant of the realities of life. Lastly, most of the premium quality foods is just junk, greedy corporations using marketing to take advantage of people who love their pets. There is no proof that raw or premium dog foods prolong life or improve health. What does prolong life in dogs is calorie restriction (feed them less food, matched to their ideal body weight).
#1 is home made raw carnivore highh protein , some fat, low carb. #13 is the same. Totally confuing advice
#13 is an UNBALANCED home made diet. When making your own food at home, it is very very important to make sure it is complete & balanced. Otherwise there can be nutritional deficiencies and could potentially cause more problems than the highly processed foods like kibble. For example, it’s recommended to feed bone as part of a raw diet for the calcium. If there is not enough calcium in the diet, it can cause the body to draw the calcium needed from the bones.
Where’s the list?
Listen to what she's saying.
Doesn’t raw meat cause worms?
No raw meat doesn't have worms.
No. In my n=1 experience I've only had worms in my kibble fed dogs. If they're fed a proper diet their stomach acid is strong enough to deal with most infestations.
no!!!
I will reach you how to fight this issue..whatsapp chat @09873553859
how about air dried...like sunday's for dogs
listen to her again and you will see the more it is processed the more chemicals in them
@Fart1009 more processing equals more chemicals makes absolutely no sense.
Are there any studies that show longevity of dogs is increased by feeding a better quality food?
Yes. She has a couple videos about this. ❤
Why are they allowed to sell such terrible food ?
Non regulated. Can do and say as they wish.
Worse than that, they lie about "nutrition" and sell junk food so that animals develop all types of diseases. Same with vaxxes. Healthy animals don't make vet clinics rich.
Capitalism
Because the US food administration sucks.
You are good at giving generalizations in all your food videos. My guess is you are advertising your book by not giving any specifics.
My guess is that you are more suspicious than appreciative of her time, effort & expertise.
she doens't want to poo poo any specific dog food .GET IT!! But she is telling you. I fed a raw diet and it is amazing
No shit, Sherlock. This is a list of the best and worst TYPES of pet food. Not a list of specific brands.
I have dogs. Everything on your list is not affordable for me. I use a good quality kibble for a base with added raw eggs twice a week, sardines once or twice a week, and occasional pumpkin. They refuse vegetables. It's the best I can do.
Sounds excellent. We can only do what our best is. It’s great you have an appreciation for the need of fresh foods and add what you mentioned weekly! I do the same too, and if I can afford better occasionally he will get more. Doing our best is great :) our dogs wouldn’t want us to run our expenses to the ground and have a stressful human to live with in return!
I do the same as well. Boiled eggs twice a week with sardines once a week. I mix some purée baby food (fruit and veggies) with a little water with their kibble (one of their meals) they eat twice a day. Continue to do what you can!
@@lisarickett8023 oh thanks for sharing! May I ask how big your dogs are? I was wondering if my 29lb dog could do with one more egg a week haha. But yes, we do the best we can with what we have (financially, mentally, physically and emotionally), at any given point in time. That’s a well-lived life for us and the dogs :)
Hello! I have two German Shepherds. My girl is small for a Shepherd she barely maintain 60lbs. My boy is right at 70lbs. I use to give the eggs 2 times a week sometimes 3 but since I been doing the purée I scaled back. I would say your furbaby would be good with the 1 or 1 and a half per week.
try chopping spinach up in small pieces and see how that works
I feed my Maggie Raised Rite 100% and she loves each of the meals! Super good for her!😊🐶
Where is the list? She talks about categories.
I was hoping you would weigh in on some of the actual brands like Nom Nom, Farmers Dog, Sundays, Dr Marty's, Stella, Bedlands Ranch - all either freeze dried raw or very slightly cooked frozen in pouches. They are way too expensive to give as full meals but is the investment worth it as a topper to regular dry like Costco's brand seems decent and less expensive than the grocery junk. Can't afford Blue Buffalo and similar which may be hyped up junk. I really would like to hear a critique of brands. Guess that could be tricky though being honest online.
Please don't feed Blue Buffalo, Purina, Rachel Ray, etc. We've had too many babies come in the Vet ER with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and vomiting blood from these food brands. I'll happily call them out! When I first started with animals, and knew virtually nothing, we fed Nutro, which had a first ingredient of real meet and no byproduct. But my pups still had allergy issues. But now we've switched to dry raw. My Old English Bull lived to be 13 years (passed from heart attack), which is kinda lengthy for the breed and our first cat to pass away was also 13 (diabetic ketoacidosis). While we did switch the pups food, we weren't able to switch the cats food right away, which could have cause the diabetes... However, our remaining cat is nearing 14 and so far going strong. Also, please don't over vaccinate. This can be bad.. Hope this helps!
she told you! kibble is not good. Some have more or less of carbs but overall it is not good. Look at the first 5 ingredients and you will see what is in the bag at 98%. at least look for meat words with the word Meal after it. Not corn soy or other cererals
Yes I was a bit disappointed in that I was hoping she could help a person get started w/o being an animal nutritionist. I am also questioning the legume or beans because of lectins, as they only have lectins uncooked.
@@irreverentjules-240 I started feeding my babies Orjen since we can't afford a full raw diet. We do a dry raw diet. Orjen has been amazing. Since we switched from Nutro to Orjen my pitties skin allergies have cleared and my Bullmastiff puppy's icky poops have cleared up too. Its a pretty awesome brand I highly recommend (former Vet Tech who worked with animals in and out of vet hospital settings for over a decade).. Give Orjen a go! I love their ingredients. (Not affiliated in any way).
Costco brand is just as much hyped. It's garbage at the end of the day. Turkey necks, chicken qtrs, pork necks, chicken backs, beef necks, lamb shoulder, sardines, chicken feet, green tripe and organ meats are all worth getting and feeding MY DOG.
How about a video with Dr. Becker detailing of what a homemade raw diet consists? Generalities aren't helpful.
go to you tube and you will find it
The TH-camr Paws of Prey makes excellent raw feeding content for dogs and cats. I would recommend checking out her channel or website.
She has a book which goes into great detail. She gives recipe so you should have no trouble
@@nissan_skyline I actually use her formulator and starter kit as well as her free cheat sheet to build my animal’s meals. I start most new recipes with the starter kit, which gets the balancing close, then I input it into the formulator and add whatever I need to balance it. I also feed Dr. Harvey’s Raw Vibrance according to directions. I swap between a home made PMR breakfast, and a Dr. Harvey’s dinner. It works for me.
Good quality kibble costs the SAME as lots of fresh meats and it doesn't come close to being as beneficial.
Meat is very pricey where I live.
Please reply. I feed 1/3 calories from various kibbles, blanched chicken, fresh cow rib, frozen veggies, freeze-dried liver, real bully stick, cowhide chew, ground sirloin, pre-frozen uncooked whole fish, mixed nut butter, fish oil, tiny minced garlic, tumeric.
NO RAW hyde! it is prewserved with arcenic! spend your money not on Bully sticks and chews go to you tube and see what her recipes are.
you need to have a BALANCED RECIPE OR YOU ARE NOT DOING WELL. tHE RECIPE HAS TO BE BALANCED. OR IT IS MISSING THINGS YOUR DOGS NEED! go to YOU Tube and kind her balanced beef recipe.
Garlic is toxic to dogs and can cause harmful changes in their blood. Do not feed your dog garlic. Also, dogs lack the jaw structure to grind plant matter, so all vegetables should be pureed or steamed for optimal digestion and absorption. Nut butter can be safe for dogs in moderation. So don't give it to them on a regular basis. The high fat content can upset their stomach.
Do not use snacks. Give them food once a day, twice at most.
@@Bart1009 His recipe is balanced, simply by the fact that he's using kibble as a base.
She is not good vet
She the best. Hands down.
So back that up!! Her info is spot on, what is your profession, area of expertise?
She’s a great vet in my area that has an extensive practice.
What commercial pet food company do you troll for?
What is your level of education as a dietician? I understand that vet’s don’t have an extensive education in nutrition and that anyone can take a rather short online course and call themselves a animal dietician and have a You Tube presence.
She has given expert advice and facts! What level of what are you?
@@retro000 I have listened to a doctoral level animal nutritionist and I have to go with what she says and she says Hills, Purina and Royal Canin. I looked up the Pet Nutrition Alliance and saw that many dog food companies did not come up to the qualifications of those companies. In fact, few responded to their questionnaire. It is true that literally anyone can call themselves a pet nutritionist. Thinking that those against kibble may have a point that is not yet proven, I give my dogs a home cooked meal for one of their three meals. I can’t see feeding them raw. Salmonella once made one of my dogs very sick.
There's no such thing as an animal dietician. Dietitians work with people. Dr. Karen Becker is a board certified veterinarian specializing in proactive and preventative medicine.
@@nissan_skyline I should have said nutritionist.
